I've been a customer at this location for years. I've always had good service and happy with my eyewear. Recently , I needed to have a screw tightened on one hinge of the frame. I went to the store and was told I needed an appointment for this. Ok, I get the Covid guidelines but there was no sign on the door stating appointment only. I wasn't there for an exam. Three employees were in front. There may have been others. I was told only an optician could fix the screw and the optician was at lunch. I have been getting eye exams here for many years, but this year the service seems to be much worse. I was able to schedule an exam OK and the exam was the same as before. But I noticed while waiting that they don't answer their phones - they would ring endlessly and no one seemed to care to answer. I needed to get in touch to request a form for DMV - and there was no way to get through to an individual to talk to. I would get "Amelia" but this automated entity could not help - and no one would pick up. They disingenuously said it was due to "a high call volume" ... but based on my experience (noted above) this was just BS. read more

I went to The Vision Works in Pittsford. I arrived at 9:06 my appointment was at 9. I had a hard time finding the place because it's located behind bunch of buildings in there is no street sign. I was told that the "doctor" was very strict and that they had a five-minute window. Since I was 1 minute late I would have to reschedule. Seriously, they really thought I would reschedule after treating me so badly and refusing me service? There was no one else in the store except the two receptionists and supposedly the doctor in the back somewhere. This optometrist is losing an awful lot of business for Empire Visionworks and it should be noted. First impression, poor service. I had a scheduled 9:00AM appointment, walked in at 8:52, was not greeted with any good morning, any how are you, rather two ladies "we're not open yet". If I could give this visit zero stars I certainly would. I scheduled and confirmed my appointment online. I indicated that I wanted an eye exam with glasses and contacts. I arrived on time to my appointment, checked in and was called back. To my surprise my exam was going to be all telehealth, with the exception of the first few screening tests. At no time was it communicated either through my appointment setting or appointment confirmation was it communicated to me that my visit with the doctor would all be via telehealth. This part of my experience was not really negative, just the communication was significantly lacking on this point. The exam went quick, settled on the same contacts and I was escorted back out to the main area and proceeded to pick out my glasses. I picked them out and went up to the front desk to let them know I was ready; at which point I was told there was no optician and that I would need to come back when one would be in store. There wasn't even a doctor in house so the site manager, Samantha, couldn't assist; if there was one on site she could have helped me tie off my glasses purchases. She was helpful in determining how to use my insurance for the most cost effective outcome. I asked when the optician would be back in and I was told the following day and that the best time to arrive would be after 3:30PM. I made arrangements to leave work early the following day to finalize my glasses order and arrived at the store at approximately 4:10pm. There was a woman being helped by the optician and another woman being assisted by one of the techs facilitating exams in the back. I was told by the woman at the front desk (short red hair) that it would be "just a couple of minutes". The woman who was with the optician finished up and then he assisted the woman who was with the tech. I continued to sit there and wait. At 4:57 I still had not been called. In the meantime of waiting a woman came in for a glasses adjustment, a man and his two children came in with the need for some adjustments, and another man came in looking to pick up a pair of glasses. Meanwhile I was JUST SITTING THERE WAITING. I had even inquired as to what was going on and I was told by the other employee at the desk (long hair) that walk ins are taken in between appointments. Seriously?? Now granted, I didn't have an appointment but I had been waiting almost an hour AND I had to return a SECOND day because you didn't have the resources to support my full appointment the day before. So not only did I have to come back the next day, I waited for NOTHING when I did. If your practice is seriously to take walk ins with the limited resources you have (lack of doctors onsite, lack of opticians) then that policy may not be appropriate any longer. Not only was I waiting but there were probably 5 other customers that had walked in and were waiting after me. I was extremely upset not to mention disappointed because I NEEDED new frames AND my Rx has changed. So now I don't have what I need and I will need to go elsewhere and start all over again. I also asked for a manager to call me the next day to discuss. I did have a missed call from them but no message left to let me know they attempted. To me, that's not effort. read more

Avoid this Visionworks location at all costs. The doctor is extremely nice however the front staff is a disorganized disaster. I called to check when I had been in last and after giving my name and phone number, the man I was speaking with told me that he was about to clock out and that someone would call me back. I asked if I'd get a call back the same day and he told me he wasn't sure..... I then pushed him by asking if he could just look my name up on the computer, moments later he found my name and was able to give me the information. Needless to say, I did not schedule my yearly appointment with them. They also ordered the wrong type of contacts for my husband 3 times. Yes, 3 times. Each wrong order taking 1 week minimum to come in, and not calling when they were in. And it gets better, the manager then accused my husband of picking of his contacts then calling and claiming he never got them. The entire situation was unbelievable. read more

I have been a customer at this location for twenty years and my last few visits have been terrible. I ordered glasses over three weeks ago and I never received a call or text that they were completed so I have been calling every day for a week- let the phone ring an hour each time and nobody answers until yesterday a man answered, but he was not local and said he'd find out and call me back. No call back. I went there today, and was treated rudely and waited another half hour to find out the glasses were in fact there. This is the 1st Empire Vision Works eye care center I started using many many moons ago, and still drop in for tune ups when Im in the area. Normally, they would receive 3 stars because, despite the great care I have received by the opticians and ophthalmologists, the customer service doesn't stand up to the Victor location, and the space is always in disarray. I give them a full extra star for the day they helped save what was left of my eye sight 2 years ago. The receptionist was proactive enough to run my symptoms by the ophthalmologist while I was on the phone with her, and they had me drop everything to come in right away for an exam. She wasted no time referring me to a retinal specialist, who then had me scheduled for surgery by the end of the day. I will be forever grateful that they all took me seriously that day. I have since had similar emergencies with my eye health, and it is not always the case! read more

Tried to say I had no insurance, it took me all of 1 minute to pull it up when I called the company, even though she claimed the conpany didn't have me listed. Vision works is the only place my insurance will cover eye exams, contact and glasses so I didn't have a choice but to come here but I don't care because it was a great experience. I have been telling everyone at work to come to this location for their exam. They have great convenient hours so I could go after work and not lose out on any time. When I got there I filled out the patient info and asked how my insurance works - I know I should have known this but I didn't. I was told I could get contact for 6 months covered or glasses with certain co-pays. I wear contacts more so I picked those. Since I could only get either or from the insurance, Vision works offers that if you pick contacts you can get your glasses half off. It was cheaper for me to do that then to use the insurance on the glasses and then get contacts on my own. I was thrilled. The Dr. who did the exam itself was really nice and helpful. My vision had changed a lot in a year so I needed some tips to get through the next couple of weeks with the ability to actually see and she had them. Then I got to try and pick glasses out - This was the hard part. there are so many reasonably priced cute glasses I felt I was going to be there forever. My husband and I were going to dinner in the area after I picked them out so lucky he was there to help me out. I love my glasses and have received a lot of compliments and they weren't too expensive at all. The best part -- My glasses were ready the next morning and my contacts were there the next business day. I am very happy with my experience here and whether or not my insurance allows it I think I will continue to come here. read more

I went there on several occasions because my son broke his glasses. Each time, they helped me without having had an appointment or having called first. They dealt with the insurance directly and I did not have to pay anything. They were extremely busy each time I went but that did not prevent them from helping me out. The employees at this location are incompetent! We have always dealt with Cindy in the past and she was awesome. The front staff is disorganized and unable to correct a problem. I brought my prescription to them and purchased new glasses and frames. When I returned to pick them up two weeks later, I could not read the type. The young woman (No one wears a name tag.) who helped me determined that the lenses were off. Two weeks later, I returned for the newly ground lenses and the male employee handed me the glasses. Once again, the type was blurry. He did not even sit and try to adjust them, but told me to return to my ophthalmologist because the prescription must be wrong. I returned to my doctor and the optometrist in her office and was told the prescription is correct, but the frames (new frames which I have never worn) are bent and askew. I tried to call the Pittsford location and they did not answer the phone. I called 3 times and was put on an automatic hold for over 20 minutes without a response!!!I have already paid for these glasses. I now have an appointment with the Webster location (who picked up the phone immediately) for tomorrow. I hope this is a good omen. I just want to be able to wear and see through the new glasses I ordered and paid for. read more

I had been using Empire Vision for years until I took a detour 3 years ago. Earlier this year I came back, same location but now part of VisionWorks. Total experience was quite different and very frustrating. Optician had difficulty figuring out very complicated 2 for 1 offer vs insurance situation. Glasses were made incorrectly first time, better but not perfect second time (no charge). Nose pad fell off after about 1 month. Reinstalled (no charge). Went in for an adjustment about a month ago; no other customers in store. Had to wait 4-5 minutes while 2 female opticians discussed something (not sure if company business or personal). Finally one of them waited on me. I told her they were slightly loose. She bent the ear pieces rather severely and said they should be fine. They were so tight, red sores developed behind both ears, and the glasses were pulled too close to my face. I went back in a week later, no customers in the store. One optician was sitting in the same spot as last time, going through some paper work. After a 4-5 minute wait (I had just gotten up to leave), the same optician as before came out of the back. I told her I couldn't wear these, and showed her my sunglasses that were in the exact same frame as the regular glasses and fit fine. The difference in angle of the ear pieces between the two was remarkable. She obviously wasn't listening, as she asked if I wanted the sun glasses adjusted also! After reshaping the ear pieces on the regular glasses, she had me put them on, and I said that they seemed a little loose on my nose. She replaced the regular, vinyl nose pads with ones made of silicone. The adjustment was better, I think, although within 24 hours one of the nose pads fell off, requiring yet another frustrating trip to the shop. Bottom line is, the customer service at this store is unacceptable. The people who used to work there were always friendly and professional. No longer. While customers seem to be greeted right away, there is something wrong when they have to wait while the opticians ignore them and sit right there and talk to each other or go through paperwork (that seemed routine, not critical). And the quality of what should be a minor frame adjustment was absymal! I will not be buying any more eyeware from this company. read more
