Picked up my annuals from Ruhlig Farm & Gardens this year -- mostly petunias -- and out of the four greenhouses we visited around Metro Detroit, this one easily had the best selection. The greenhouse itself is huge, well organized, and surprisingly easy to shop despite how much they have. I'd honestly love to see what the selection looks like even earlier in May, though planting too early in Michigan always feels a little risky. Prices felt very fair too, especially compared to some of the hanging basket and planter prices at local markets and pop-ups. Definitely a spot I'll be returning to. read more

I took photos of the wonderful tropical displays for my family.My sons family and I checked it out last week. My husband and I returned the next day. Just beautiful and so many plants. We found many heirlooms and hybrids in produce plants. We have been shopping at another large greenhouse around for many years. The quality and variety of plants here are amazing. If you haven't - you should. The farmers market area has been turned into a very chic home store / boutique. One of the best I've seen in quite awhile. I walked in and said "wrap it up"! I could have picked new dishes, art work, pillows (lots of pillows), plants, a nice clutch purse, and even some Lions gear!! I cannot wait for the holidays! I've made a yearly trip here for fall plants for my tiny little balcony and knew the botique was open. But apparently a lot of people do not. Hardly anyone there at 10a on a Saturday. Although I enjoyed having the freedom of seeing everything (do not pass up the garden area) I wondered where everyone was at. Don't miss out. Watch your receipt at RUHLIG's! Both last year & Sunday I was overcharged for plants when checking out at Ruhlig Farms & Gardens LLC's Unfortunately this time I didn't notice til I got home so I immediately called them & took pictures of my plants. I went in today to get my refund & they treated me horribly, like it was my fault! Kept saying it wasn't their fault, it was a computer glitch, questioned me beyond about the purchases, I had to walk Holly the mgr back to begonias to prove their mistake! And they charged me for items I didn't purchase & acted like they didn't believe me. I'll never shop there again. Left & had a hair appt, telling them about it and my stylist said SAME THING happened to her @Ruhligs, they tried to overcharge her when she knew the price and they argued with her til she had to walk them to the dirt to prove it. Never have I had such poor customer service. Had a mix up at Meijer & manager offered me an $20 gc even when I said it wasn't necessary. Very nice. Even after I told Ruhligs it's a 40 minute RT drive to their store. Nothing! So check your receipt before you leave. Thank you. read more

Everything!!! They were do absolutely rude and snooty and condescending towards me and my mom sister in law and my nephew and they mad use switch carts to go back and forth to the connected stores for the boutique part of the florist which necessitated us moving my nephew in and out of the cart which with him being autistic is not always easy. So rude and could not make any exceptions. Overpriced. Made me feel like Julia Robert's in pretty women at the rodeo drive store with the stuck up women . They were also very unhelpful in helping us find a grave blanket and because of this we took our business elsewhere. I would never go back. read more

Ruhlig is a great local spot with reasonable prices and second to none service. We usually hit up Ruhlig's when it's time to start our gardens in the spring. They have a huge selection of flowers, veggies, bushes, trees, etc. They also have composts, manure, and mulch. Even if you're getting a ton, the staff will bring it out on a lifter and help you load your vehicle. What a wonderful greenhouse and nursery! They have a great selection of flowering plants, herbs (in alphabetical order, thank you very much), vegetables and yard plants. Their air plants are all healthy and their displays are attractive. The place is great to go to with the whole family but watch the kids in the Garden Fairy section. Big signs warn against allowing children to the touch the items. A little touchy, but, they'll figure out a way to display the figurines in a friendly manner someday, I'm sure. Their prices are reasonable especially because of the quality of merchandise they have. As mentioned the plants are healthy and, this is important, they don't seem forced. So, what you see is what you will have when you get home. I took away various types of mint, which I am cultivating, and some watercress for hydroponics/aguaponics work I am doing. All in all it's a great place to shop. Parking can be tight - I was there on a rainy day so all was well. Getting into the parking lot heading north is a bit of a problem so, if you are heading north on Telegraph to get there I suggest driving past just a bit to turn around at the next intersection and come back. This place sells some beautiful flowers, shrubs and gardening design and decor. They offer some very unique items that are really nice. The nursery itself is huge and one could spend some time looking at all they have to offer. They also have a little indoor shop with beautiful fresh produce, breads and speciality items that cater to the southeast Michigan area, like Calder's dairy and ice cream as well as McClure's pickles plus so much more. I planted my small garden ( 8 veg. plants ) too early and it was hit by the frost bug, everything died. I should have known better ,I blame it on old age. LOL We have more than a dozen nurseries within 3 miles of our home Ford Rd. / Telegraph area. We went to Ruhlig Farm & gardens in Flat Rock ,MI. We bought our replacement plants ,and more ( lots more ) at a fraction of the cost of the original 8 plants. The selection was staggering , they had plants and flowers, I never knew existed . The Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. A bonus for us was to stop at a nearby Cemetery, across the street , to pay our respects to a Very Dear Friend , Who left us to soon. The quality and selection of the flowers, shrubs, and hanging plants is undeniable. However, their customer service is severely lacking and they do not take accountability when they sell a subpar product. In our case we purchased all of our flowers on a Thursday. Everything but one combination basket looks wonderful. By the next morning half of the flowers in the basket had died. Due to my work schedule, I contacted the manager Saturday evening asking about and exchange and the circumstances. I was assured that with my receipt, I would be able to exchange the basket. Sunday morning my husband returned with the basket and the receipt prepared to make the exchange. There he was met by Wendy, who told him she was the owner. She accused him of deliberately killing half of the plant. He was accused simultaneously of over and underwatering the plant, as well as tipping it over. By looking at it, you can clearly see this was not the case. She refused to stand by the exchange that was promised. I will not be returning, nor will I recommend this nursery to anyone. read more

I went there for the first time today. I picked up 2 cantaloupes because they were 2 for 5.00. Then I looked at all the beautiful flowers. Defiantly over prices for this time of year. That's beside the point. I grabbed some beautiful zinnias. I went to the check out and asked the nice lady about the case of peaches. She said I could find them next door in the produce section. Went over there found the peaches. That cashier was real rude! I told her I found the cantaloupes in the green house and they were 2 for 5.00. She rudely told me they were not the same. I asked if I should go back over there and pay for them. She got an attitude. So I left and will never go back. Too many places with nice people in the area! read more

Last year I ordered plants by curbside pickup due to the pandemic. I called and asked for grape tomato plants. I received cherry tomato plants. They were healthy strong plants but not what I wanted. But I was grateful for the pickup service. This year I decided to go into the store. It's a beautiful place with beautiful plants. I picked plants clearly labeled grape tomatoes. Again, they were strong healthy plants that are doing well in my garden. But they are definitely not grape tomatoes. They're bearing fruit now that is pancake or pillow shaped. I hope they taste good when they ripen. But next year I'll go somewhere else for my plants. read more
