We found out about this tower from the hotel front desk and thought, why not--it's free! Parking was easy, and the views did not disappoint. From the top you get a full 360° view of Duluth, including the aerial lift bridge, which was super cool to see. The tower's only a few stories high and has rails to help with the climb, though it's not ADA accessible. Along the way, we also learned about Mr. Enger and his impact on the city, plus Duluth's special ties to Norway. Definitely a neat little stop! Nice views. Nice park for a stroll. Good way to get in some stairs great 360° views of Duluth even during the Canadian wildfire smoke of June 2025. It was a string Quartet practicing in one of the shelters when I was there, so it added a little extra ambience. Free parking, free park, nice little Japanese garden as well. Taking an autumn walk here could be risky depending on the temps and wind. Today, I hit a windier, cooler day. I was prepared, but it made me move through a little faster. The sights are great and the views from above the city and bridges are definitely wonderful. There was a wedding just wrapping up as I got there, so they do host events. The tower was really cool to see. It was fun walking to the top and having a 360 degree view as you walked around the stone structure. If you want to make it a day, they do have picnic tables and coal grills available. The public bathrooms a look to be closed seasonally, they were this day. Overall, it's a park but the views and location make it a notch above the others. I'd recommend a visit if you're in the area and want to take in a couple sights. read more

I never knew this place even existed before looking for something to "waste an hour" in Duluth. This park was absolutely lovely! It's a windy road to the top of the hill where the parking lot is, but lots of trails to walk around and some stunning views, even if you don't go up in the tower. The tower itself is pretty easy to traverse, not a ton of steps and landings with windows at every floor. Even my hubs, who does not do well with heights, managed this ok. Definitely worth a stop and walk around. read more

A must visit when in Duluth! After reading about this park online and chatting with locals, we are so glad we paid it a visit! The park is free and had a couple of trails to walk, a Japanese garden to explore(don't forget to ring the bell), and a viewing tower! The the viewing tower is about 100 steps or less to the top with areas on the 1st,2nd,3rd floor to stop and take in the scenery. The park is free and there was a parking lot. We had no trouble finding a parking spot, a lot of people were coming and going. If you have time bring a picnic, they have picnic tables available for use. read more

Beautiful, busy park. We climbed the tower and admired the view; slightly foggy on the downtown side. After the tower, we hiked the superior trail for 4 miles. The trail was in good condition but mainly uphill on the way back. The gardens in the park are well manicured. If you are visiting Duluth for the fist time, on your way out of Canal Park (which isn't a park but is what everyone calls the area down by the lift bridge), order lunch from Northern Waters Smokehaus and drive it up to Enger Park (which is actually a park) where you will find picnic tables in beautiful gardens. There is also an accessible scenic overlook where you will want to snap some photos of the city and big lake. For those who still have energy to burn before getting in the car again, you can climb up a few flights of stairs to the top of Enger Tower where there breathtaking panoramic views of the area. In all the times we've visited Duluth, we've never come up to Enger Tower. It was definitely worth the short little hike to get up to the tower. I will say that in winter, you're kind of on your own, so bring good hiking boots and watch your step. It's pretty icy. But the view is spectacular. You get a really unique, almost panoramic view of Duluth. Since we visit here so often, it was a totally unique perspective on the city that we love so much. You could see the lake, obviously, but also pick out lots of little details and landmarks. It was super cool and completely worth visiting. read more

I had my wedding ceremony here. There's a beautiful spot near the trees on the lake side of the park, and there are such lovely gardens in the park. Great for photo ops! It's a cool place to make guests drive to, because there's such a great view coming and going. Plus, it's SUPER cheap (I think we paid $25) and there's ample free parking for your guests. Looks like a watch tower in Duluth. A friend of mine recommended me Enger Tower (and botanical gardens) as a place to sightsee while during my short stay while in Duluth, MN. While the weather was questionable at best (cold, wet, and foggy), I could not see the layout of the landscape of Duluth and Lake Superior to the best of my ability. It was a shame though, as the foggy weather persisted all weekend while I was there, so it was a good scene to be in, although running in it via Grandma's marathon in Duluth was particularly fun and interesting. Driving in it was pretty cool, since we don't get this kind of stuff in Honolulu. Enger observation Tower and botanical gardens is located on W Skyline Drive, overlooking downtown Duluth. There was private parking below and a short hike to the tower above. I arrived there late afternoon on a Friday afternoon, a quick trip on the way back to my hotel after dinner. Free admission no doubt, since it was an abandoned tower - memorialized by an immigrant from Sweden whom was a vital member of the Duluth area community and was responsible for erecting the Enger tower, that bears the name of Bert J Enger, the inspiration for this tower. He was a citizen of Duluth, but originally from Norway, per the plaque on the tower itself. It was erected by the crown prince of Norway in June 15, 1939. The observation tower was a simple tower, which looked more like a prison tower to be honest. Nobody was there, save for some seagulls perched on the top level of the tower itself. I took some photos of the tower, but since it was too cold up there, my iPhone crapped out, so I couldn't take more. Such a shame though. There was about 6 stories to the tower, which there was a spiral staircase going up. The gardens here were really nice, well manicured, and scenic. It was a quick trip here and while I thought this was an interesting way to see Duluth, it wasn't meant to be due to the foggy conditions that weekend. If it weren't so foggy, I would have seen the Duluth landscape and vast vistas of Lake Superior. It wasn't meant to be. Oh well. Support local! B read more

We come to Duluth all the time and you can always see this tower from the lake and it always looks the same, but what a spectacular area they have made all around here. Enger Tower is nestled on the top of the hill in Duluth overlooking all of Duluth, the Harbor and Canal Park. We seemed to have caught the leaves at a good time. The colors were great. There is a short walk up a hill to the tower from the Visitor center and parking lot. I lost track of how many flights of steps there are on the way to the top of the tower. Maybe 5 flights of stairs. The views here are great and you also get an eye-full of scenic views on the drive up and down too. The road is windy and close to the edge so take it easy and enjoy the beauty. read more

This is plenty of parking except for long weekends or peak time over summer. if you're into photography or just want to experience the view stop by. There is no cost for parking or entry. Bathrooms are available near the parking. I have to warn anyone with walking issues that its not an easy climb to the top of the tower for anyone with a disability. read more

Beautiful view, very nice park! I remember when my mother brought me there in 1990 to show me her hometown of Duluth. I thought the stairs were so much and I just whined that there wasn't an elevator. Well now as an adult in my thirties, I can appreciate all of it much more. You drive in, find a parking space in the well-marked lot, and you can enjoy the gardens. Walk a little bit up the hill and there's the tower. Not too many stairs to the top and the view is beautiful! I really appreciated the lights up there if you're in the twilight. Definitely a place to visit when you are in Duluth! Enger Park came up over breakfast at the B&B, so Boyfriend and I set out to find it... for being a tower, we certainly had issues figuring out how to get to it, but we finally made it. Totally worth the journey. Originally, the tower was built for the Prince and Princess of Norway to come have a gander at all of Duluth. And really, you see ALL of Duluth. It's laid out for you like a tiny town and the Lift Bridge just looks like a Barbie bridge from up there. It was nice to sit at the little gazebo in the back part of the park and watch the ships go in and out of the canal. It's also a nice make-out spot, provided you keep an eye out for families (whatever, parents just make out in secret... pffft). I definitely recommend coming up here and climbing to the top of the tower... minus the copious amounts of pigeon poop everywhere. read more

I've had a review of this place sitting in my queue since August, and with the recent cold snap can I be blamed for having some longings for summer? A great viewing point overlooking the city of Duluth. You really get a sense of scale for the city, and a perspective of how San Francisco-ish the streets of Duluth actually get. The tower itself makes a good workout. Man, are those some hard steps to climb up. Each time you clear a floor you'll think "am I at the top yet?" No. You're never at the top. There's always one more floor. The pay-off is worth it, though, when you get to the top and look out over Duluth and Lake Superior. There are definitely worse climbs out there, but those with weak knees/hearts/lungs be forewarned, the steps are a bit steep. Aside from the tower, there's plenty of green space around this park to keep you occupied. There were lots of paths to take a nice walk and I saw a few people walking their dogs. read more

The tower will give you great views of the Lake and the city. It's especially beautiful in the Fall. Enger Tower has an awesome scenic view of Duluth. There's also the tower if you're interested in climbing for a higher view. It's a very beautiful park however, it does get super crowded in the summer. I'd say go early morning or later in the evening if you want to avoid the crowd.
