Visited here today... the trails are nice and marked well. A lot of the trails run next to the river which is cool. They also have trails that run deep in the woods. Lots of wildlife especially near and in the rivers. I'll be back for sure only did 6.5 miles out of the 31 possible trail miles read more

My husband and I took our Maltese, Coco, on the Cox Mountain Trail. This was a 4.2 mile hike in and out of the forest that makes up the Eno State River Park. It starts off rather exciting with the suspension bridge which may make you a bit nervous to cross, but after walking on it you feel comfortable knowing it's well made. This trail has a diverse experience of hills, rocks, flat trail and views of the river. Our Maltese was tired and we did have to carry her from time to time, as expected. My husband and I are consistent in our work outs and we each broke a bit of a sweat because of the slight elevation (and the humidity). Speaking of humidity, do being water. I am pleased that such a hike exists near the triangle. It wasn't difficult, but it wasn't easy either. Best part is it's not too far from home. You will see a lot of dogs on this trail as it's dog friendly. There are also many trails to choose from. Just on ours, there was another option that would have shadowed the river on the opposite bank as ours. read more

I went camping the other day, and it was AWESOME even though it was raining. It's beautiful, close by, and really not all that intense - but perfect for some light interaction with nature. The only reason why I'm docking one star is because there seems to be red tape / confusion with the people who work there. They're very nice and well-meaning, and maybe it's just the Southern slowness that's chafing at my Northern tendencies, but I wish they were faster and more efficient. :x Of course, if you're just hiking, there's no problem - just go on ahead. It's really easy to navigate - the trail markers are extremely evident - and it's not very strenuous at all. I really enjoy the Buckquarter Trail which overlooks the river; it's only 1.2 miles, and you get to scramble around on some rocks and take some excellent pictures. :) read more

First time here and it is extremely pretty and fun to scramble around. We walked around until we were tired and headed back to the car. Perfect, Spring day for hiking around and even walked across the river through the water and it was really nice. Beautiful scenery and not too crowded along with being free, why not? read more

I'm not much of an outdoorsy person, but this is a really beautiful place to walk around. I went wearing sandals because I decided to go quite spontaneously, but I would recommend wearing sneakers so you can walk around and explore. I liked looking at the ground while walking around and following the roots of the trees with my eyes. Nature is so breathtaking! There is also a bridge that's cool to walk across. Be careful when getting too close to the river though because sometimes snakes will slither out from rocks. read more

Great place to exercise, get back to nature. Our dogs love it and we go quite often. Never had a bad experience. Several entrances makes it interesting each time, and all four seasons are lovely. Absolutely beautiful park and trails. Came here to get out of the car after a long drive on a road trip to Durham and we did the Cox Mountain trail and while some of the signs are kind of confusing where it meets the Fanny Ford trail, the scenery is incredible. Can't wait to come back. read more

A spectacular place to go hiking just north of Durham. Our favorite spot is at the end of Cole Mill Road. Within a mile, you get to cross a swinging bridge, play on rocks and boulders in the Eno and explore an historical replica of a house from the 1800s. It is a fantastic place to bring kids. read more

Another for The Locals Yelp is Eno State Park off Cole Mill Rd, I just a few years back even existed. My beautiful hippy of mom loved all nature and a parent to two rowdy kids, free wad always nice. She'd pack a picnic, we eat, then splash along in the river off Roxboro Rd, walk the trails, look a the birds and bunnies. It doesn't take money to make beautiful memories! So when I became a mom, I did the same with my daughter. Then a friend and our dogs introduced us to Cole Mill, wow what two different rivers. Cole Mill trails keeps close to the edge of the water with huge rocky outcrops dotted along your way, then calmly pulls you though magic green forest, just magic, with spring blooms popping out. Then huge, thundering tall cliffs with azaleas of pink and white loom you along the rest of your way but dead ends but you get to go back through all that natural beauty I can never get enough of. It has rest room and picnic tables but I to prefer to nosh on the rocks. Many daily trip for a bored teen during summer, hey it's free! read more

There are so many trails on the Eno. I have found trails perfect for the difficulty level I want on the particular day. This is a great place to take your dog but don't forget the bag (yuck!). Venturing into this state park and discovering the wooded trails has made living in Durham a treat. Being so close to such a great park is amazing! I would recommend anyone in the area to pick up a trail map and poke around a bit. read more

Natural splendor is not only for the mountains and the coastline! No sir, here in the piedmont we enjoy the in-between-extremes, the green hills and the rivers carving rock. Eno state park is a beautiful exemplification of this, nestled in between the outskirts of Durham and the Untamed Wilderness(tm), where the whimsical nature enthusiast can fool themselves into thinking the background noise pollution from the highway might be a bubbling brook just barely in earshot. Fun highlights include some old Durham water-works 'modern ruins' (read: rubble) that are fun to play around (if you're sure of foot or have a tetanus shot handy) and lots of ambient wildlife to perturb. I'm up to one snake, a family of deer and a small militia of turtles that I have made uncomfortable enough to run away from me, AND COUNTING! Beware of Poison Ivy when traipsing about, as I was caught unawares. We started in the middle and headed toward the old mill area. 3 snakes later we made it. Snakes like to soak up the sun on the actual trail. The 3rd snake I stepped on with the arch of my foot but he does not appear affected. This is a beautiful windy trail with large canopy and an assortment of pine related trees. I love the alternating rushing water below. Maps are available at each parking trail head. This hike was a morning we took off from a 4 day trip to Durham, NC. Recommend going outdoors which was perfect in early October. read more

Eno River is A-Amazing. It's an easy hike and very close to my home in Durham. There's tons of hikers/lovers/family hiking on the trails and thus very safe. Spring makes the surroundings very pretty. read more

Really beautiful park. Like some other reviews said, no challenging trails. I have done most of my hiking in Oregon with real mountains, so all of the stuff out here is pretty trivial. That being said, the park is very beautiful and in the spring the fishing is pretty great. You will mostly pull out sunfish (some pretty fat ones actually), but some good sized catfish and bass lurk in here too. They are smart (how else would they have gotten so big) so you won't catch them as often. I've hauled in nearly 50 fish in a weekend on the Eno though, so definitely give it a try. I only use a fly rod, so I can't speak to how good the spin casting is out there. I see a lot of people doing it though. Overall, highly recommended for a walk. Tons of wildlife too. Turtles, fish, frogs, deer, and we even saw a river otter once. Oh, and my wife and I got engaged here. It is that pretty. read more

I love Eno River State Park. I try to go at least once a week (rain or shine!) with my dog and we both have a great time each time we go! My favorites are the Cox Mountain trail if I'm feeling like climbing hills and the Holden's Mill trail for scrambling over rocks (and also climbing hills!) It's a great place to go all year round. read more

We love going to Eno river to walk our dog. It's nicely shaded and there is a good mixture of the types and trails and the scenery. The only thing I wish they would add are some more trash cans and maybe some doggy stations. read more

I'll be going back! We just moved to Durham, NC from Atlanta, Georgia and are really excited about exploring more outdoor activities. Eno River State Park was our first venture into the outdoors and we were very pleased! We started out our hike on the Bobbit Hole Trail which I would say is between easy and moderate. We stopped when we reached the river and sat on a stream and ate lunch as we watched a few other people (and dogs) swim in the river. We didn't bring our bathing suits, but we definitely will next time. We hiked a few more trails and saw more people in the river. It was great because it was not over crowded, but had enough people to make you feel comfortable being a new hiker. If you're a new hiker I would definitely recommend Bobbit Hole Trail. read more

Beautiful area tucked away in Durham. Conveniently off of hwy 70. Our dogs love it, and the natural swimming hole is pretty unique in an urban area. Come here, hike (lots of great trails, rarely overcrowded), swim, picnic, or just sit and watch the world go by. read more

Beautiful trails for all levels of hikers. I suggest only going on shorter trails if you take your dog or just going to swim in the river with them. Some of the trails may get long for a pooch but they're very well marked and absolutely beautiful. We had a blast there. read more

Fantastic system of urban hiking trails - some trails hug the river while others climb to ridges and hills within the park. A limited number of camping options by permit/reservation. Wonderful opportunities to glimpse Durham's past - mills, pump station, and settler's cabins. Great fishing in the Spring, Summer, and Fall. read more

We went for a hike by the river this weekend. The trails were wide and clear in some areas and overgrown in others, but fun to navigate little creeks and such. I'd like to explore more of it for sure, but it's great that it's just minutes from everything. We loved the easter egg hunt they did in the spring, too. Our dogs absolutely love this park. We are so fortunate to have such easy access from Raleigh, Durham and Hillsborough.

Long time hiker of Umstead and decided to spice it up with a little variety, hence a trip to Eno. Decided to try Eno solely based on Yelp reviews, and for the most part was happy with my decision. 30 minute drive from Cary, but on the weekend I did not encounter traffic. Parked in the main lot, and picked up a trail map. Hiked Buckquarter along the river complete with rapids and swimming areas. Trail eventually wandered back into the woods looping back after 1.5 miles traversed. We continued along the river, across a cool suspension bridge, hiking for an additional 2.5 miles. Experience was enjoyable, the Park has alot to offer, just disappointed in Hikers who littered the path with their children's diapers! Plan to go back and complete the Cox loop. read more

I freakin' LOVE the Eno. Many people had recommended I check it out as someone who likes hiking, and I can't believe it took me 3 months to do it! My friend and I went on a Fall day in October, and it was beautifulllll. We did the Buckquarter Creek trail, which was a fairly easy 1.5 mile loop through very pretty woods. We also did the Holden Mill trail (2.6 miles), which had lovely views of the river, as well as a combo of woods and a grassy field along the way. Before you hit the intersection of these 2 trails by a bridge, there is also a rocky area where you can sit/stand and watch the rapids. It was such a refreshing hike, and a good work out! I will be returning REGULARLY. Plus, free parking ftw! read more

This is a great place for a family to spend some good quality time outdoors. Ample picnic space, lots of trails, plenty of water if you want to take a quick dip. Bathrooms were cleaned, trails were well maintained, signage was good. And it's all free (except camping). My family will definite return often. read more
