As a former healthcare clinic manager of 20 years, I can usually tell within minutes whether a…read moreclinic is well run. From my very first call, Gorges Dentistry gave me all the green flags. The staff were genuine, attentive, and professional -- you can feel when a clinic truly values patients, and this one does. My first visit was excellent. The care team listened, took their time, and never made me feel rushed. The atmosphere was modern, clean, and relaxed. Staff encouraged and reinforced positive habits rather than shaming anyone for what they "should" be doing -- a huge difference compared to other places. The first set of x-rays was essentially free (saving me hundreds), which stunned me. Both the dentist and hygienist were thorough, careful, and patient. This is how dentistry should feel: professional, compassionate, and centered on care -- not billing. I highly recommend Gorges Dentistry to anyone in Ithaca looking for quality dental care.

Schedule and bills were Rube Goldbergian. "It's broken" and "Yes, heh-heh, yes" were the responses, respectively, of hygienist Mattie and owner Anthony Raggi to herky-jerky "panoramic X-ray" and my comment "You want my money, don't you?"--as he appeared from the back room to interrupt my starting to ask about confusing paperwork with "Is there a problem?" A re-capped 20-year-old crown ran $1500 taken mid-term. At the close of 3 visits, a recurring "-$138" remainder not refundable was claimed as due to said feckless X-ray.

I was in…read morethere about a year ago for a tooth that the cavity fell out of and wanted a root canal to have a crown put on the tooth. He was all set to do the crown and upon further review he discovered that the tooth was split down through the root and the root canal would not be recommended because the tooth would have to be pulled anyway. So, good on him that he didn't just go ahead and perform the root canal anyway. I would use him again myself without any reservations.

I have known Pete over 20 years as a patient and a friend. Which is why it pains me so to write this review. I feel compelled to warn others regarding Pete Ceravolo and his declining ability. I have had at least four root canals with Pete and it is the experience regarding my last root canal which went horribly wrong. Pete is declining and must have early onset brain problems. He told me my visit would be completed in two visits (after the initial consult) and he "wrapped everything up in one" I asked him about the warning he gave me of the need for two visits and I even paid two visits worth of nitrous. The tooth was not sealed properly and when I returned to him in pain he told me to go see an oral surgeon. I asked him to show me where on the X-rays he said I had a problem and he could not even look at me while he proceeded to lie to my face. I used to hang out with Pete up on his 300 acre farm where he used to boast about his prowess in "Drilling, Filling and Billing!" I should have taken that as a warning sign and stopped using him. He is available at a moments notice which certainly does not speak much of the demand for his services. His office is always empty waiting for his next prey. The employee list on the wall is a decade old and the only thing Pete cares about is money. What a shame.

Got their Late, Handled Paper work finished about 11am had the Interview with Dentist told me what was needed I agreed asked if he could do that day They cheeked and decide if I waited and Hour yes they could I did not have to make another Appointment as I Lived in Oneonta, NY. done as of 2PM, Drove Home ate some Lunch Small Supper at 5PM, Bed at 10PM Took Tylenol Before Bed and again after I Woke up at 6AM, Still No Pain in that Area. the office was clean and well organized!

Here's the email I sent them. I emailed you for my records. Are you ignoring my request?…read more At no point before or during the appointment was I informed that the tooth would require a core buildup and a separate crown costing over $1,300 to complete the treatment. I was told I "needed a root canal," and I agreed under the assumption that the procedure would restore the tooth. I was not told that the tooth would be left structurally weakened and incomplete without an additional procedure at a separate cost. I was informed that the existing crown on the adjacent tooth was at risk of being dislodged during the root canal. That resulted in another $1,313 expense. The entire picture should have been communicated upfront, before I was in the chair, and before I was committed to the procedure. This omission mattered. It affected both my financial planning and my ability to make an informed decision. It also created a situation where the burden of cost and stress did not become clear until it was too late to choose differently. I am not asking for anything. I am stating the impact. They do not feel responsible for their work if they cause damage.
