I arrived at Rodi Salon this morning and while I was waiting to check in one of the stylists looked me up and down like a high school mean girl. When I tried to check in the receptionist told me that I didn't have an appointment. You can see that I posted my confirmation email below that says see you soon. The receptionist insisted that I needed to reply to that email. She keep trying to make me come around the desk to see what her email said and that it was my fault that I didn't respond. She was getting very snippy at this point and raising her voice. I told her that it only mattered what the customer received. I have never booked an appointment online, received a confirmation email, and then been berated for not confirming the confirmation email, and then having my appointment cancelled. Came for a cut and color with Emma. I have very dark (black) hair that's thick and voluminous. With the warmer weather I want to cut it thinner, but every time I go somewhere they try to do high layers which just makes my shoulder length hair look like a lob. Emma listened to what I want and was able to trim my hair (1 inch) and thin it out as needed so that I can have light and airy. My hair finally feels like it can move! Emma also very patiently put SO many foils in my hair for a nice natural balayage. I had told her I want something low maintenance that won't have me screaming for a touch up in 6-8 weeks (did I mention my hair also grows very fast?) and preferably something lighter but not too light (I also just know my hair won't lift that quickly). 4 hours later I have what I wanted! Rodi came by and said hello. Everyone at the salon was very friendly and pleasant. Would definitely return (maybe to go lighter? Maybe for toning? Maybe for another great haircut). Nerves. Anxiety. Am I about to throw up? The thoughts that go through your head when trying to find a new hair person are not right. On a whim, I decided to call up the first salon that popped up in my search while coming home from work. I read a bunch of reviews and thought, "ok. What's the worst that can happen?" I made an appointment over the phone and asked the woman at the receiving end to "please put me with someone good." And her response was, "oh. They're all really good here." I rolled my eyes. Upon entering. I was greeted by the staff who are all so nice. Service industry... ugh. Here we go... With sweaty palms and a chill over my body, I promptly did as was asked of me and changed into my robe. I was then greeted by a nice, young man, who introduced himself to me as Firas. Oh boy. You mean to tell me a man is going to do my hair? He looked at my hair, we chatted a bit about what I was looking for... and then he gets the owner, Rodi, involved... we discussed a plan and I, very reluctantly, agreed. The next 60 mins or so I could tell I was in great hands. Firas was calm, efficient, focused in on his craft, delegated tasks to other staff members, and then told me he's leaving me for 30 minutes as my hair processed. 30 minutes go by and in comes Mimi to wash my hair. Wonderful! So sweet and relaxing. Back to Firas for a hair cut. As soon as I sat down he says, "Good job, Firas!" I started laughing. He cut my hair, blow dried it and then the magic started slowly coming to light! My overly processed, dry, damaged hair was looking like it had life once again. Shiny. Voluminous. Beautifully blended. Just in time for summer. I am so grateful I called and was connected with Firas! Thank you, Mimi, Rodi, and Firas for your work! The staff are incredibly polite, sweet, and accommodating. My hairstylist, Yum, was an absolute sweetheart. Probably one of the worst experiences I've had at a salon. First time customer at this salon and I will never be back. The shampoo was so quick and she was very rough, she also didn't put conditioner in my hair. My stylist (I can't remember her name, started with a J) just didn't seem to know what she was doing. I tried to show her some pictures of what I wanted but she barely took the time to look at them. I kept telling her I have very fine/thin hair so I need layers so my hair has some body/volume to it. She barely cut any layers in my hair, had to ask her to cut more once she dried my hair and still can't tell she did anything. Also had her cut some face framing bangs/pieces and the hair is not even on both sides. She didn't check to make sure they were even while I was in the chair and I didn't realize it until I got home and started inspecting my hair closer. She attempted to blow out my hair but clearly didn't know what she was doing. She was very rough and kept hitting my face with the brush. My hair would get caught in the brush and she would just yank on it. I can't imagine the amount of hair I lost because of all the yanking. Had to ask her to restyle my face framing pieces because she was rotating the brush the wrong way while blow drying. For a haircut that costs $90 you'd think at least your stylist would know how to blowout hair. She ended up using a straightener to add some waves because the blowout was a fail. She said the curls would help me see the layers but it did not. Basically looks like I just got face framing pieces cut. read more

I have been going to the same hair stylist for almost 7 years (I have thick, maybe 3b curls, Middle Eastern/Indian descent) and was nervous about trying someone new. I learned about Rodi Salon's focus on culry hair and went with Sat after the rave reviews. The total hair cut was around $125 and included a consultantation, cut, diffuser dry and styling education. Sat really helped me understand the products and techniques I needed to achieve maximum curl richness. My hair feels and looks healthier than ever, and my curls are finally curling the way it naturally should. I prefer tons of volume to round my face, and Sat gave me tons of layers to help achieve the look. Maryam at Rodi Salon is fantastic. She gave me a precision haircut, highlights, and base color. I have had some bad visits at other salons previously and she did a great job of correcting my hair. Standouts about Maryam are as follows: She is the only stylist in NOVA or DC that I have called or visited that actually listened to what I wanted done with my hair (instead of telling me what she will do despite my wishes.) She is probably the youngest stylist in the salon and her ability rivals or exceeds stylists twice her age. If you want a stylist that will give you the hair you want, she can do it. Why this visit was extra great: -Safety precautions were above & beyond the standards set forth by VA. Temperature taken at the door. Signage on the door with instructions. After my wife went to Rodi's salon, the color was much darker than she desired. We called back and they got us an appointment within half an hour to get a consultation. After consulting with Rodi, who stayed late to see us, we made a follow-up appointment to get the excess color taken out. The team spent hours to achieve just the right color and then refused to take any money for fixing it. Everyone was so professional and kind, especially Rodi himself. Sharbel is the man, he's been awesome every time I've been. I'm biracial, and have thick curly hair with several different curl patterns. He's never made me feel like my hair was hard to deal with, just helped me embrace what I've got and how to achieve what I'm hoping for.
