Came here for a late showing and had a good experience. Seats were comfortable, the screen looked great, and the place stayed clean.

My friends and I went here together to see a movie we were really excited about when we got there we were greeted by this very rude lady and she had a police officer with her and was actively firing this poor guy that worked there and was yelling at him right as we walked in i'm pretty sure they called ICE on him which is very sad when we got into our theater it was so disgusting and the seats were all ripped up and greasy they didn't even have any water there also the ceiling looks like it is falling apart and the movies screens are dirty and have dents in them I will not be coming back. read more

I was excited about coming to a nostalgic theater. I was not sure what to except. There is a ticket booth outside but you walk in to buy tickets. Sometimes there are red flags we notice but don't seem to make us change our mind. When we walked inside I noticed 2 stand fans blowing and it was a little warm. I was in the DFW area for a business trip and linked up with my work buddy as we both fancy anime. I went to see The Boy and the Heron, this was the only theatre that was showing it at a later time in the evening. As we drove to the area of the theatre, I immediately thought that it looked like the old Houston River Oaks district or Rice Village. From the outside, the theatre, it was giving modern and traditional vibes. Once my acquaintance and I walked inside, we both said to each other, "Is this place abandoned? or are they still in business?" I asked myself, "Why would the GPS or even Google suggest an inoperable theatre?" My coworker almost wanted to turn around and leave, but I encouraged her to check it out. Omg, I just wasn't expecting to see Art Deco-style fixtures in semi-mint conditions. It felt like I was in a 1940s film or took a time capsule back to the olden days. It was pretty cool honestly. The lobby of the theater was beautiful in a vintage way. I loved it, so much charm and character. I did wish that they would have kept the box office, but we ended up having to order our tickets from where we purchased popcorn and drinks. The two employees that were working the night that we went were a bit comical. The older lady had a bit of dark and dry humor while the younger guy gave off the nonchalant, but "I kinda love my job" vibes. Nonetheless, they were friendly and personable. The popcorn was cold, but flavorful. It did not taste stale as one would think. I ordered a large sweet tea that wasn't sweet but watered down. It was funky to walk up the mezzanine stairs to get to the room where the movie was playing. Once we arrived, the theater room itself was even more outdated with stained, but not torn seats. Surprisingly, the floors weren't sticky or cluttered with crumbs. The theater room did not get completely pitch black as the modern cinemas do. There was a dim light that shined above my head throughout the movie. It was a bit annoying, but I tried to ignore it. The Ghibli movie was a good one. If you haven't seen it, you gotta watch it. The ending itself always seems to be a tearjerker. Even the ladies' restroom was dated into the old-world era from the sinks to the toilets, the tile on the walls, and the smell. I gave off a "grandma house" aesthetic. I love that the DFW area still has a historic cinema that's still standing, Houston would never stand a chance to keep anything like this in its original form without wanting to modernize it. read more

This is one of the oldest theaters in Dallas and maybe needs a bit of a refresh. The outside and inside design s beautiful and harkens back to older theaters that you just don't see anymore. But it is very run down. The paint and wallpaper is peeling off most of the walls and the bathroom looked like a demolition room. The actual theater seats are OK (although our theater was upstairs, I think the room downstairs has couches insread of real seats.) The room had a bit of an old-age odor and we were the only ones there. The nice thing is that they do show some movies that are not available anywhere else, for example some straight to Netflix films. Be sure to join the free membership club for discounts on ticket fees and on Tuesdays. I'd go here if I really had to but I would really try to go to any other place. read more

The concept of this theater is creative and innovating . That I was actually shocked that the few times I've come, it's never been as busy as other theaters I've attended. Especially on movie release days. They don't offer much food or really None at all , but they do have soft drinks and wine /beer. The prices of admission are fair and compatible with other theaters, actually they're more affordable than other movie theaters. You can clearly see that this is a much older theater, it's beautiful and has character, but it could use Some much needed and deserved upgrades. From the curb appeal all the way to the bathrooms, to the stairs , to the couch like chairs and beanie bag chairs , some renovations should be in Motion. The sounding isn't always the best either. The theaters smells odd, kind of an old mildew and mold smell. I've came here a few times and to experience a couple of different theater auditoriums . so it's fair when I say it's likely that it's the entire building it's self and not just an occurrence in a particular auditorium or two. Maybe it's time to replace the couches and or the carpet . I'm curious to know how often they clean all the furniture inside each theater, because my last time visiting, when leaving and the lights came on after the production. I was beyond disgusted on how Stained some of the couches were, and I felt Disgusted knowing that I was sitting in that filth for all that time. With Covid now apart of our daily lives maybe that can become one of their reasonings for better cleaning and sanitizing practices. Some additions to the menu (like adding some actual food in general or allowing outside food) could add a lot of value to this place . Their process is a tad bit ridiculous and outdated. The theatre itself is old and goes with their system. I got a ticket online. Showing is at 1:15. I got here at 12:55 and there are only two employees at the concession stand. I wasn't looking to buy any food and just needed to scan my ticket. I asked if I needed to stand in line and the rude old lady yelled at me to get back in line. It would help if there are signs. How am I supposed to know? I chose this theater because of what I read about the couch seating, but it turns out that that's only in Theater 1. The movie I chose was showing in a different room, and by the time I realized the seating situation, it was too late for me to make changes to my plan. This is no longer the theater that I remember so fondly from childhood. My family and I will not be returning because: 1) Most of the seats in the theater had cosmetic stains that betrayed a general lack of regard for basic cleanliness. 2) The movie we were supposed to see was listed online and on our tickets as starting at 1:00. At 1:30, when I notified an attendant that the movie had not yet begun (not even trailers), I was told that "the time on the ticket is wrong" and that it was supposed to start at 1:30. 3) When my family and I went to get a refund for our tickets (because we had received incorrect information and no longer had time to see the film), we were told that we could not have a refund without our tickets in hand (my dad had thrown ours in the trash after getting concessions). The manager said, begrudgingly, that the best she could do was to give us two movie passes to use in the future (there were three of us in my group). We just left and said we wouldn't be back. Frankly, the theater was gross and the staff were neglectful and uninterested in customer care. read more

Albeit the ticket pricing scheme is more greedy this time around, I still absolutely love this theater and it's atmosphere. I watched 22 Jump Street here a year ago when it came out and recently for Inside Out in 3D. I discovered that only Theater 1 had couches and upstairs are 2 normal theaters which were bummers to my date and I. To get the full movie and couch experience we paid $3 extra each for the 3D showing of Inside Out and it was fun and comfortable for the two of us. What a lovely concept for a movie, to me. This makes me wish all theaters had couches instead of lousy seats. I only wish that the Landmark Movie Co. wouldn't upcharge the couch theater room to exclusively 3D showings, but I can see why it's benefiting their revenue. This place is the perfect movie date night spot. Fit for lovers (on Lover's Lane, teehee) or kids and fambam. Check it out. :) read more

I haven't been to this theater in ages- first time in years. Overall, the theater has pretty much stayed the same, except now you have a ton of couches in the theater. I really try to avoid thinking about what happens on the couches and if I should bring my own slipcover the next time I come here- thank goodness it's dark. One thing to note- if you purchase your ticket online and receive the confirmation email that has the barcode and terms & conditions that state the email allows you to bypass the box office and can use the email as your admission ticket- you can't. I walked in, the ticket taker asks for my ticket, I show him my email, he said I have to go to the box office and still get a paper ticket. I show him where it clearly states that I don't have to, he can't give me a legitimate reason why so he just continues to say that I have to go get a paper ticket. So, either the digital tickets should update their terms & conditions, or your employees need to understand what can and cannot be accepted. read more

I've been here a fair number of times, and I've never been disappointed. The first floor has a theater with couches instead of typical seats. They're super comfy! The location of the theater is pretty convenient - I'm a little biased since I love Trader Joe's, but there are also many restaurants around if you're into the whole dinner + movie date type thing! My wife and I have been going to this theatre for our entire marriage and even before that. It was "our theatre". We always loved the nostalgic feeling of the entrance and the lobby area mixed with the fun twist of couches (even though they look older than me) in the main theatre instead of normal theatre seats. However, over the last year or so, it has taken a tremendous nose dive. The customer service was so poor calling it "service" would be a compliment. The theatre was literally falling apart. Baseboards falling off the walls, crumbling drywall, faded and peeling paint, NO AC at least at the time we went, the theatre not being cleaned with trash and crumbs still being in our seat, bathroom was nasty and partially flooded with toilet paper everywhere, and packed with young teenagers. Now, while being packed with teens isn't a bad thing it all, it was the fact that nothing was being done about all of the "side" conversations that were loud enough for everyone to hear, not to mention the people spewing profanities behind us the entire time. I had a chance to inform the manager who was apologetic which I appreciate but I imagine it will take a lot more than an apology for my wife and I to go back. Major changes need to be made. It would be a shame to see what used to be a fun and nostalgic hidden gem fail and go under. read more

I realize this is an icon of Dallas but WHAT A DUMP! The chairs are old and the material is all cracked. The food is lousy old candy and stale popcorn. Carpet is stained and gross. Ceiling has water stains. Bathrooms are aooo outdated. This theater could be so beautiful but the owner has let it waste away. Easily one of my favorite theaters. They have a room downstairs filled with couches instead of regular theater seating and it's just such a fun and comfortable experience. They only show one movie in it all day so it's best to call ahead of time to check what's on their rotation! They have more rooms upstairs but these have regular seating so they're comparable to the average movie experience. Popcorn is always ultra buttery and salty and they have a sufficient drink selection. It's a very simple theater but those couches keep me coming back!! read more

It's been at least 5 years since I've been to the Inwood Theatre. We went to watch the short animated Oscar nominated films and what I love about this place is the small intimate theaters. The Art Deco decor is refreshing compared to modern theaters which really have no character to me. The Inwood bar reminds me of what some new bars are trying to emulate the 1950's lounges. Definitely worth the trip if you enjoy an atmosphere with style and character. Oh and a good theater to watch films. read more

Theater is on its last leg, so you'd think they would welcome business instead of turning it away. Showed up to a Thursday matinee at 25 after show time and they wouldn't sell me a ticket. Movie had only been running for 5-10 minutes at that point. I highly doubt the theater had more than 10 people in the entire place. Their loss for turning me away and losing a $25-$30 sale along with any future business too. Thanks to the rude staff, especially the older, white female manager whom other reviews have called for rudeness too, I won't be coming back here again. Okay so I have been a fan of movie theaters for years. No, not just movies, but the venue. I like the good, the bad, and the funky. So I was on the hunt for an out of the way spot, that is in the heart of the way at the same time and found the Inwood Theatre. Little known well known factoid, this is owned by none other than Mavericks owner, Mark Cuban. Located in a small shopping plaza right outside of snazzywood, on the corner of Inwood and Lovers lane, this place absolutely brings it. This is an adult theater. No, not that kind, so no overcoat unless it's raining. This is a theater, for adults, done up for grown folks and grown groups looking to enjoy a movie, out, but in. There is a sofa company called Lovesac. They make couches, love seats and bean bag chairs. Well the main lounge theater, is chocked full of those pieces. Huge bean bag chairs, wide comfy chairs with an ottoman, and loveseats, with an ottoman. They even provide blankets and throw pillows, or you can bring your own. Wuh wuht? Correct, pillows, blankets.. because adulting is hard work and adults get tired and truly need to rest sometimes. Before you enter, there is the snack bar with all the usual suspects, pop em a corn, drinks, candy, dogs, but then look to the left, what is that? The Lounge? Step inside and you will find the neatest little bar you have ever seen. Super cozy, dimly lit, but fully stocked to meet your drankin' needs. Neatest thing about this spot is you go on and order your beverage, your libation, and take it right to your loveseat where they have these huge cup holders so you won't spill a drop. Take your shoes off, grab a blanket, fluff up a throw pillow under your arms, prepare to watch the movie in the biggest living room you have ever been in... Unless you already live in Highland park. In which case you are slumming, and need to go home. Every October the Inwood runs the Rocky Horror Picture Show for cult fans of this iconic rock show. Have been a couple of years and some come out in full character. If you prefer, there are more than enough restaurants right across the street or within a block. Looking for a classic movie, this is also your spot. Best part is, the ticket pricing is comparable to lesser theaters that don't even spell it theatre, with the r before the e. Now that I think about it, you even get the r, before the e. Now that has to be worth the trip... or maybe I'm just trippin'. 4 stars, and 4 Junipers. read more

Nice theatre for what it is. Not too many selections when it comes to movie options, and they aren't always up to date. The theatre isn't fully furnished with bed couches as it might seem, only the bottom floor is. And the bed couches are only the ones closest to the screen, the rest are actual couches. We watched Greta though, good movie. Price is a bit steep, but it's priced fairly close to a regular theater. The bed couches are wide and great for cuddles, you can bring your own blanket and pillows! Employees are nice and welcoming, snacks are more expensive than Cinemark and less portions too! read more

It's nice to have at least a few classic theaters left in Dallas. We had a lot of fun in the love seats - I was almost totally reclined and thankfully the movie was good so i didn't fall asleep! Parking is usually easy which is refreshing for a theater. The one thing that pushed it to 5 stars for me was the service from the theater manager. We had a ticketing issue that was totally outside of the the Inwood Theater's scope of responsibility but he was amazingly gracious and completely solved our problem for us. Awesome service and we were so appreciative. I wanted to get his name but didn't have a chance since we were so close to the movie start time. Helped us have a fantastic Friday night date night at the theater, maybe with a little snuggling in the love seats ;-) read more

This place has seen better days. Seems dingy and dirty. Lobby was really warm. We were told to line up on the stairs: All of you. And the ones waiting to go in the theater went up the stairs which cleared the lobby but then all the new people came in and stood around, so the people who had been there the longest, didn't get to go in first. While waiting on the stairs, I looked up and some big pieces of paint had fallen off and some other spots were peeling. Bought a drink at the bar and asked the guy why it was so hot in there and he said: old AC unit. Not sure how/if they keep the couches clean. I don't plan to go back to that theatre unless there's a remodel. I'd rather drive to a nice place. read more

It's within walking distance of my apartment, and is so comfortable with high quality movie screens! What makes this theatre so special: Huge couches with ottomans Lovesacs Pocky sticks at the concession stand! (chocolate or strawberry coated skinny bisquits) Bar Friendly staff $7 for a matinee What's also nice is that they have couches next to huge comfy individual chairs, so if you went with a group, couples could snuggle and their single friends can sit next them in a separate chair! I can't believe I've lived here 7 years and have never been to this theatre. It's so cute and cozy with huge lounge chairs, pillows and couches in every theatre. They don't serve food but have a full bar (you can take your drinks into the theatre) as well as your main movie snacks. However, they're in the perfect location, surrounded by tons of restaurants to visit before or after a movie. I'll definitely be back, especially since I live 5 minutes away. No need for an AMC or Studio Movie Grill for me. Be sure to call beforehand as their movie selection is limited. But bring a blanket and enjoy! read more

Couches instead of seats? Awesome. A bar that lets you take your drink into the movie? Awesome. The best fro-yo place in town right next door? Awesome. That feeling like you're in on a neighborhood secret rather than being shuffled in with the masses in another chain theater? Awesome. I really can't say much that hasn't already been said. Minus one star because for a neighborhood-type theater, it sure doesn't have neighborhood prices. I know, I know, this is ridiculous of me...but I'm still mourning my beloved Highland Park Village Theater. (It's currently closed for renovations, and I'm terrified that the $5 tickets will be $10 when it reopens.) I particularly love going to the HPV Theater during the Christmas season (hello gorgeous tree lights), so this year, the Inwood will be my fallback. Meanwhile, fingers crossed that the people renovating the HPV Theater won't get rid of that family-run charm. However, I think any sort of "renovation" is probably intended to do just that. :( read more

Oh man. Well..... I think the feel of the theatre is amazing. The energy here is so unique and genuine that it makes the atmosphere almost homey. BUT My biggest complaint is the seating. The couches? They smell. Like an old, moldy smell that was reminiscent of a basement. As soon as I walked into Theatre 1, I was hit in the face with the stinch. Now, usually I can take it and I'm not usually a pain with these types of things, but I was expecting for the seats to at least be clean. Management in this establishment had the most sour attitude I've ever experienced. Within the first 2 minutes of the movie I was told to get off my phone, which is fine since that is policy. However, for the rest of the movie there was kids running up and down the stairs of the theater and several others on their phone. Not once did the same manager or any other associates of the theatre come correct that issue therefore it was a disturbance the entire movie. When later confronted about the issue, the manager was very dismissive of our concerns and shrugged us off instead of hearing our concerns with an open mind. The upstairs was pretty dingy and smelled funny. The sound was pretty quiet and they left the door open which let a lot of light and sound in. Mixed feelings! I used MoviePass to get my ticket and stumbled upon this theater. I saw they had couch seating and got excited (this is also why I thought I couldn't pick my seat on the app). But the movie I was in was upstairs in a typical movie setting which was a little disappointing. It was a free for all for the seats like the good old days. I should have read the reviews and called in first to make sure I could experience the couches. I'll do that next time and update my review for that! This place is a hipster place for sure, located next to a lot of hipster businesses as well. I didn't mind but if you want a traditional movie theater this is not the place for you. The theater is older and not updated/modern. There's only 2 stalls in the bathroom. I agree with the other reviewers in that the theaters upstairs get loud and you can hear what was happening outside, but my movie was good and suspenseful so I could tune it out easily. Before the movie the manager came and spoke to us and hoped we enjoyed he movie which was unexpected but pleasant. The second floor theaters didn't appear to have elevators, so be mindful if you need that accommodation. Overall I just want to come back for the couches!! If I knew I would have had a traditional movie theater room I'd have gone to a typical movie theater. read more

I really enjoyed my first visit to the Inwood Theatre. According to the official website, the theater was renovated in January of 2005. I think they've done a terrific job of keeping a very unique theater. I love films, but I've stopped going to the movies. I was really hoping that going to a non-megaplex would offer a better crowd, but it was no different. Cellphone ringing, people talking, and an old lady next to me asking me questions because she couldn't tell the difference between Leo and Matt Damon. However, when I am in the mood to go out, I will keep the Inwood on my list of places to go because I enjoy the atmosphere. The screens are smaller, but the seats are the most-comfortable seats of any theater I've ever been in. You can also take an adult beverage in to the show. The grand staircase and murals are also something hard to find anywhere else. They also have midnight features on Friday and Saturday nights. I do like the fact that they didn't force commercials on me before the movie, but I would enjoy some crazy on-screen entertainment before the show, much like the Alamo Drafthouse has to offer. read more
