But, boy, when that 1 out of 10 times hits, it's because I've found something really amazing at a fraction of the cost at the main store. For example, I paid thousands of dollars to the main store for furniture from the Tate Collection, and I found two more pieces to add to it at the outlet for around $200. This is high-quality, mid-century-modern furniture designed by this really awesome guy named Blake Tovin. The outlet's furniture might have minor wear and tear from being in a showroom or being returned by a customer. The sales staff ALWAYS points out any nicks or dings to me before I buy a piece. You can't return things to the outlet, so it's a demonstration of integrity that they want you to see what might be flawed, so that you aren't duped. Sometimes, however, there are absolutely no flaws, and you're buying something in perfect condition. I have been lucky in that regard. A bookshelf I bought had one scratch from where a sticker was stuck to it and had been scraped off. That scratch, still, would not have been discernible to me or someone walking by. Anyway, great sales staff and a great store for hunting for a bargain.

It's been a month since the furniture was picked up by the logistics company. And after 4 calls to the logistics company, they told me to have Crate and Barrel reach out to them to address the many issues with my order (damaged merchandise, lack of communication from Crate and Barrel) along with it just sitting in a warehouse for the last month. I've contacted Crate and Barrel multiple times over the past month (both via email and via phone). They've basically taken a hands' off stance and told me to deal with FragilePak. I'm absolutely livid with the crappy service from Ali and the team at Crate and Barrel. There is still no resolution as of today and nobody at Crate and Barrel is lifting a finger to fix this shit show.

The worst part, is when I called to tell him what happened, he pretty much accused me of breaking it. Why would I break my own vase that I just purchased? It looks brand new - it just doesn't hold water so clearly there's a crack somewhere. Just making everyone is aware of the "buyer beware" thing they have going on that they FAIL to tell people about prior to purchase. Clearly they don't value a customer that has spent $3000 in 2 months there. You would think that Matthew, who was the salesperson and also the manager, would have better people skills as well versus acting like a child on the phone.

They have Renoirs, Picassos, Monets, and so much more. The bathrooms are surprisingly very nice, the AC was absolutely on point, and it was not crowded when we visited. A perfect spot to get a little culture in between meals. Honestly, a must hit for out of town visitors looking for something fun to do that does not involve eating. Be sure to hit the gift store too, a museum gift shop is usually well curated, and this one is no exception! (though I will say the lady working the store had a sh:tty attitude)

The DMA has a supporter membership for $120. It includes parking which would cost you $20 otherwise. You also get two free admission tickets that you can use to view the museum's collections or any special exhibitions each and every day of the year. The membership will also provide a discount at the museum store and in the snack bar. Visit twice during the year, and the membership more than pays for itself. You can buy your membership online, print the receipt, and show it for free parking. Once inside the venue, show the receipt at the check-in desk to get your free tickets to the special exhibit(s). Your DMA cards will be mailed to you in four weeks, in the mean time, use that printed receipt for everything. We renewed our membership this weekend April 2026 and went to see the Samurai Collection. Metalwork is not a favorite of mine, but I was still fascinated by the stories presented on the placards throughout the exhibit and I certainly appreciated the beautiful, intricate craftsmanship presented in each piece. I didn't realize that the Samurai swords and armor had been banned from production in Japan, so the metal workers pivoted and learned to become artisans. They started to make and repair metal embellishments, lanterns, and incense burners for the numerous temples in the country. Many of the items in this collection were from Kyoto and Nara, both places my husband and I visited in November 2009. The full body armor was fascinating. Little pieces of leather were coated in metal, painted, and woven tightly together to form a moveable, but protective layer over the body. The workmanship was exquisite. The exhibit had a few short videos you could watch to learn about the work. I especially liked the 30 second clip about the process of making cloisonné. These vases are beautiful and the process to make each one is detailed and meticulous. Kids could collect a postcard-sized scavenger hunt near the entrance and use that to stay in engaged throughout the visit. At the end, there was a sign on the wall with the answer key pictures showing which art pieces help the intricate designs they were looking for. The DMA has a permanent collection that includes a variety of art from around the globe, as well as multiple special exhibits throughout the year. Everyone is bound to find something that delights them and inspires conversation and wonder. Worth a visit!

Empress herself is a jewel and bent over backward to satisfy our needs. They had items and pricing to fit just about anyone's needs. A stellar review would almost be an injustice...... Wow! Wow! Wow! I saw their ad in DHome and thought to myself... Ok another mineral store. As a little girl I was always fascinated with rocks. This is the "pot of gold" of minerals! Nothing prepared me for the vast assortment and great customer service. I walked away with something I love that I never even knew existed! My 9 year old grandson wasn't too excited to go but once he stepped inside and saw a shark tooth, he was all over it! Even hubby was so impressed and glad he tagged along. My granddaughters found so many pretty things but I limited everyone to two items each. The girls each wanted a shell ring and a turtle jewelry pendant. HUGE selection of jewelry making supplies, including stone, jewels, metal findings, etc. and so many beautifully polished rocks and stone pieces and crystals. The prices seemed very reasonable. After we took the grandkids to the Perot museum last summer and they loved the huge rock displays, my oldest granddaughter wanted a rock tumbler for her birthday. We did fulfill that wish and even helped her tumble a couple of sets of rocks over the month long process. I brought our results with us to the store. I asked the young lady at the counter about what might have happened. The kind older man behind the counter walked by and asked so nicely if he might step in to help. He explained that rocks have different levels of hardness and we could probably get best results by tumbling all like rocks at a time. Makes perfect sense! I was just so impressed at how kind (to us and to each other) and helpful everyone was. I think it was a father (owner perhaps?) and daughter working together and the working relationship was beautiful to experience. Everyone had a great experience at Rock Barrell and can't wait to return!
