This first thing I did after moving from NJ was find a gym in the area. Maya and I have been going to the gym on a nearly daily basis since he was old enough to be allowed in the child care rooms so it's a continuity I was keen on keeping up for both of us. This was the only gym within a 15 minute drive that offered reliable child care so by default it because the one we had to sign up for.
The child care portion of the gym (price included in membership!) gets 3 out of 5 stars because they only have it 4 out of the 6 days they are open. When I go to work on my fitness on Friday and Saturday, I have to do it alone. This makes Maya sad. I actually don't mind having the time to myself but I don't like Maya being sad either. We've only used the morning child care so I cannot speak for what happens in the afternoon...that being said, the woman who watches the kids (remembering names is not my forte) is kind, helpful and Maya says nice things about her like: "I mean she helps us out a lot." When probed for further information he added "I mean, yeah I like her." The room is big enough for the number of kids they normally get and it's full of different activities for them to do. She even lets them take turns using her kindle which I'd be afraid of since I've had my share of visits to iCrack but she cares more about the kids enjoying themselves than potential destruction of her property. Endearing.
The cardio area of the gym gets 3 out of 5 stars because most of the equipment is mad old but they seem to have just enough of it that you never have to wait or worry about getting a machine. Of course I have my "favorite" (newer) treadmill that is often occupied by someone else but it would be too picky of me to dock them because of that. The stair master is so old it's a shame and I've had to adjust my entire fitness regimen to avoid it or lessen my dependence on that brand of cardio.
The weights area of the gym gets 4 out 5 stars because although the equipment is old, 25 pounds is 25 pounds regardless of when it was made. The room is big and the crowd is usually small so again there's rarely a wait for a bench or a piece of equipment. By rarely I mean I've never had to wait for one in the month I've been going but I'm sure it happens sometimes. It has to, right? Yeah, it has to happen.
The group fitness room is the newest and cleanest looking place in the gym. I have yet to take a class here so I cannot give the classes a rating, however I've used this space for some of my own workouts and I loved it.
The worse thing about this gym is they are closed on Sundays. It didn't even cross my mind to look at the hours of operation before showing up one cool Sunday morning to a locked building. What's up with that? This is prime work out time. Sunday is when I get the most time to get it in and now there will be no getting it, and no in. Terrible. 0 out of 5 stars.
There's a sauna that kinda works as long as you remember to start the timer about 10 minutes before you want to go in there. 2 out of 5 stars.
There's a juice/smoothie bar that I've never seen anyone use. I, personally, don't trust it.
SUMMARY:
If you want to work out without frills and need a place to watch your kid while you do it. This place will get the job done. Don't ask for much cuz you won't get much.
Don't come on Sunday because they are closed.
Try the smoothie bar at your own risk but tell me what happened if you do. read more
