My husband and I came here for the first time today. We had no idea this museum was tucked away in Encinitas. I had accidentally happened up the website when I was searching for things to do in Encinitas. Upon entering the gate to park you are surrounded my beautiful native California plants and there were sculptures scattered throughout the grounds. The museum itself is a very beautiful and modern building We were not sure what to expect and let me tell you it is definitely not your normal museum experience. We were met by a dossier at the front and escorted inside. We bought our tickets and then were escorted into a large spaced that housed the art. What is really amazing about this museum is that they have the artist in residence. The art on display is by the resident artist. They come from all over the world and live and work at the museum for about a month and their art stays for about two months before a new artist rotates through. After we viewed the art work (some were still in progress!) we also were able to tour the actual residence of the artist. Very cool! Some of the artist even leave some of their pieces behind for the next artist staying there to enjoy. It was an intimate museum experience and was enjoyable. This place is a hidden gem! Current exhibit is by artist Lila Jang and her pieces are amazing.

We've been meaning to check this place out for months and finally did this weekend. We weren't crazy about the current work but fell in love with the building and grounds itself. The garden--completely native, drought-resistant plants and trees--is peaceful, attracting countless bird species from the nearby San Elijo Lagoon; I especially liked the apple tree installation. I practically wept with envy when our docent showed us the sunny, spacious artist-in-residence's apartment (way nicer than any studio I've ever lived in!). The Institute, which houses the exhibit/workspace and administrative offices, is architecturally stunning and undoubtedly conducive to fabulous creativity and parties; one wall slides completely back, opening to the garden and fresh air. On that note, I plan on returning for one of the Lux at Night events, where guests can meet the current artist-in-residence and ask them "just about anything" pertaining to their work and process.

This is one of the most interesting museums you will love to visit. It is run by a wonderful woman whom I met while attending one of the events seven years ago. I believe her name is Reesey. Her passion to this museum is absolutely incredible almost unbelievable. But it is because of the passion that she is able to bring such fantastic artists to the museum. This artists work on a masterpiece while residing Downstairs in a beautiful living quarter. After the 3 to 4 month period of working on their art pieces, they then open it up to the public to come and view. Those parties are a lot of fun, full of very interesting and intelligent individuals. I really love this place.

This place was really cool and a lot bigger than I thought! Got to speak with the artist as well for insight.

I hope this review helps someone who is thinking about doing the tour. My mom and I enjoyed a wonderful day out touring 8 home gardens in the Encinitas area (2026). (A couple of the homes were in Carlsbad and one was in Olivenheim, the remainder were in Encinitas). I purchased the tickets on-line prior to the tour and showed the e-mail at the first house stop, where we received a color printed booklet that would be our ticket for the remainder of the tour. The booklet had a description and photo of each house, along with ads for the artists. You also have the option to pick up your booklet at the Off Track Gallery in Encinitas. The drive between some houses was a couple of minutes, and as much as about 8 minutes for others. This is where your GPS comes in handy! You can follow the order suggested in the booklet. I had studied the map before arrival and slightly adjusted the order for our convenience. Curb parking was always easy. Many of the houses featured pools. Some had art studios. One had chickens and goats. Another had some garden art and a photo opportunity. Some had views to die for. All of them featured a variety of plants, trees, flowers, succulents, cacti, shrubs, along with art vendors selling their wares and a table of finger foods. The variety of art ranged from jewelry, paintings and ceramics to mosaics, photography and fabric arts. Prices started at about $10 and went up into the hundreds and everything in between. All the talented vendors were very friendly and welcoming, although we felt bad when we walked away without buying something. We also met a couple of the house owners who were interesting to talk to. The complimentary food included fruit, crackers and cheese, cookies, cake, chips, hummus, water, lemonade and more. It was lovely to graze the food and sit for a bit and enjoy the surroundings. The home gardens were open between 10am and 4pm. We started at 10am and finished about 3:15pm. This included one house that permitted us to also see the interior, which was a pleasant surprise. We also stopped at a local grocery store to use the restroom as only one home had an available restroom for use. I highly recommend this tour if you get a chance. It's a unique way to spend Mother's Day weekend and you may see parts of San Diego that you've never seen before. It was definitely an eye opener to 'How the other half live'! You do quite a bit of walking and 'in and out of the car', so by the end you're quite tired, but my 78 year old mom did it! Be sure to wear comfy shoes and sun protection. Some areas of the gardens do offer shade, but not all. The photos attached are from the 2026 tour. I understand the homes change each year. We hope to visit the Off Track Gallery at a later date as it was closed by the time we got there after the tour, but we could see wonderful creations through the window. Helpful?

The stars aligned as we roamed around Solana Beach like "locals acting like tourists" as I say. We're N SD peeps & honestly there is always something to explore. In between coffee cafes and consignment shops Cedros Art district is literally right up my alley. I just love the arts whether it's live music, photography, paintings, and/or you name it! We were warmly greeted by Anna & Ethan himself. Birds of a feather ~~ as I too dabble as an artist. He's hosts several events too! I'd like to return for one of those in person events. Once upon a time we joined one of his virtual "paint and sip" parties~~ via zoom at home. That was a lot of fun but now that pandemic has eased up on us we can interact in person again. If you appreciate the arts I'd highly suggest that you go and check out his works too! It took me a hot minute..but am so glad we finally made it! Now I'm inspired to get out my canvases and splatters some paint on them!!!

The first time I saw "New Earth" and read the poem accompanying it, I felt an immediate energetic upliftment. A fleeting thought passed through my mind of "that would be nice to purchase it" but I didn't think I would actually end up doing just that! I have never purchased art before this piece - I appreciate art, yes- absolutely. I visit museums and enjoy art galleries, I love making my own art, but I am no art collector (or maybe I am now?!) I inched towards making this purchase very slowly and cautiously. I gave it little "tests" of time. I asked the price, then said no on a few separate occasions. I kept thinking, if its really and truly mine, it will wait for me. No need to rush. This painting was like a gentle tug on the sleeve of my soul... not aggressive or loud in any way, just a quiet message of "I'm still here, I'm waiting for you." I really love this painting so much. It resonates so deeply with my being. I don't know exactly how it was created, or where its going, but I feel very blessed to have come into alignment with this particular creation. It uplifts me, it heals me and it reminds me of my purpose. Thank you, David, for serving as a vessel! Your work is amazing! Keep up the good work!

Just as you're multi-layered, so are these paintings. Each painting couples with a poem that speaks to the theme of the painting. Some theme examples are; self-expression, self-love, abundance and connection with something greater. As I paint I take pictures of these layers and provide these pictures to you, along with a copy of the poem, when purchased. I've enjoyed hearing many touching stories about how these paintings and poems have impacted the buyer. I'm inspired by the deeper levels and layers of the human being; the emotions, sensations and feelings going on beneath the surface. I believe that these deeper aspects of people is what drives their daily habits, routines and behaviors. I've spent many years diving into the depths of my own being and I draw on that depth and experience to create Paintings for the Soul.
