My husband and his father are traveling to Roakoke, VA. They were almost there last night when they were involved in a wreck which damaged my father in law's truck. They were able to make it to a hotel last night in Bristol, VA, praise God. This morning, I get a text from my husband that they are going to rent a truck from Enterprise Rent-A-Car, they just need a credit card but my husband doesn't carry his card with him, we use mine when we need it. I said no problem, I'll give them the info over the phone; they won't do that. I said I'll pay for it online; that wasn't acceptable either. I then suggested that my husband's check card is a VISA, use it as a credit card; they couldn't do that either. I decided to call and talk to them to figure out what we can do. I spoke with Seth and explained to him that I needed help to figure out how to get my husband and his father on the road, I am six months pregnant and don't need to be stressing out because it's not good for me or the baby. I walk through the possible options above and ask him how we can make one work; he refuses. If he takes my credit card over the phone, it could be fraud. If I make the reservation online, the credit card has to be there in person, a picture of the card and my ID isn't good enough to prevent fraud. They cannot use the VISA check card because my husband and father in law are not local. Um, excuse me? You won't help them because they're not from around there? At this point, I'm like okay, what can we do. There is nothing they can do Seth tells me, he'll give them a ride to a competitor to see if someone else will help. This is seriously what he told me. When I called him out on leaving my husband and father in law stranded, he said oh, we'll give them a ride. I said no, you're leaving them without a vehicle in a town over a thousand miles from home. He said well there's nothing I can do, it's corporate policy. I told him that it wasn't corporate policy at this point, this is human being to human being, he is refusing to help people out who are standing right in front of him despite the fact that I sat on hold and listened to a recording telling me all about how Enterprise values their customer service and they go above and beyond and on and on. I also had to point out the fact that they were worried about the type of people they would encounter on this trip and I reassured them and said people are nice, don't worry about it and here this office is refusing to help them because they're not from around there. Now don't get me wrong, I understand combating fraud and following rules however, when we offer to bend over backwards for them, they need to realize at a certain point, they need to work with their customers. There is no reason not to take a VISA check card from any customer, local or not. There is no reason not to accept a picture of my card and ID in this emergency situation. If I known this would be an issue, I would have sent my husband's credit card with him but it seriously never occurred to me that in 2018 I wouldn't be able to get him whatever money he needed if he needed it should an emergency arise. I am so disappointed in Enterprise right now and how they turned away my husband and father in law in a moment of need and showed no compassion. They refused to find a solution that would give Enterprise a good name in this situation, give them some business and get family back on the road.
