Who wants a root canal? I think we can safely assume that no one really wants one. That said, I've had four over a couple of decades, most recently yesterday. I had been putting it off for almost a year but knew that the longer I delayed, the more problems might crop up. I called Endoconic Specialty Group in Gresham on Tuesday. They schedule me for a consultation the next day. After going over the process and answering all of my questions, I was able to schedule the procedure for the same day as the office had a cancellation for later in the afternoon Everyone in the office was courteous and efficient. X-rays were taken to make sure everyone knew what was ahead and I was perfectly numbed by Dr. Vaughan. (I've never had such a totally painless experience.) A protective dam was installed to help with keeping it all clean and I was offered an option when I initally tensed up at the process. (I have a pretty strong gag reflex but the dental assistant worked gently and slowly, making sure I was comfortable with the device as she installed it.) The process took about an hour. I used my earbuds and music to distract me while they drilled away. I had mentioned problems that I had endured during previous root canals and it appears that Dr. Vaughan was able to get the job done without a recurrence of these problems. I was given specific post-op instructions on pain management and we discussed when I should call my regular dentist to schedule crown prep and cleaning -- in a couple of weeks. When my dentist let me know I needed a root canal I was alarmed. The mythology around "root canal" is one of pain and anxiety. None of this was the case with Dr. Vaughan and the Endodontic Specialty Group. They were able to see me soon after I called (the day after in fact). The evaluation was completed, x-rays snapped, and all was explained to me in generous detail. The procedure was local anesthesia and took less than an hour. They were able to do it the same day, right after the evaluation. The office was very professional. Getting "root canal" is not the boogie-man I have been led to believe - no more or less than most other dental procedures. Note that I am a retired physician. Had a root canal yesterday first time there,Ty Vaughn performed the root canal they must use some potent nova cane one shot in the cheek and a small shot in the roof of the mouth and I was completely numb for 4 or 5 hours all in all the service was painless I would highly recommend them ,(PS) his assistant was fantastic ,Always asking how I was throughout the whole procedure read more

I have been struggling with dental anxiety for years . However, in the last several years I found a fantastic dentist and when he said I needed a root canal I panicked. He referred me to Dr. Yatsushiro. I was able to be seen within a couple weeks and was on the cancellation list and was called earlier but couldn't go in unfortunately. I did appreciate the call however.The office staff was nice. I can't believe I had a root canal! Dr Yatsushiro was awesome. He explained things to me, he listened to me and the appointment was a breeze. I would definitely recommend him to anyone needing Endodontic services. I just had a follow-up with Dr. Ty Vaughn for the procedure he did a few months ago for my old root canal. I'm highly sensitive for any kind of anesthesia, even for plain numbing medication, and needless to say that was my main concern. He did an excellent job explaining the procedure to me and everything went really well! Today I had an X-ray taken and the gum had healed nicely. Amazing dentist who are very calm and professional. While explaining what needs to be done and what could happen etc they make you feel comfortable with positivity. I'm pregnant (what a great time to need a root canal redone, eh?) and cannot recommend Dr. Vaughan and his staff enough. I was treated with so much extra care and talked through every step of the process- he even found a small area of my tooth that needed treatment and had been missed in a previous root canal. only wish this place would give more time reminder calls instead of just 1 day ,, my doctor gives 2 day ,, other places 3 days in advance ,, i schedualed a ride company which i had to cancel,, i had to change my day and time i thought it was a differnt day, now iam in more pain ,, wish they have more places that do root canals,, and i changed it ,but the time when the lady called back to see if i could get in which i had the date set and which was not that long of time she called back she could have asked me if i wanted to keep the same time or change it, ,, she did not tell me she was going to give my appointment away , now schedualed differnt date and time , not happy,, i could have re ranged my schedual,, hope this place will be ok i will see read more

I would give 5 stars but it was my first root canal so I don't have anything to compare it to. Dr. Barker and his staff are wonderful. I was really nervous but they set my mind at ease immediately. The root canal was pain free. It was just difficult to hold my mouth open for that long. But Dr Barker offered several breaks in the procedure to let my jaw relax. He talks to you throughout the procedure, letting you know he's doing. Plus, his super awesome assistant (Barb?) keeps chatting away to take your mind off what's going on. I will definitely return there for any future endodontic work I need. read more

I was referred to Endodontic Specialty Group by my regular dentist. I needed a root canal done but my dentist was not able to see all the tiny canals in my tooth and she was not able to get me numb due to my tooth being so infected. Off I went to see Dr Yatsushiro. My tooth hurt so badly when I arrived to Dr Yatsushiro, I was on pins and needles as I HATE going to the dentist, I am difficult to get numb for regular work let alone and infected root canal. He figured out quickly I was extremely nervous. He literally treated me with kid gloves and was so considerate! He thoroughly explained what was happening in my tooth and what he was going to do. Every detail, he laid it out and repeatedly asked me if I had any questions. He inquired about my health after reading on my paperwork that I have a severe heart condition, he looked at every medication I take and asked a ton of questions and told me that with a condition like mine he needed to make sure everything was ok and most importantly, that I was ok! No kidding! He even made sure that I was ok with the chair laid back in case I had difficulty breathing because of my health condition! I was blown away at how kind and caring he is. "Gentle as a feather" is a great description of the Dr. I didn't feel his shots!! Not a bit!! He warned me when he was coming in with the needle but explained how he would inject a little bit, wait, push a little further, wait and repeat. It's the worst part of going to the dentist for me. He was the BEST. No joke. He offered to have his front office team come chair side and go over the cost of the procedure with me. Another mind blowing awesome gesture to make sure I was 100% understanding EVERY DETAIL. I absolutely must also tell everybody that he is so kind hearted that he even tells his assistants not to worry about the spelling of very, extremely difficult words when they were typing his words as he examined my mouth! Not only is Dr Yatsushiro a great dentist but I can tell he's a fantastic boss to his team. Bottom line is go and see these folks! If you need a specialist this is the team you want! I cannot recommend Dr Vaughan and his staff more highly. They are professional, courteous, thorough in explaining procedures, compassionate in handling anxiety and take as much time as needed to address every concern and question whether pre-op, during the procedure or post-up. As someone with severe dental anxiety, I can say Dr Vaughan and his staff are excellent. If I ever need a procedure that my regular dentist doesnt handle, I will be going back to Dr Vaughan. read more

My visit was great!! They were so kind and attentive. Both the dentist and the assistant took extra time to make sure that I was completely comfortable. They gave me a blanket and took time to make sure I was okay. They even split up my appointment so that I did not have to keep my mouth open that long (I have jaw problems) I would recommend this place to any person anywhere that needs a root canal. No matter how far a person would have to travel it is worth it to come to this place. They are 100 % the best place and best service I have ever experienced. read more
