I have been taking lessons with Lauren for about 6 months now and I am absolutely hooked. I have been casually singing (i.e. "shower singing") my whole life and at age 42 I decided to finally take voice lessons. I started taking singing lessons with Lauren about a year ago, never having taken a private voice lesson in my life. I had always been in choirs and sung in the car but had no real training. These lessons have become the highlight of my week! And, now that Lauren has transitioned to Zoom lessons (because of Covid-19), I have found that online works just as well as in-person. Lauren is knowledgeable, technical, and supportive--all wrapped up in one. Every week she teaches me more about my instrument--my voice--and helps me expand my range and my sound. She is able to give me a variety of techniques and exercises (including using great visual aids) to help me improve. And, she can play anything on the piano by ear (she has perfect pitch, which is amazing!). I studied voice with Lauren for about two and a half years before I moved out of town. As background, I had sung a little in choir as a child and in high school, but hadn't really sung in over a decade. Lauren was an excellent teacher. She made sure to assess my individual issues and developed specific exercises and drills to help me address each of these deficiencies. Specifically, she noticed that my voice was used to "blending" due to all my years in choir. She helped me learn to refocus my voice, which brought much more clarity and energy to my singing. There was always some new drill or exercise to try. I felt like there was progress made during each lesson. There aren't enough good words in the world to describe how talented, patient and incredible Lauren is as a teacher and mentor. Having put musicals and singing on the back burner for a film career, my voice was VERY RUSTY when we first met. I went to teacher after teacher before finally landing with her, and I am SO GRATEFUL that I did. She is a classically trained soprano and also plays piano- both of which were specific things I was looking for, as I am a soprano and kinesthetic learner. HOWEVER, it is important to know that she has opened up my voice for so many more genres than just classical. I am more naturally a belter and she has taught me to belt properly and BREATHE properly without over straining. She has helped me access and open spaces in my instrument I did not even know were there- And in the HEALTHIEST way. Accessing these spaces has also lead to opening a range I never knew was there. The breakthroughs we have had have truly moved me to tears at times. What I feel everyone who works with Lauren should know- what I feel makes her truly unique- is that she is intuitive to who you are and HOW YOU LEARN. She is able to teach in a VARIETY of ways. Some days, we use visuals, movements and imagination to get me where I need to be. Some days, we get incredibly scientific- stand in front of a mirror openmouthed or look at diagrams so I can really understand what my muscles are doing. And some days we just let everything go and focus on the heart and emotion of a piece. The woman is a vocal genius. There are just so many components to what we do as singers, and I believe, from the bottom of my heart, that she is a master class in all of them. And, most importantly, she cares. You will see how equally exciting it is for HER when you have a breakthrough.
