WILL NOT SHOP HERE AGAIN. Shopped here around thanksgiving in order to buy flowers to beautify our church. Prior to Orthodox Christmas (this Sunday), we decided to stop-in again to see if they had any greenery they were going to dispose of. We just needed a few handfuls of branches, scraps, etc. Initially, we were told by one employee that the manager said everything was gone. "We get rid of everything on January 1," she said. "We don't have anything left." However, several Christmas wreathes were hanging outside, some even near the entrance. We were then told that these were "spoken for" and could not be given away. She went on to say that they have no more greenery available. Walked outside and met a nice young employee, preparing to throw away dozens of Christmas trees. When asked about them, he said: "We are going to throw them away, but there's not enough room in the dumpster." We went back inside and asked about these. We were told that we could have one, but they wanted to charge $10. When asked about the fee, since they were going to be thrown away momentarily, we were told the manager said they could not give anything away. We will NOT shop there again. Not because of the money (we paid once and would have happily paid again), but because of the dishonesty and the attitude. And, as a church, we had planned to do a significant amount of business with them. read more

Pictures in ads are usually taken in perfect conditions and with the best quality of an item someone is selling. I see negative reviews on Yelp or at least below 5 stars. I saw my purchase at a funeral in person and they looked just like the photo on their website and had gotten great comments from many there. So I called English Gardens Dearborn and thanked "Judy" who at first thought it was going to be a complaint but was so relieved to hear me say they were perfect just like the photo . I heard it in her voice that she was so relieved to hear that. And to make someone feel good when they get so many negative calls is golden. This makes someone feel accomplishment in what they are doing and in the end a smile on her face while she is working on your arrangement is quality in more ways the one! Extremely disappointed. I ordered a small simple bouquets of NOT PINK dahlias for a bridal bouquet. I asked that it just be dahlias- NO OTHER flowers or filler. I was given and charged $170.00 for 4 pound mess of PINK dahlias with assorted flowers and greens- extremely unbalanced and actually ugly and unfinished looking with a ribbon clumsily tied around long untrimmed stems. I was told there was no one there to correct it. I had already paid the much inflated charge that would have likely covered several dahlia plants. There was no design or care put into the bouquet. I took it apart and designed a bouquet myself. When I contacted the store the next day, I was informed by the manager that they were going to send me something- which of course did not happen. Bought a lemon tree from this place last week, now covered with spider mites. The first person I spoke with (thankfully) didn't know she wasn't supposed to let me know that they've been having problems...I'm glad to know these didn't come from elsewhere in my house. No no no! This place lacks good service! The female workers are rude and lacking in manners. Waited for some help today and the girl that was socializing with another employee finally stopped to ask me if I had a question. How about " can I help you"? Then went to another chubby girl and she ignored me when I stated " excuse me"! The miserable lady didn't even look up. It's hard to get any help from these women. I've been coming to this place since I was little, it's the only place to come to when you want the best for your garden and home. So when people ask where do I go to get flowers, I do suggest English Gardens. My friend was looking for a florist for her wedding and I suggested a couple of places, including this one. She chose EG for numerous reasons; great customer service, were able to get the color roses she wanted, prices were extremely fair (not like Westborn charging 3 times the amount) and were very accommodating when she added more arrangements a week before. I must say I've seen lots of roses in my life, but these were elegantly beautiful, the color was exactly what she requested. I need to add that she did bring a paint sample of the color she wanted, they nailed it! If you have a special event, keep EG in mind, they do live up to their promise. read more

I have always been a big fan of English Gardens. My mom shopped there going back to when they opened in 1954. I lived out of state nearly 30 years. When I moved back here, I continued to shop at English Gardens, until yesterday. I found out that the Garden Club is really an insurance policy. I have never returned any failed plants to them before, but, unfortunately, two perennial grasses that I purchased last September did not come alive this spring. The store would not take them back unless I purchased the "insurance" - $20 to get $40 back. I'm extremely disappointed and angry. I don't know why I should shop there again unless it's something I wouldn't mind throwing away. read more

Totally forgot it was Mother's Day and I was in a panic-- Dearborn is not a city I know all that way, but I remembered passing by here a few times. I pulled in and it was swamped. I feared the worst-- thinking they wouldn't have anything decent left. They have most of your landscaping/gardening supplies-- perennials, dirt, trees, shrubs, insecticide, bulbs, etc. But they also have beautiful fresh cut flowers-- roses, tulips, lilies.. you name it, they probably have it or can order it. I also know that they are THE place to get holiday assortments, like poinsettias, wreaths, and I think they even do trees. Ok, so back to my dilemma. I was pleasantly surprised that they still had a good selection left. I knew I needed stargazer lilies, and sure enough, they had them. The person behind the counter trimmed them up nicely and even suggested different 'fillers' to put in the bouquet. She wrapped it up nicely, and I was surprised that they had reasonable prices. They even had some cards by the counter, which was convenient. Ultimately, I feel like you get what you pay for. English Gardens is a quality place-- the staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and they have a good selection and variety. Everything is "fresh" and well cared for. Yea, maybe you could get a better deal at the outdoor sections of Home Depot or some other big box store with gardening/landscaping stuff, but what kind of quality and service do you get at those places? read more

Friendly and helpful staff, high-quality and varied selection, and great sales and coupons. Don't miss the Florist, which is in a separate, detached building that can be accessed from the parking lot or from inside the outdoor area between the two stores. In addition to decorative flowers, wind chimes, small fountains, etc. you'll also find a great gift selection with some really beautiful items (handbags, scarves, candles, etc). Also, last I was there, they had a lot of Vera Bradley items for sale. Also be sure to check out their holiday displays in November/December. They always do a fabulous job of setting up really creative themed Christmas tree displays, where you'll find unique and super-charming tree ornaments and other decorations. I'm a fan of this location better than some of the others I have been to. They have pretty much everything you could want for your garden. Their prices are a little on the high side at times but they often send out coupons which helps. Moving around with a cart can be a pain since the rows are small and you get the people with the flatbed carts taking up all the space. I try to frequent English Gardens because they are a Michigan company. But they make it harder and harder. Went there for a live Christmas tree for a nice experience instead of going to Home Depot....prices are never what they are marked. Everything is marked way up so that they can say it is on sale for 40% off. 4 people ahead of me had issues at the register because of items excluded from coupons. Ornaments are excluded from Christmas Decorations...really?! Just make everything a decent price and forget the coupons. Service stinks too. The manager wanted to get away from the problems at check out as fast as he could! I would like to say this was a one time occurrence...but it happens in the summer too. read more

After searching for a couple very hot and crowded hours at Flower day in Eastern Market I ended up here at English gardens. I have been looking for tree between my road and my sidewalk I wanted something deep rooting and flowering , But had no clue what I was looking for I had to directly for the trees. It was a young man back there who was very helpful he seems knowledgeable about all the types of trees and pointed out a few good choices for us. What you can make things better was the trees were 40 percent off! We ended up purchasing a blossiming pear tree for our front yard. The guy that was helping us quickly carried our tree in the back and wrap it for us it was only a couple minute wait before was loaded into our van and ready to go. Don't go into the store unless you want to be ignored. I waited close to 10 minutes to get checked out and was not served. You would think when you have customers waiting you would call for managerial help. It wasn't until I pushed the shopping cart aside and left the store the cashier called for backup. It was obvious the customer and the cashier were too involved with each other to care about others. Very sad you think that the prices the store charges there should be better service. Ten years ago I contracted these folks to do the landscaping around our newly installed pool. Today I just spent a few hours out there pulling weeds. I told the English Gardens "designer" that I wanted something that would be maintenance free. But I guess he just wanted to get the job. Within a week or two after the job was done there were weeds throughout. I called and they sent a kid out to pull some of the weeds but by the following weekend the weeds were back. Another call and the same story. I went to the store but was told I'd need to talk to the designer (who was not available at the time). After weeks more and lots of calls, I gave up. Second time I've been back in about a month, and received really poor service. The first time was for a corsage for prom, it looked nothing like the picture. When I questioned it, I was initially given pushback, but then they did offer to fix it very half heartedly. On my latest visit, I wanted to have some flowers dropped into a container I brought. The lady was very rude in telling me that it would just all fall over, I offered to buy additional flowers or filler, I'm not sure if she heard me. Then she told me she have to charge me an extra $10 to arrange it. I would've paid it, if she hadn't been so rude. I felt like she didn't want to bother fixing the flowers. It's a great store but it is very difficult to shop there it seems like when you do need service you can never find somebody to help you or you must wait for the person ahead of you, it takes longer than most places because you're describing something so different and unique it takes time for the helper to help you. Their pricing is very confusing I wish they would get rid of the coupons and just priced things accordingly. I'm going to pay for quality and service but when prices are so high and you're not getting the service that you deserve for the prices you pay I don't find it fair. I believe it is a great store they just have to figure out the service in value part and I think a lot more people would be happy. Their return policy is fantastic in and they do stand behind all their products. If you want the best experience shopping here make sure you have extra time and you will find it very enjoyable if you were in a hurry this is not the place to go. read more

This location is actually a store with a flower shop across the street. I have ordered flowers from this location multiple times. They are very expensive but given their brand, I trusted them to deliver over other less known flower shops. Given the reason I needed flowers, it was important to get it right (funerals). The last time I ordered, the arrangement card was spelled incorrectly. The roses were poor shape, likely a result of the horrible temperatures. Instead of calling me to say they needed to change the arrangement or reduce the price, they just delivered it. I saw it at the funeral home and was so embarrassed. I will never order from them again. The store portion is not impressive either. I go with my Maadar every spring and summer for flower baskets when she gets a coupon. She always limits herself to one basket from this place because of the price and she can buy double the flowers from other vendors or stores versus Engligh Gardens. read more
