just a few years ago, this was the best place around. I went yesterday, a time when they should be overflowing with healthy plants, they had very limited, not so healthy plants. The annuals and hanging baskets were pretty, a bit pricey but pretty. read more

The plants here are fine, just not as well maintained as in the past. I've decided I won't be returning because they now add a 3% fee for credit card purchases. They chose to accept credit cards, so customers shouldn't be the ones paying for that convenience. read more

Amazing and beautiful greenhouse. Took my 2 year old to see the butterfly house. Left with 4 swallowtail catterpillers to raise and lots of info. Bought four plants to feed them, all pesticide free. I lived like 2 miles from the place most of my life and the first time I'd visited was this past weekend. What have I been missing?? This place is great! I wish I had seen it in the height of flower season (May) but they still had a good number of things available in early July. Perennials, a few annuals, and actually a good number of vegetables all things considering. They weren't as bright and shiny as they would have been at the start of the season but they were still pretty solid. Prices fair and the place is way bigger than I would have imagined, with a few greenhouses stretching out into a woodsy area in the back. They also specialize in aquatic greens along with other backyard pond accouterments like fish and such. One greenhouse in particular is dedicated to a series of tanks with a variety of koi and other fish. Pretty neat. The one thing that surprised me the most was the butterfly house! Yes, there is a butterfly house. The hours are limited (Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday 10 - 2 PM) but if you catch them you can enter and see all the butterfly friendly plants and the butterflies! You can also buy a variety of butterfly friendly plants for your own yard and, if I'm to understand correctly, you can also get some caterpillars and other eggs and such for a small donation to encourage these lovely creatures in your own yard. Pretty neat! Looking forward to visiting at peak flower time. I'm sure it's pretty rad in the fall too. Will update once I find out! read more

Barson's is a great nursery, no matter what you're looking for, but I love going here during late spring/early summer during the height of flower season, just for the sake of walking around and ogling all of the beautiful plants! The staff here is great- there is always someone knowledgeable on hand. They have a great selection of annuals and perennials, and they always seem to have something interesting in stock. I was there looking for a new rose bush to replace one that had died, and found a good mix of classic colors, and some flashy varieties I had never seen before. Barson's also markets itself as the place to go for building a pond. I don't have one myself, but it was fun to walk through to see the pond plants and koi. Also, bonus if you get to pet a cat. Despite the good reviews, the owner of this business is very unprofessional. I mistakenly entered the parking lot of this business using a driveway off the side street according to my GPS. There was no sign stating do not enter or one way. It was impossible to turn the corner at the end of the first lane because a car was blocking that corner. The owner threatened to call the police on me because I refused to let him drive my brand new $60,000 car. If he prohibited parking in the spot on the corner he could easily allow two way traffic for ingress and egress for his parking lot. He was impatient and demanding that I hurry up and get out of the parking lot when my large Pacifica could not make the turn. The last time I observed an older female listen to a similar impatient man demanding she drive according to his directions, she drove her car into the well of the oil change place on Mack Avenue in Grosse Pointe. The business was closed for a month and she sued him for over $10,000.00. I never listen to men who tell me how to drive. As a result, I have never been in an accident in over 54 years. read more

I went to Barson's today and was able to get all of the flowers on my list: begonias, geraniums, impatiens, alyssum, vinca, etc. The plants are healthy and beautiful. I felt the prices were appropriate for the quality. I really appreciated the emphasis they've placed on the safety of their customers and employees. Aisles are marked as one way with signs as well as with arrows on the ground. Masks are required and the spacing in checkout lines is a legitimate 6' distance. First time going. While the selection was nice the customer service was far from good. The young lady that rang me up was nice but then someone came in and started questioning everything the young lady was doing. I had already paid and was packing up everything to carry back to my car and the other person kept questioning how much I was charged. They made me pay for $1.97 because they miss rung a flat I had. Never apologized, never asked if it was ok, never spoke to me directly. Meanwhile they had like a 15 person line all waiting in the rain. Understand people need to keep a business growing but don't embarrass the employee, NOT apologize to the customer for YOUR mistake and hold up a line to argue. Not impressed! read more

My favorite greenhouse for herbs (some I use ornamentally like the variegated sages and yellow oregano), vegetable plants, flowering plants, butterfly plants, and fertilizer (many organic options too). Prices are great and the staff if very helpful. We recently converted a large urn into a water feature and since they do aquatics/pumps/etc, they were able to assist with the set up instructions. It was nice to walk out with everything we needed to make the feature. When it is cold outside, it is also nice to visit the indoor greenhouse with the pond and fountain complete with fish! The most recent addition of the butterfly house is the best yet. Highly recommend Barsons. read more

I discovered Barson's about two years ago while looking for pond supplies. I have found items here that most pond stores do not carry. They are an excellent source of advice should you have any questions. My pond bubbler quit one day after they were closed for the season and the owner made arrangements to open the store saving my fish. This kind of service is not typical, but you wouldn't find it anywhere else. I will always return-great place for ponds, fish, as well as plants of all kinds. read more
