I love the concept of making fresh food accessible to everyone and anyone. It's such a great mission. The highlight for us was the nature play area; my little one could have stayed there for hours. They've done a fantastic job creating an outdoor experience that's genuinely fun and engaging for kids of all ages. I also loved the "lead experiences" they host every hour. We joined the chicken feeding, which was a huge hit thanks to Daniel! We felt very safe throughout our visit, and the security team was incredibly helpful and a special thanks to Stephanie for that. We're already looking forward to our next trip back!

The farm has on Thursdays and Sundays a pay what you can farm stand. This has been a tremendous help to the community, especially when Covid hit. When purchasing items it is private so other people cannot see if you need to use the opportunity to purchase items at a discounted price or at full price. There are also many educational opportunities on the farm. Camps for kids, after school programs and other events are available throughout the year. The farm recently opened a coffee cart as well. Swing by and get fresh coffee along with your fruits and vegetables. There are also chickens on the farm and fresh eggs are sold every Sunday. If you like to eat the rainbow, or try new vegetables, this might be the spot for you as well, depending on when you arrive at the farm, you can see the vegetables coming in just after they have been picked to be sold.

I have applied for every state resource, sought all available grants, and was referred here more than three weeks ago. It took me two weeks to speak with Karina. I obtained money through a GoFundMe created for me and my children after the terrible events, and I managed to come up with a deposit for a home. However, I am unable to pay this month's rent. On the day of my interview, I was praying for the assistance this program claims to provide--financial independence, resources to help victims maintain safe and permanent housing, and the ability to live safely and freely. But since I didn't stay passive while waiting for Karina to find time in her schedule and instead stayed in survival mode to care for my children, I do NOT qualify for this financial assistance. She told me I have to wait to reapply after I get evicted (a three-day notice is in hand today), but that is not enough to meet the program's qualifications. I will not give up. I plan to write a letter to the board of directors of this program, along with all the donors, to explain how I was treated and how a little help could have improved my situation. I also suggest including the requirement that applicants must be homeless in the flyer. Furthermore, allowing only one person to make the final decision and not considering how an eviction affects a mother desperately trying to rebuild her life is heart-wrenching.

I understand that the parking is for in-store customers only. But the moment I stepped out of my car, a woman came running out of the store and started yelling at me, saying the parking was for those businesses only. I hadn't even walked away from my vehicle yet, and she had no idea where I was going. For context, I'm a Type 1 diabetic, and my blood sugar suddenly dropped very low. In that moment, I urgently needed food or I risked being unsafe to drive. My boyfriend was with me, but he isn't insured on my car and doesn't know how to drive a manual--and she still insisted that I make him take my car. On top of that, it's not safe for me to be walking around alone when my blood sugar is that low. I calmly explained the situation and told her I just needed a quick snack and would be back in under five minutes. Despite that, she showed zero empathy and continued yelling. At that point, my priority was my health and safety. I also didn't feel comfortable leaving my car unattended given her aggressive behavior. I waited a few days to write this, but as a Type 1 diabetic, this situation was genuinely scary and upsetting. This happened Saturday in the late afternoon. Situations like this deserve more understanding and basic human compassion. Please do better.

This is a non-profit humanitarian organization that's mission is to "significantly improve the health, well being and self-reliance of communities in remote geographical locations connected to surfing." What all that basically means is that some surfers caught some awesome waves off the coast of western Sumatra, Indonesia and decided to help out the locals-big time. Off of Mentawai and Nias islands-which are geographically-isolated archipelagos off Indonesia-there is a high prevalence of easily treatable and preventable diseases and health conditions. Some compassionate surfers saw this and are doing something about it. SurfAid has field programs based on Community Health which aims to reduce infant mortality, improve access to clean water, provide hygiene education, sanitation, malaria reduction and improved nutrition. They also train for emergency preparedness and implementation of programs that address disaster management-especially important because this area of the world is heavily impacted by both frequent earthquakes and tsunami's. SurfAid also promotes educational programs to develop global citizenship and respect for the native flora and fauna of the regions. These beaches and surf breaks off Indonesia's West Sumatran coastline offer some of the most perfect surfing conditions in all the world. The people who inhabit the region are proud but suffer overwhelmingly from 3rd world illnesses-that with some educational assistance-are easily preventable. That is where SurfAid comes in. The SurfAid talk at the Surfrider San Diego Chapter meeting was a real eye-opener. Surfers who travel the world in search of the perfect wave want to help out where they can. It is important that SurfAid be seen as working in conjunction with the local communities in order to empower them to foster solutions. Yes-there are amazing waves in Indonesia, the scenery is breath-taking, the line-ups are uncrowded, but perceptive observers also note there exists areas of need. This Encinitas-based group is right here to offer a hand up, not a hand out!

This dynamic is welcomed to most people because they get to socialize and buy more then just fresh fruits and veggies. The only thing I am critical about is the organization of the booth space that allows the flow of people in better safety and comfort. I assume there was some store front push back that wanted 100% of there sidewalk available and clear surfing the market but what that has done has jammed too many people in what is obviously a "narrow space" to walk. It would be a fair and SAFE compromise to use 50% of the sidewalks on each side and adjust back the venders booths giving people 5 feet more in the middle to walk around. It would be easier to do this rather then assume or ask people to not stand around creating bottlenecks or be considerate of others and move like a car on a road. Expect to drive around for parking if you are not local enough to walk to the event and crowding due to the popular area it is in, live music, fresh foods and drinks as well as plenty of unique crafts and clothing.
