If you've never tried it, I highly recommend having a night in a deluxe hotel in your own city--splash some cash and act like you're on holiday. Recently, my partner and I did just this at the Emporium Hotel. Ooh la la, what a treat. Choosing the King Suite, we spent 24 hours sprawled out on the King Size bed in fluffy bathrobes, eating from the bar fridge, ordering room service, watching TV, leaving only to swim in the rooftop pool, have a drink at the downstairs cocktail lounge and eat sushi from a nearby Japanese restaurant. Whilst The Emporium meets 5-star standards, the style may not meet everyone's tastes. It's extremely modern in its decor and perhaps a little garishly so. With not too many other places like it in Brisbane, The Emporium has gone out of its way to brand itself with a style that screams wealth. However, for a one-off, luxury experience, I highly recommend it. If staying there is out of your budget, be sure to at least go for a drink in the cocktail bar. They often have a live pianist there playing some jazz and the atmosphere is very romantic. You will feel très sophisticated!

Yeah, huge bathroom with scales, spa bath, separate shower and lots of towels. Oh and a wall mounted makeup mirror.

Went here again and tried an Emporium Suite (the second most expensive suit) instead of a Queen Suite like last time and might I say it's quite the upgrade! Large balcony with lounges and a table, large spa bath and a huge bathroom with plenty of towels! Walk in wardrobe, lots of draws all in the room aka storage space, great selection of snacks from the mini bar -i enjoyed the truffle cookies and so ;) Comfy bathrobe and beautiful bed with soft sheets. Perfect and clean just like last time. Great view over the emporium. The food's great. I had the vegetarian lasagne and chocolate donuts with ice-cream. You get use of a complimentary iPad when you stay with a 1GB free per day. Great service with polite and friendly staff. The also brought complimentary chocolates and water to my room! From $500 a night it's worth it. I enjoyed taking home the slippers and the Ethad toiletries ;D

I stayed here back in October 2013. The hotel was nice and clean! The service was good and if we ever needed anything they were there to help us! Not too crowded. The surrounding area is nice. You can walk across the parking lot and have dinner. I didn't visit the bar, but had room service was good, but a little pricey. This has probably been the cleanest hotel/room I've ever been in. But one weird thing was instead of queen beds in the room, they were twin. I don't know if that is how it is in Australia, but it's different in America. That was one thing my dad didn't like but it was manageable.

I travel a lot for business and even though it is a convenient location it is noisy, or maybe it was just my room location.

There are heavy curtains hanging and behind one lot of curtains was the pool table. Tables and chairs a plenty so your sure to get a seat. They have a small nibble menu and the Italian meatballs were full of flavour and came out in this cute cast iron frypan with bread on the side. I ordered a Peroni beer and fell over backwards as it arrived in a 500ml glass. They also had a special going that is you order a pizza and two 300 ml Peroni beers you pay $25. This cafe wine beer bar had friendly staff and is an Italian bar. Definitely worth a visit if you want to meet up with friends over a quiet drink.

A joke of a punishment for the crime. On video you can see this sick man speed up in a Audi, intentionally, to hit a child on a bike on the side of the road out of traffic. He proceeds to scream at the child, while the child pleaded for his life. I hope karma does her magic. Even more concerning is how Mr. Wright seemed to justify his actions by blaming the child's bike as "illegal," rather than genuinely acknowledging the danger and illegality his own driving posed. I expect higher ethical standards and community responsibility from anyone at the helm of a hospitality business. While the restaurant itself may serve somewhat average food or drinks, I personally cannot support an establishment whose leadership shows such disregard for safety and empathy--especially when a young child's wellbeing is at stake. Until clear accountability and genuine remorse are demonstrated, I'll be dining elsewhere. If you care about patronizing businesses that reflect your values, I would encourage you to consider taking your money and support elsewhere, too. The experience at these venues sucked before these events occurred too, every other option nearby provide a way better experience. Terrible for family photos. Terrible lighting

In fact, I found that this particular bar did happen to have quite a bit of character about it. Okay, it was a little dark inside, but that is something that I have come to expect, and it is also easily missed, though from the crowds inside that doesn't seem to be the case, though I suspect it does have a lot to do with word of mouth, if that happens to count these days. Still, as a bar, this place wasn't all that bad.

The "Winter Warmers" section of the menu is short but sweet. Mulled Wine or a Hot Toddy for $14, or toasty warm rum (either Hot Buttered or Milk Punch) for $15. With Bacardi Oakheart spiced rum, dark cacao, spiced brown sugar syrup, chocolate bitters and yes, butter, I couldn't go past the Hot Buttered Rum. I watched the bartender cut off a slab of butter and drop it in the little saucepan used to make each individual drink, and I knew it was going to be an exciting time for me. The drink came served with two marshmallows and half a scotch finger biscuit (snapped lengthways, well done) and a warning - "let it cool for a bit, cos it's really f*cking hot". I truly relished our time together on the couch, accompanied by a bun from the Bun Mobile, parked outside for the evening. The marshmallows got absolutely annihilated in the (correctly described) really f*cking hot liquid and I highly recommend dunking the scotch finger. Knowing Brisbane's weather, I advise you to get in quickly for a Winter Warmer, because soon enough it'll be too warm outside again for a hot drink to seem anything but insane.

Look if the place had atmosphere to die for and excellent knowledgeable staff I could accept this punishment. But it's a hotel mantra lobby it's airy and cool, need my jacket, staff are young and not that knowledgable, makes you feel a bit fleeced. They did serve my whiting really quickly mind, but what is fish without some salad on the side? Sounds old fashioned I know but salad can be fashionable too ! I would be happy with half the serve of whiting- which was quite generous but if only I could have some vegetable matter in the way of leaves and dressing! Another quibble, they don't tell you wine regions! That can't be right! Why wouldn't you inform the customer about regionality? It's so important right now - terroir front and centre! I realise I don't choose a wine until I know something about its origins. These things can be easily fixed!
