Empire Fence installed a fence end of August 2025 which looked good until I inspected it closely. The owner ignored my requests to do an on-site inspection to discuss the issues until almost 3 weeks had passed. A combo stain and seal product was applied by Empire which provides color and weather/moisture/UV, etc. protection but Empire did not apply the product to the entire fence thus compromising the color and the weather protection the product provides. The solution offered by the owner was: "tell me what you what done and I'll give you an estimate". And that's a quote. This after paying Empire just under $20,000 for the fence and stain/seal. During the on-site inspection I had to beg him for, the owner was not all open to fixing the issues (not only the poor stain and seal application but also cracks in the wood and gaps in two sections of the fence). The fence does look very nice if you don't look too close however the issues Empire should have addressed the owner refused to take care of. At least not at his cost - he wanted me to fork over more money for Empire's poor workmanship. There were even two handprints on the fence that Owner claimed is typical for a "custom fence"!! Empire is uncommunicative and I recommend staying away from this business. I try to use local businesses when I can relying on their standing by their work. If I could give Empire Fence (Ridgefield, CT) a zero rating I would. If you need a fence....please use anyone else you can find. Run from Empire Fence. Let me give you some perspective. I'm a pretty handy guy and have great respect for people who run their own business and take pride in the quality of their workmanship. I have worked consistently with tradesman in ongoing relationships for 35+ years. I first used Empire Fence in 1999 to install a stockade fence on our property. Over the years there were many repairs. In 2014, we took down the old fence & Empire Fence installed a new mortise & tenon cedar fence. We have since had a number of repairs. So, we have history with this company. They consistently have always had poor customer service and very poor communication skills. Being timely does not even make the list. No respect for the customer. Every time I've had to deal with them you would think they were doing me a favor. For the record, I paid what they asked and did so in a timely manner. So in this case it's not me......It's Empire Fence. I usually don't right bad reviews. In fact, I think this is my first. I usually go out of my way to right good reviews because most of the vendors I've dealt with work hard and take pride in their work. What lead me to this breaking point....... I starting calling and speaking with Empire Fence on 3/14/22 about doing a repair on 4 Posts and 4 Panels that were damaged in a storm. I sent them pictures with a detailed list of what needed to be replaced (parts & labor). Allegedly they came to the property to survey the damage and provide an estimate. What I got as an estimate was 100% inaccurate and short on details. The right job could not be completed based on what was provided. Since then I've spoken with them 11 times over 4 months. I can give you all the details but it's not worth your time. The last time we spoke I even came right out and asked if they did not want the job? Empire Fence consistently wasted my time and energy. Don't let them waste your time. Go where your business is wanted and appreciated. Being a long time customer provided no value to our relationship with Empire Fence. Therefore, Empire Fence has no value to me. read more

So, Nick calls me back finally. I listened to him BUT he refused to listen to me after I listened to his rhetoric. He's upset for the "shit" (as he verbally said to me over the phone) review I posted. I said, "Yes, 'cause you've always been a dick to me." I've been there twice; both times he had an attitude with me. ALL I wanted was a couple of materials cost quotes. The girl who manages the phone knows squat. I hung up the phone. Yes, that was rude but I did not have to listen to his BS & speak in circles with him. He called back, I hung up. He called again, I told him NOT to call again or I will get him for harassment. He called back...SMH. NO, I will not remove my "shit" review. OH, AND he probably ONLY called back because I left him a "shit" review. Hmmm...where shall I start? It taking two months and our fence job is STILL not complete, Nick "the owner" trying to order cheaper material and having to reorder because the cheaper fence did not match the original, making a couple mistakes and not owning up to it and telling us they won't fix it, OR Nick "the owner" calling my husband a "baby" when he simply called to ask when the job will be done and when they can come to fix their mistake? As business owners ourselves, we can't believe how Nick treats his customers!!! RUDE, IRRESPONSIBLE, LACK OF COMMUNICATION...I could go on. read more

These guys are fantastic! I had an older cedar fence that I really did not want to replace and Empire Fence was able to fabricate replacement panels for the ones which were in the worst shape. The only problem I have now is that the panels Empire Fence made are so much nicer than the originals that I need to get them back there to swap out the rest. The price was fair and the service was great. I highly recommend this company. read more

It's hard to imagine that Empire Fence company has remained in business as long as they have given their poor product, inept installation and horrible after-sale customer service. We purchased a six-foot vinyl privacy fence three years ago and have been disappointed since day one. The sales process was actually pleasant and the person who came out to the house was punctual, friendly and knowledgeable. He reviewed our options and helped us make a choice. Strangely, Empire wasn't the cheapest quote we received; I've always believed that when you go with the cheapest quote, you have little leverage post-sale for service. The wheels came off, so to speak, when the installation occurred. We live on a flat, corner lot in a neighborhood that has exceptionally easy access to the job site. There are no plantings and the ground is not rocky so the installation should've gone smoothly. Obviously, Empire Fencing decided to send a team with zero experience in fencing installation as when we returned home after work the day the fence was to be installed, we found work that was amateurish at best. Literally every panel was out of plumb in at least two planes, and none of the panels were level. Additionally the two gates that were installed had holes in them where the installers had mistakenly drilled for the hardware. These holes were filled with white caulk and looked horrible. We called immediately upon returning to find this mess to request that they come out to repair their poor work. Our salesperson told us that "this is to be expected on a vinyl fence and that if we wanted perfection, we should've invested in wood. Meanwhile, during the sales process, we actually opted for the "better" quality vinyl on his suggestion for its durability and aesthetics. Finally they agreed to come out to see why we were upset and eventually sent another team to fix the blatant mistakes. We were appeased but not satisfied. Fast forward to this spring. I had noticed that the fence was sagging and that some of the hardware had broken making on of the gates inoperable. The other gate wouldn't self-close because the panel that held the hinges had sunk with the weight so the fence now got held-up on our lawn. Additionally, the corrective measures they took to plumb the fence after the original Installation had reversed and the gaps between the gate and the fence panels themselves went from 1/2" a the top to over 3" at the bottom making the entire fence look like a disaster. I called Empire and asked if they could send someone out to take a look and make the repairs. To my surprise, one of the salesmen, who I believe is a partner, came that same day as he had business in Westport. He agreed that there were major structural issues and told me that someone would come and fix the fence "in a couple of weeks, when we're in the area again." I didn't ask for this work to be performed for free (though it should be) and would've paid a reasonable fee for said service. Well, it's been over four months and my fence still looks awful. If you're looking for a fence, do yourself a huge favor and look elsewhere, unless, that is, you like poor product, and service. read more

It truly is astonishing that this company is still in business. I wish I had read the reviews before signing a contract with them. The system that we installed with them worked for two days. Of course they had been paid in full for the electronic gate system, but there were problems from the beginning. It did not function from the phone inside and it did not function from the panel outside. For over four months called Nick, the owner, and left messages on his cell phone and at the office. We emailed him for over four months telling him that the system was not working. He has completely ignored all correspondence. We have been nothing but patient, professional and polite. How does he stay in business when he is so unprofessional and rude? We paid for an electronic gate and all we have is some non-functioning hardware. This is the ABSOLUTE WORST company I have ever worked with at any home in four states. STAY AWAY!!!! read more

Empire Fence installed our original white 6 foot picket fence about 15 years ago around almost an acre lot. Fence held up fairly well, but really needed some repairs from various storms and age. We called them few months ago to come and do some repairs. It took them 3 or 4 weeks to come out and even look at the fence, then they said they would have to order new panels. We have 2 dogs, so really wanted the fence repaired quickly - they paid no attention to that request. Furthermore, never even responded back with any kind of time or price estimate, even though they installed the original fence. We went with another, more dependable vendor.
