I sent another email asking for an update a week later. Two days pass and I finally received an email saying to text our flight details and home address to him. Ohm, no. I replied that I preferred email and wanted a quote in-writing. Two days later, I finally received the quote via email and instructions to text our flight and house details. I sent the details via text, but again, no response for 4 days. I asked again: are we confirmed? Two days later, I finally received a text confirmation of our trip details and a note saying oh, by the way, I am adding another $50 to the quote due to "traffic". Dude, you knew our flight times from the beginning. If you don't want the business - just say so. Don't try to scam people. Do not use this service. His lack of response, shady business practices and jacking up prices after you already receive a quote is shady at best. I don't even trust him to show up for the trip at this point. Cancelled.

Our group of four did the 4 hour 11:00 AM in 2 two-person kayak on a beautiful sunny day. We all…read morehave kayaked many times over the years, but never the Dowajiac River. Contrary to the first review, The guys working there were friendly and offered good advice (even when we asked about some other kayak venues around the state) The business site is rustic but loaded with fine river worthy kayaks (and canoes). We drove our truck out to the 4 hour destination and they happily drove us back (for a reasonable fee). We took a cooler full of drinks and granola bars. and I brought my phone to take photos. The river was moving a day after some heavy rain, but the sun was shining. The river is narrow and somewhat winding and offered plenty of overturned trees and obstacles made the ride fun to navigate, but no rapids or danger. I recommend kayaks, the guys we saw in canoes were struggling to maneuver at times, but it's totally fine either way. This would not be a fun river to go tubing as you'd be stuck in branches, muck, spiderwebs constantly. The trees overhang the river with sun bleeding through to provide a beautiful aesthetic. The ride was shady enough that I didn't require sunscreen. I didn't have any issues with mosquitoes either. The banks were very mucky and almost always too steep to get out and walk, plus I think most of the river was off privately owned farm land.. It made for some advanced impromptu riverbank bathroom breaks due to the beverages, but that's all part of the fun, right? There was a nice grassy spot on the final quarter of the ride near an overpass that we saw people having a picnic. We saw a muskrat, king fisher, large river frogs, and several species of turtles. We passed a few friendly people on our ride (it was Sunday of labor day weekend), but it was mostly desolate and quiet. Our moment of excitement came when we approached a nearly impassable part with a couple of fallen trees. Our kayak was temporarily hung up but our friends didn't have time to avoid us and they tipped/submerged their boat and ours tipped and sunk in the reaction. It was about 3 feet of water, the current was strong but not overpowering. I somehow miraculously kept my phone above water while the rest of my body was dumped in. We also somehow recovered the life jackets/paddles/boats/cooler/car keys. All we lost was a coozie, pair of sunglasses, a t-shirt, and our pride. After our refreshing dip, we tipped the water out of the boats and were back on the river in no time. Our exit location was easy to find by a well marked overpass. We had a great time, a very nice afternoon well spent.

At first it was an hour and half for a part to show up, then it was texts sent we have alternate transportation (which showed up but was not for everyone). Then it was we need to disconnect the cars that need the part but will leave soon. Now we need a new crew. Been on the train for 12 hours now. Still not in Chicago. No idea if we will ever leave. Worst communication ever. No idea if anyone is telling the truth because everything we have been told has been wrong if they communicate which they mostly don't. I do NOT recommend this campground ! The owner can be rude,…read moreto all ages of people. The owner is a heavy drinker, and doesn't care how or what he says to his campers. This is a very clicky park, most campers are very nice. As a seasonal camper you must be a drinking buddy of the owner, or stay on his good side, or he will kick you out on the spot. Had him sell our park model for us, thinking he would respect our property. WRONG !! He drug troves of people through our trailer, not what was agreed upon. He sold our park model to a friend, who was also a heavy drinker. He took the word of the other drunk that we had agreed upon a turn key purchase. It was not agreed upon the way it went down. While we were moving out he got angry with us, took his friends side, and told us " TO NEVER COME BACK". We NEVER gave him ANY issues, and always respected each park rule, and respected each camper. We were treated very unfairly. Will not ever recommend this campground to anyone, because a drunk is always right.

The trip takes just under two hours and departs each day from the station (next to Silver Beach Pizza) at 8:09am arriving around 9am CST (yes, don't forget about the time difference gaining an hour when coming from EST). Pro-tip: install the mobile app for a digital ticket and to keep up to date on whether your train has been delayed. It's mostly been on time for me and I don't mind delays since things happen + it's still way better than driving. However, if you have something important the next day or in the early morning, it might be better to come in the previous day or find a transportation alternative. The cabins are extremely comfortable. Sits are in pairs so you don't have to worry about middle seats. There's nearly 40" of legroom, leaving plenty of space, even for folks about 6' like myself. Huge shoutout to conductors Steve and Warren, as well as Jamie in the cafe cart. They've all been infinitely welcoming and professional. Enjoy and safe travels, everyone! All aboard!
