I recently moved to Arlington, VA from Maryland and for months I've looked everywhere for a hair stylist. For context the stylist I've been to for years is based in Baltimore and with how traffic can get I can't justify spending 40% of my saturday going to Baltimore to get my hair done. So I began the search looking for a new hairstyle salon. Tried Alexandria, Springfield, even Fairfax. But none have provided what I need and certainly not justifiable of the price it commanded. So I tried HairSocial because I found it on Google and I liked I can book online. My hair appointment consists of the following: Wash, Blow Dry, and an undercut. Sometimes I'll get it flat-ironed depending on the occasion. So I booked 4 days in advance and when I arrived for my appointment I had to wait 20 mins after my actual time (for context it was a Sunday afternoon and no one else was in the shop except for one customer). When I was seated I was only given a haircut and nothing else despite asking for a hair wash and a blowout. Considering I had to put a downpayment online to book the appointment I naturally felt bamboozled. They offered to do what I originally asked but they said I had to wait an hour. I didn't have time as I had a family dinner I had to attend so I decided to go home and wash my own hair. Before I left, the front desk offered to refund me on my card and then said no and could only offer me a credit. The credit was tied to my account yet the credit isn't available when you book online you can only access the credit if you call to set up an appointment. Extremely disappointed but the stylist did a great job with my haircut. I'm just disappointed that I didn't get what I paid for at a reasonable time. Thankfully the management of the loc in Tysons Corner set things right and as a result despite this location being closer to me I go out of my way to visit the HairSocial in Tyson's Corner (that review will be coming shortly). read more

This was my first time getting a professional cut and style from a nice salon and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I really like how their hair washing seats are more angled upright so you're not breaking your neck when they wash your hair. I felt very comfortable and Jackie listened to all of my requests. The way she styled my hair afterwards is something I struggle to achieve on my own and she gave me some tips. Hope to come back soon! The owner continuously responds with lies to the review I left, in case people want more information, she completely broke the rules of yelp by offering money off to take off my review - I did try to get 2 other stylists to fix it (they were incredibly apologetic about the mistake Maria made) and they made it red instead of black - the two colors I specifically said I did not want my hair to be. I asked them to fix it and they refused to do anymore and said nothing else could be done. So the entire post she made is a lie. I left the salon telling them that I would pay when a manager called me because I refused to be blackmailed about my review and refused to pay the whole fee when I now have to go elsewhere for them to fix this mess. They wouldn't put her on so I left and said she had my number. I immediately responded to her about working out a payment so she wants to paint me as a criminal when she is completely the one in the wrong. I'm sure customers are smart enough to see through this. Go somewhere else. I have already been reached out by previous customers who said the same thing happened to them - they were blackmailed and deleted their review. I refuse to. I went to another salon (a great one) and they were appalled at the disaster that this place caused. They noticed that my scalp was incredibly destroyed by the bleach they put on to try and make it lighter and they couldn't believe a salon would do this, especially to someone pregnant. Rylee did an excellent job on my highlights and haircut. She gave me guidance on what would look best since I wanted to drastically change my hairstyle. She was honest and answered all of my questions. My hair came out better than I could have ever imagined. In addition, she's very personable. This review is for NATALIE. I hardly do reviews but this was absolutely ridiculous. I came in for partial highlights with toner + haircut. Natalie had the audacity to charge me over $500. This was $100 more than what was quoted online. She did NOT inform me of the price difference beforehand. She also over-bleached my hair and had to tone it twice. When I got home, I noticed my split ends were even more damaged than before I walked into the salon. Even more frustrating, when they rang me up at check out, my account showed a "store credit" of $200 so I was only charged $300 the day of - little did I know the "store credit" was the deposit I put down when I made the reservation. I did not realize I paid nearly $600 (after tips) for coloring and a haircut. Only positive was she did a good job with the cut, but worthless considering I need to get another cut to get rid of the damage she did to my hair. When I contacted the store manager, they refused to refund the difference between what I was quoted and what was charged. read more

I had an awesome experience with Cheyenne! I came in for a haircut with some reference pictures and she was more than willing to make it happen! She made sure I was comfortable every step of the process and let me know what she was thinking in terms of bangs and layering. When she finished the initial cut I asked her if it would be possible to thin out some of the layers to change the overall shape and she was more than willing to go with it. She was super accommodating with all of my requests and I went out really happy with my cut! The overall vibe of the salon was great too, people were always making sure the stations were clean and were sweeping the hair off the floors. The manager even stopped by to check in on my haircut and was so sweet! I highly highly recommend HairSocial and I will definitely going back for my next cut! read more

I am getting chemo soon and wanted to get a big chop before I lose my hair. A well known DC Salon overbooked a time I was looking for and I was scrambling to find a place to get my hair cut. Thank god I stumbled on Zara at HairSocial. Not only is she clearly an expert level skilled hairstylist, but she is so kind and a literal angel sent from the heavens (and I'm agnostic lol). HairSocial is my new go to spot in NoVA for my color & cut! I have been struggling to find a consistent salon since relocating to the area but Julie at HairSocial made my dreams come true yesterday! I came in with really old partial balayage and essentially 3 different chunky hair colors. Julie was able to make my base darker all over and add baby lights all over my hair that turned out stunning. She was efficient, so kind, and always checked in to make sure I liked where things were going. I'm going back in a few weeks to get extensions put in ad well. I would give them 0 stars if I could! OMG! I don't know where to even begin!! I went to the salon for a toning. Zara the "stylist" insisted i do baby lights. She quoted me at $477!! I said to her are you sure you can achieve the look ( showed her an inspo photo), she said CONFIDENTLY yes. Almost four hours later... IN ALL HONESTY and no exaggeration, my hair was bright blonde at the roots and ginger red from my ears down. But this is not the worst part.. the worst part is that i literally lost 1/3 of my hair from her terrible bleach job! I got bangs involuntarily due to the bleach that the "stylist " Zara left on my hair. At this point I didn't even want the money back, my hair was left atrocious! I consulted with Zara the stylist and she told me she was going to do "baby lights"... 4 hours later.. this is the best she could achieve with "expensive bleach." The breakage... i wanted to cry..literally lost 1/3 of my hair. I asked her if she could achieve results and she confidently said "yes!" They offered to fix it but i said HELLO NO! I had such a great experience at Hair Social! For context, a month ago I got balayage at another place that I thought I trusted. I asked for a sun kissed, subtle sombré / balayage for summer, and they ended up over-highlighting my dark brown hair which caused damage in some places. I went for a simple blowout and this is what they did. I've never seen my hair look so terrible. They were not apologetic and made me wait and argue for 20 min before refunding this. Mistakes happen, but I was really shocked at how unprofessionally they handled it. I took time out of my day for self care before an important event and they completely wasted my time and energy and didn't even say sorry. They were just defensive and made excuses, trying to blame me. They claimed my stylist struggled because I rushed her; all I'd done is ask how much longer at one point since I'd been there so long. Then they blamed the products I'd asked to put in my hair... she poured 3 different products in and when I asked if any had heat protectant, she said no and asked if I wanted one. I have naturally dark brown hair and when I came to her for the first time, it had been processed blonde and wasn't looking great. She said might take a few sessions to get it to the blonde I wanted but truthfully, I was more than satisfied with the first session. She made my hair look amazing within the first session and I've never looked back. I had Negin for my cut a few days ago and everything was fine up until I showed her a picture of the cut I wanted. I had mentioned something along the lines of "long layers", and it seems like that's what stuck, because she didn't take the time to look at the actual picture I showed her, which was a bit more complex than I could explain. I didn't really appreciate that she didn't take the time to look at it, but I figured "long layers" wasn't hard to mess up. Instead, I got these very choppy layers that didn't blend together and this short shelf-like layer that went halfway around my head, leaving some weirdly short strands in the back. It looks passable when styled, but once I went home and washed it the next day the choppy strands showed. Very disappointed considering all the good reviews I saw on this place, but I plan on trying to come back and get it fixed by someone else. Update: The manager of the place contacted me and was able to get me a new appointment the next day with Nazzy. She did a wonderful job and was very understanding and considerate. Seriously love the staffs at the front desk who have been accommodating to my schedule and Yejee who's awesome and makes the whole experience comfortable and great. I asked to get my hair dyed and she explained what she was going to do and what color it would be. Honestly, Asians like me have really dark black hair and it can be a bit tricky to go lighter lol. However, Yejee explained the color chart with the assistance of another staff and it made me feel very appreciative of her efforts and I like how my hair turned out. Probably the worst haircut I've gotten in years. I get the same simple cut every time, face framing and long layers. The length isn't the issue, but the choppiness of the layers. It looks absolutely horrendous unstyled but styled isn't that much better. My hair was long and gorgeous before and now I probably have to wait a year until it's a decent length to hide the amateur layers. The stylist said I can come back the next day if I wasn't happy but the answer is not to chop off more than she has. Yes, my haircut was almost 2 months ago and I still hate it every time I look at it. I was debating on writing this review but I hope I could save someone from an awful haircut. And she's fun to talk to! Her price range is fair!! Most of the pretty pictures you see here on Yelp and google for hair social is LIAN!! I would recommend all friends and family!! Her starting price at the moment is $370 but honestly you get what you pay for. She has a license and she has an amazing history at famous hair places. I highly reccomend her! Her IG page is lathehair. She is the freakin nicest and doesn't give off snooty vibes like most places that I used to go to. The store is nice, clean, in a high end neighborhood in Tyson's area. I didn't realize it when i was at the salon, but when going home i took a closer look at my hair and i was super unsatisfied. I asked Negin for long layers and a V shape. My college-aged daughter recently had a cut by Zara at Hairsocial. We had been there before but not for a few years. We are not regulars, so we decided to choose a stylist who had an open appointment. The cut is good, not great. What surprised me was the stylist spent all of 10 minutes talking about her style and cutting her hair. She was blowing it dry within minutes of arriving. It all felt very rushed and way too fast for $75. The appointment was at 9 am, we were paid and out of there by 9:20 am. I feel like an actual human who doesn't just have to toss her unruly locks up in a mombun every single minute of the day. I was able to book an appointment right here on Yelp using the request an appointment feature. The owner was super responsive even though I submitted my request at night, and I had something booked for the next day before I went to bed! My hair stylist was lovely, friendly, and did a great job. I have pretty serious postpartum hair loss happening right now, so my hair is really thin, plus the bottom half was extra damaged from years of bleaching and dyeing. She helped coax some life back into my strands with a fantastic shampoo and head massage, and then cut some nice medium-long layers in and made me feel human again! I am absolutely amazed by what a fabulous haircut l got at HairSocial. My hairstylist ZARA, was not only so sweet and pleasant, but an absolute magician. She was actually not the stylist l initially booked, but l ended up getting her and I am so happy l did! She made sure l was comfortable with the style she had in mind for me and asked me about how long l would like to keep my hair. She pointed out the uneven job from previous stylist (at a different place) that l was aware of and that l thought was impossible to fix. After washing my hair at home, l still think Zara did a phenomenal job. I can style it the way l want and it looks so much healthier and fuller than before.
