Richer Sounds

When I win the lottery, this place is number three on the visit list (after going to quit my job…read moreand the Ferrari dealership). They've got Hi-Fis to make your eyes water here. Gorgeous sound quality from even some of the cheaper stuff on offer will put you in a bad mood and go home to your I Pod speakers. It's not just about audio here, although that's definitely what they do best. The TV selection is excellent. They're really good at helping to buy you the right thing. I don't know my LCD from my plasma. They were able to explain, without talking down to me, the benefits of each in a way that made sense. Something every shop selling expensive goods needs to be able to do, but a lot can't. Somewhere that deserves having several hundred quid spent at, Richer Sounds offer a better alternative to the big chain warehouses that sell electronics.

As slowly as…read more'bust a rhyme' crept in I also realised that perhaps this place wasn't run by someone called Rich but that the sounds are actually richer. A long standing flagship on Whiteladies rd this is Richer Sounds and this is where the knowledge lies. Many years in the game the more than competent staff know pretty much all there is to know about speakers, amps, sound and all the rest of it. Check online if you want before you come here but they're always full of high-end hardware and absurdly low prices. They'll put you together a terrific bundle and they even have a fully sound proofed demo room to try before you buy. Two thumbs up to Richer Sounds I say.

If you are looking for an average ipod player or TV then I would probably say you can get a better deal in Curry's Digital or online. What Paul Robert's is here for is the high quality products that don't find their way into the high street stores very often. They sell an impressive range of BOSE products and the staff are more than happy for you to mess around for ages without much intention of buying.

They sell much of the very latest kit, from budget prices to high end fat wallet. Their speaker wire and cables are particularly good value, and I would recomend their own brand as being able to stand comparison with much more costly equivalents. They have a sound proofed trial room so that you can hear your prospective purchase before you buy. If you want to get the best of service and attention from the staff, I would suggest that you avoid Saturdays as the shop gets extremely busy then.

This is the most helpful shop in Cardiff if you're after a new stereo, amp, or other audio and…read morevisual goods. They know their kit and their brands, and can offer really sound advice according to your budget. From basics such as speaker cabling through to full sound systems, TVs, DVD players and recorders, they offer good price deals and don't try to push the most expensive products down your throat. They stock a good range of well-known brands and don't talk down to you if you know little about electrical equipment. You might be able to match or even better their prices online, but you just won't be able to benefit from their expertise. If you see something you like, however, grab it there and then - as stock often flies out of the door not long after it arrives.

Once upon a time they were the be all and end all in tape recorders, then they moved on to CD players, and now it's all about Ipod docking stations. Basically, Richer Sounds always manages to have the most modern equipment on the general market, and they always keep with the times (unlike some of the other such stores in the area). Because this is quite a small little place on Cowbridge Road East (an area I remember from my childhood as having seen better times), there is a sense of community spirit; clearly they've managed to build up a nice little network of loyal clientele. But this shop is run by people who know their stuff and are clearly passionate about getting the right products on their shelves, and knowing what brands are best for them and their customers. A good place to consider in the epic hunt for your next electrical item.
