HyperSwole is a local owned Sports Performance Gym (Owned and Managed by Jacksonville Axemen…read moreMatthew Thornton). Matt Thornton is the Head Strength Coach/Program Designer for the Hyperswole Sports Performance Gym. HyperSwole also has Chris Philips (ONNIT Certified Trainer) and Sean Rutgerson (Head Coach for Jacksonville Axemen/USA Hawks Rugby League Teams). All the coaches are always available and approachable for Fitness Programs, tips, personal training. Hyperswole is not your typical gym. From a quick glance you may think that the gym is intended only for the hardcore fitness\gym fanatics. While the gym does have dedicated members, HyperSwole Sports Performance Gym has a program for every one regardless of age, fitness level and goal. The daily group fitness classes (that can be signed up online/mindbody app) are also posted on the main gym monitor. KidSwole Classes for ages 7-14 are held M,W,F as well a new offering for Senior fitness classes. You always have the option to follow your own workout OR work with one of the coaches to develop a custom tailored workout to meet your fitness goals. All of the artwork around the gym is by Coach Matt. It adds to the uniqueness of the gym and compliments all of the familiar gym equipment. There are rowing machines, xbex bikes, LifeFitness Resistance machines, cable cross-over machine, dumbbbell free weight area, squat and press rack area, and a dedicated deadlift area. Also available are heavy punching bags, weighted/fitness balls, kettlebells, boxes, monster tire/hammer, plate weighted push sleds and even an indoor basketball hoop! As the COVID-19 Pandemic is top of concern with many, all of the gym members and Coaches follow the best practices of proactively sanitizing equipment before and after use. The small group classes also allow to spread apart with space for each participant. While the gym can be busy at times, it is never overly crowded to the point where there is a concern or you have to wait a long time for equipment or machine. This is especially true for typical the peak times of other gyms or fitness clubs. HyperSwole also allows members to additionally sign up for 24 hour gym access (for those who prefer to work out on off hours or at their convenience). Definitely worth a trial! You can always stop by and talk to Matt or one of the coaches with questions. For an idea of workouts or more details check out the website hyperswole.com

This situation happened months ago and until recently I continued to get call from their collections team threatening me. Wild. They make it difficult to end the membership even without a contract and if by any chance you don't do everything to the last step of their instructions if payments miss they will charge several fees that will mount to 2x to 3x the monthly.

Asana bills itself as a wellness center and I am not sure why, however, they are a nice gym. They have good hours, although they recently changed them. I went four times during my free week pass and it was never busy. I did go during the middle of the day, but other local gyms have more traffic at midday then Asana. The locker rooms are pretty well kept. You don't need a lock as all lockers have a personal code you can choose. It seemed clean, but I did notice there are no facial tissues. Now, this isn't a deal breaker, but if you want to stop the spread of germs it is a good idea to have some tissue boxes spread through the gym so you can sneeze or cough into. There is a sauna and several shower stalls to use. I did not use them, but they seemed like the were clean and in working order. The gym itself seems very new. The free weight area is large and well organized. They have barbells that go fairly high. The circuit machines are plentiful and it seemed like they have most of the most popular machines. I did notice that there is no squat rack inside. That is a pretty big and glaring missing piece of equipment. Outside they have an artificial turf area where you can squat, deadlift, etc, but it is a bit cramped as it is underneath metal stairs. If you want to do a standing shoulder press you have to move as the stairs are right above you. Not a deal breaker, but a bit strange considering there is no squat rack. Outside they have some old large tires. You can use them for pyrometric jumps or you flip them. They also have sledgehammers so that you can swing and hit the tires to work out your core. They have a push and a pull sled and about 30 feet to use for that. I thought it was ample space. They used to have a spin room for classes, but it has been converted now. It now houses more free weights, smith machines, and benches. The membership rates seemed very fair to me. There were three tiers. Just the gym, gym and two amenities, and gym and all amenities. The cheapest tier is about $10, then $20, then $30. You can also pay in full to lock in a rate. The rates seem pretty good, but having been around a lot of gyms and reading other reviews has me wondering. Many people complain about cancelling their membership or being contacted to show up. I hate dealing with membership services for something that should be simple, but then again I do not have any first hand experience with that as I came in as a guest. All in all the gym is pretty good. A few strange choices in terms of machines or placement, but nothing terrible. Besides Mia I thought customer service was pretty okay. Mia at the front desk is super helpful and nice.

Focused on player growth and parental convenience…read more We decided to book a personal training session here for the kids and walked away incredibly impressed. The session was well-structured, intense, and packed with solid guidance. It's exactly the kind of off-season training they need to level up their game, and they're already asking to try the group classes next. Pricing is very fair compared to other local programs especially when you're enrolling three kids and could be even better depending on your class layout. A huge plus for parents is the small on-site gym area and recovery center, it's a lifesaver for making good use of your time while waiting. Top it off with a highly communicative, personable owner, and we're genuinely excited to see the kids progress here.

Most importantly, the kids enjoyed it and left excited to come back. I can already see how this could help them make major growth during the soccer off-season. The kids are excited to try the group classes next. Cost-wise, it felt on par with other soccer programs, especially with 3 kids enrolled. If anything, it may even be a little more affordable depending on how you structure the classes. Another nice bonus is the small gym area for parents to use during their kids' classes, which makes the time there even more convenient for families. The owner was also very personable and communicative. Definitely looking forward to seeing how much the kids grow here.

Any of you that might follow me for reviews would know that I don't review places that aren't…read morerestaurants or cafes. It just isn't my shtick. However, that Amy has made a gym is such an excellent caliber that I'm breaking my rule. This is literally the first review I have ever written on google for none food or coffee related establishment. I've been to several great gyms in my "fitness journey" but there really is something extraordinary about what Amy has put together here. First off, Amy is ridiculously exceptional and the technical pieces of Crossfit. The level that she can break a movement down, and coach a person through it is top-tier. She, and all of the coaches, also do a remarkable job of making sure everyone gets attention. One of the ways she does this is by limiting class sizes to a manageable number of members. You will NEVER make it through a class without a coach coming by to evaluate your form and give you pointers on how you can improve. It's really this level of personal attention and attention to excellence that sets Salt de Terre apart from other gyms. On top of the day-to-day WODs, Amy also puts a lot of effort into hosting clinics for specific movements and areas of the body. I've been to a Jump-Rope-Clinic and a few mobility clinics, and I honestly don't really get the chance to go to many. Amy, again, takes it to the next level though. After any clinic you can expect to see pieces of the clinic incorporated into the warm ups of the next classes. She doesn't just present the information to her members, she incorporates it into her style, into the coaching mentality of the gym. And all this was before COVID. To say I've been blown away my Salt de Terre's response to this would be an understatement. First Amy reduced class sized and had people disinfecting stuff. Then when the gym had to close, she didn't miss a beat. She loaned out gym equipment to the members and were almost immediately hosting online Zoom workouts multiple times a day. Then she added yoga classes (hosted by some of the gym members that teach yoga), and then a mental health clinic, and then weekend get together events (baking, make-up, murder mystery, etc). While I can't imaged the effort this took, you would think she had already prepared for it. That's how seamless it felt. I honestly can't recommend Salt de Terre, Amy, and the staff there enough. If you like Crossfit style workouts (no AC, lots of movement, and no treadmills) that you will absolutely love Salt de Terre. And as much as I hope you don't steal my gym spot, I really do hope you check it out. Let's be real, there are thousands of gyms in the city and most of them have the same equipment. You don't go to a gym because of the equipment, you go because of the coaching (at least you should). And Amy is one of the best coaches I have ever had, and she's one of the best coaches you can ever have too.

Staff are all generally all helpful. Front door staff try to be quick. The service desk can be quick, but lines do occur since there is generally only one or two people working it. The KidZone staff are the true gems of the Y. My daughter loved all the caring folks who watched her daily for a couple of hours while we worked out. I cannot tell you how great they are. I never used the training staff, but they were helpful when needed. The one staff member that completely sucks is the skinnier old guy with the grey beard. That guy has the ick and tried to shoo me away from equipment when I was working out on it just because he wanted it. I politely let him know the equipment would be available when I finished. The Y activities for our daughter were really great. During our time at the Y we participated in an Easter Event, Daddy Daughter Dance, Wellness Days, Christmas events, and more. This really helped us feel part of the community and I made some great adult friends. The programming staff are stars at their job. The indoor pool is amazing. My daughter went from zero swimming skills to being completely able to swim alone at 3.5 years of age. The program pool is heated and made teaching our daughter how to swim a great experience. Parking can be difficult at the Y if you come in the afternoon. Saturday mornings were also another time you would want to avoid the parking situation. It would be great if they paved the other lot and added lines. It was the Wild West down there. Additionally, folks will dent your car and not care or leave a note. Parking here with a nice car is a big issue especially if you want to avoid dozens of small dents and chips. The actual weight lifting area is perfectly fine. If you are someone that likes classic weight lifting gyms, this really isn't the place to join. You can get a great workout in, but I found folks lacked gym etiquette knowledge. Same for the running track upstairs where there are running directions for each day. The amount of folks that cannot read directions is a bit appalling. Additional areas that are great are the full sized basketball court with 6 hoops and the playground outside. I found time to play basketball every week. The one downside is no basketball league for adults and unequal time given to basketball compared to other sports. I would have loved a volleyball drop in too. Considering how popular volleyball is in the area, it would have made sense to add. Overall, the Y is amazing. There are many great staff members and many great members that made coming here a wonderful experience.

As a former member (Athlete), I can say there are pros and cons to joining CrossFit AGG. (However,…read morethis can be the case anywhere you go or anything you do.) THE PROS: If you are a beginner to the CrossFit world and want to get a taste, this is a good box to start at. There is one coach (the owner) and the membership is small so there "can" be more opportunity for focused coaching. Because of the box size, there is plenty of equipment to go around and you don't have to work in stations. Most members are very encouraging of each other and won't hesitate to (if they have finished their workout) to jump in and work beside you to help you finish yours. They make you feel like it is a family. THAT is what I miss the most; the camaraderie. THE CONS: After researching and comparing the WODs (Workout of the Day) with AGG and other Jacksonville box's, the intensity is much lower. So if you are looking for an extreme workout or to prepare for any competitions; I personally would not recommend this place. This is not to say you won't sweat your butt off and feel it later, because you can/will if you put your all into it. The coach does not always catch your technique being off and correct you (which can hinder your performance and risk injury). Punctuality: There have been several occasions in which he is late to a scheduled WOD or even fails to show up without prior notification to members. My suggestion to anyone wanting to get into Crossfit: do your research, check out several boxes and see which one will be a fit for you. Ask questions, listen to their responses. Are they trying to sell you on CrossFit or their box? Are they confident in the answers they provide to you? You want to make sure the money you are spending will benefit YOU and your health!
