I recently moved to Arlington, VA from Maryland and for months I've looked everywhere for a hair…read morestylist. For context the stylist I've been to for years is based in Baltimore and with how traffic can get I can't justify spending 40% of my saturday going to Baltimore to get my hair done. So I began the search looking for a new hairstyle salon. Tried Alexandria, Springfield, even Fairfax. But none have provided what I need and certainly not justifiable of the price it commanded. So I tried HairSocial because I found it on Google and I liked I can book online. My hair appointment consists of the following: Wash, Blow Dry, and an undercut. Sometimes I'll get it flat-ironed depending on the occasion. So I booked 4 days in advance and when I arrived for my appointment I had to wait 20 mins after my actual time (for context it was a Sunday afternoon and no one else was in the shop except for one customer). When I was seated I was only given a haircut and nothing else despite asking for a hair wash and a blowout. Considering I had to put a downpayment online to book the appointment I naturally felt bamboozled. They offered to do what I originally asked but they said I had to wait an hour. I didn't have time as I had a family dinner I had to attend so I decided to go home and wash my own hair. Before I left, the front desk offered to refund me on my card and then said no and could only offer me a credit. The credit was tied to my account yet the credit isn't available when you book online you can only access the credit if you call to set up an appointment. Extremely disappointed but the stylist did a great job with my haircut. I'm just disappointed that I didn't get what I paid for at a reasonable time. Thankfully the management of the loc in Tysons Corner set things right and as a result despite this location being closer to me I go out of my way to visit the HairSocial in Tyson's Corner (that review will be coming shortly).

I only ever do simple cuts, nothing fancy. My haircut, done by Anderson (a level 3 stylist), is objectively good. The skill was there. But it's definitely shorter than I wanted it. Went in for a lob, came out with an asymmetrical bob...Honestly I was panicking while he was drying it because it was starting to look like Lord Farquaad from Shrek. I asked if he could style it like in the reference pictures I showed (simple waves, to reduce Farquaad-ness). He tried to do it with the brush/dryer, which obviously wasn't working, and didn't want to use a flatiron. So I just suffered through scalding heat on my scalp and hair pulling. I got told I don't have curly hair. I got told I don't have frizzy hair. I, in fact, have both of those. Some other minor things: 1. When I got home I had some hair that was noticeably longer than the rest, like it never got cut. So...I had to do it. Just a few strands, but normally stylists check for that when your hair is dry. 2. I almost never use heat on my hair, so I asked for recs and mentioned a specific brand doesn't work for me. He immediately said he loves that brand. I said yeah...but it doesn't work for me. Anything else? "Any salon brand." Cool. Not helpful. 3. Asked for something at the end to tame the pieces that were sticking out (again, I have frizzy hair). He looked...confused? Smoothing as a last step has been standard at every other place I've been to. There is nothing in the whole salon like that? Also, my introvert-self just wants to go somewhere where I don't have to be engaged in conversation the whole time. Anyway. Won't go back, my hunt continues.

My hair is naturally brown, but I have grays coming in, which makes coloring even trickier because I need gray coverage while still keeping dimensional highlights that look natural. Heart took the time to really understand my hair and, over the years, developed the perfect formula for me. She somehow manages to cover the grays beautifully without it looking harsh or obvious as it grows out, while also keeping my highlights dimensional and free of the brassy/orange tones. What's even more impressive is how much healthier my hair has become since seeing her. She's incredibly knowledgeable about hair health and has taught me so much about how to properly care for my hair over the years. My mom also goes to her and has learned a lot from her as well. One thing I really appreciate is that the client never feels pressured to buy products or upsold on things you don't need. She genuinely loves what she does and truly cares about helping people understand and care for their hair. The biggest game changer for me has been her Hair Blessings leave-in conditioning spray. It has genuinely helped heal both my hair and my daughter's hair, and my hair has never been healthier or more manageable. After more than a decade as her client, I can confidently say Heart is exceptionally talented at both color, cut and hair care.

And Walter is also amazing & they were super friendly. I had a great time getting my hair done. I have black hair and wanted to lighten my hair & color ("rose gold" to be exact with a bit more pink tint to it). Because my hair is very dark, to get it really light it would've taken another session on another day but Daniel did his best to lighten it as much as possible and gave it a beautiful rose gold color to my hair. And turned out so pretty!! Daniel will give you his honest opinion and explain to you why it will work or why it will not work. And he will give hundred and ten percent to make you look glamorous. I will go back to Daniel for all my hair needs.

Daniel's demeaner was completely short and unwelcoming the entire time. I arrived for my consultation at 6pm to the building doors being locked, and Daniel acted as if it was my fault/I was severely inconveniencing him for coming down to open them for me. I would've happily came earlier if I knew/was notified of that. When I entered the salon, it was just messy and looked gross to be in. The decor is weird and there was a door that said "Tattoo" right in the sitting area? Daniel rushed around without bothering to acknowledge my presense. His assistant/other guy in the salon was so nice and outgoing, but otherwise it was a total cold shoulder and I felt burdensome to him to be there. I will give Daniel credit that he is knowledgable in his craft and he gave feedback based on what I was discussing with him. However, the lack of "salon side manner" will not have me coming again, and I cancelled my appointment.

I decided to go ahead and book an appointment with her since I wanted to go lighter for Spring. At the appointment, I showed Megan the picture of the color I want from her IG page (a caramel brown color). I also explained that my hair has gotten really brassy since I last dyed it red in the Fall. She then suggested to go for a cooler tone to cancel out the brassiness and prevent it from going brassy in the future. We then decided to go with an ashy blonde color, which is pretty popular nowadays. I've always wanted to try something different with my hair so I thought why not! Megan then proceeded to meticulously hand-paint my hair. I liked that she asked if I wanted color on my bangs and checked which way I parted my hair so that she could put more color on that side. I've never gotten asked these questions before but they're really important to how the color will frame your face! At the end of the appointment, she even curled my hair so I can see the different dimensions of the balayage. I was really impressed with how my hair turned out, no more brassiness! I highly recommend Megan if you're looking for some natural-looking balayage for your hair, whether it's your first time or 5th time!

I've been coming to this salon for decades now, and several of the original stylists are still here. They've gotten some great staff for the front desk, which for a long time was my only complaint. They recently relocated next to the Paul Mitchell Salon, and they got waaaay better WiFi!!! They're also located directly across from a pretty solid place that does waxing, threading, gel and regular mani-pedis. With the location change, I am doing alllll my maintenance in one stop!! Pictures are worth a thousand words, but the last time I came to her for a cut, Tev was armed and ready with photos of the latest trend she selected specifically for me, to keep my look updated and fabulous. Tev is always fresh and talented with a discerning sense of style. She regularly travels across the country for workshops, events, conventions, etc, either for an award she's won, or a unique opportunity for her to learn a the next fashion forward color techniques... She also doubles as my therapist and BFF, which is exactly what I need my hairstylist to be #selfcare. That being said, I cannot live without my stylist. We've already talked conversationally about retirement, and I'm working on us moving to the same place, so she can do my hair for everrrrrr.... Shoutout to Faery and Trin, who are also amazing and I highly recommend!!! I definitely encourage you to find the therapist who is right for you. I'm confident they will work at Bubbles in Tyson's!

We looked at pictures and she suggested being more conservative on the cut and then we could adjust and make it shorter at the end if needed. After that everything went downhill. After washing and toning I was brought back the chair. My highlights are very orange and striped. No root smudge was applied which made the highlights look harsh. My stylist then turned me away from the mirror while she rough dried my hair without product then curled my hair all while I was turned away. She then proudly turned me like it was a reveal. I was so shocked I couldn't speak. My color was supposed to be a dimensional blonde but instead was a brassy reddish yellow stripes. The cut was not what we discussed at all. It was longer in the back and shorter in the front. I asked her to straighten my hair so we could discuss the length and shape. At this point her next client came in and was sat in front of her station. I felt like we were now being rushed. She again began to apply heat to my hair with no product and roughly ran the straightener through my hair making my hair look like a broom. She cut more off the back and said I was done. She put some hair product on my hair as I was leaving. I honestly was in such shock I could barely communicate my feelings. I just grabbed my things and left. This is not the place to go if you want a soft dimensional balayage or highlight. I can't believe I paid over $450 and now am frantically looking for someone to fix my hair. I've had two local stylists tell me I need a color correction. My advice is research each stylists Instagram account and choose accordingly.
