He "found" his learning style with the help of the caring, talented educators at Forman. This DID NOT happen at his large public (highly rated) high school. Socially, he "found" his voice and "his people". If you have a child who struggles due to learning differences, please give Forman a look. They KNOW what they're doing, and do it well.

My daughter went off to her first choice college and will graduate in weeks. She was ready for the rigors of college and had the tools and knew how to use them to get the most out of her college career. I would not hesitate to recommend Forman to any parent who thinks their child needs a little more guidance to not only succeed academically but to enjoy learning again. These are amazing, smart kids who learn differently. Forman gives them opportunities to explore subjects that they are passionate about and supports and encourages their passions. The state of the art Visual and Performing Arts Center is to open in Fall of 2017 and the Fabrication Lab opened this year. It is the perfect school for an "outside the box" kind of student who wants more from a school.

The grounds were just really pretty and well kept. I had to interact with a several of the staff and they were all very nice and I loved how they treat all the students with a lot of respect and patience. Since I was rushing I left my car lights on and my car battery died. When I came back to my car and noticed that my car wouldn't turn on I walked to the security gate and told them about my dilemma. Right away they send someone to help me and give my car a boost. They were so nice and made sure my car was fine before they left. I loved the artwork the children; most of whom had special needs, did. Very impressive! I came in a few times for an educational training workshop that was informative and much needed about working with children with Autism.

When I came to Chapel Haven, my plan was to take the 2 year program and then leave for college. Well, by the end of those two years, I decided to stay in the area and continue receiving services. And now, after 6 years of living in this state, my physical and mental health are at the worst that they have ever been. Before Chapel Haven, I would have never dreamed of harming myself. About 4 years ago, I tried cutting my face. My weight is the highest it's ever been, and it only keeps getting higher. I have not finished college despite having gone to a prep school prior to attending the ASAT program. I feel inadequate about looking for a job. The only merit I can see in retrospect is the friendships I've formed. Oh, and the speech and language patgologist is nice too. I would advise against attending. In my eyes, Chapel Haven seems to define "independence" as "dependence on our services."

Look at the reviews for people who have been there 3, 4, 10 years. Why? It isn't free to do this - it's expensive. The point is to create independence, not create a line on the income statement. There were almost zero staff with experience with autism. Many different kinds of issues, including some that could be considered potentially dangerous. Autism does not need to be cured - it needs to be supported. There are those there with profound issues that may otherwise face institutionalization - they are staying at what could be about $82,000 per year (on our info sheet anyway). The classes were little more than YouTube shorts with no deliverables, taught by very inexperienced teachers. In short, this seemed to be a Haven for rich families who need to have their adults elsewhere. I would say that Anna K's review on this page sums up the experience nicely - horrible. Waste of money - ALOT of money.

I watched each child be greeted with kind-hearted attention by the front office staff. The ceremony was nothing short of amazing, a beautiful tear jerker and humbling experience to see all of these wonderfully made children set & achieve their own uniquely individual goals. The mayor of the city (Yonkers) took time out of his day, attended and presented the graduates with their diplomas. Very well put together program and a moving experience for all. Congrats graduates and excellent job to the staff.

I visited the school and I was excited because the school was in a good building and it had everything that my son needed. When my son first started he was supposed to have a 1 on 1 aid and when I checked in a few times he didn't , it took the school some time but they finally hired a local young lady to work with him with in a few weeks even though they knew months in advance that he was starting. My biggest disappointment was my son coming home filthy with dried up food on his face that had probably been there since lunch that no one bothered to wipe off and stained clothing. How embarrassing and disappointing to have to take him off the school bus that way in the afternoon. I complained to my school district but nothing changed even though the school got the complaint. I just couldn't comprehend why if they hired an aid for him and him only why couldn't she take care of one child, why did he have to look like no one cared about him. If I could have pulled him out of the school and kept him home I would have. My sons aid or teacher hardly ever wrote in his communication book that I sent with him daily unless there was something that they needed or they thought he wasn't feeling well. He did one year there and I couldn't wait to get him out of that school. I won't be bias, I talked to another parent that I know that sends her daughter there and she was happy so everyone's experience is different. What I would say to any parent with special needs children, if you're unhappy with a program, find another program that you're happy with.
