Tried Avis - not only was the place a dump, but they weren't there, and then told me that I required a class 5 license - all of this when I was scheduled to pick up the vehicle. I stopped at Driving Force, and I was happy I did - they had exactly what I needed, were happy to rent to me, the car was clean, fueled, and mechanically perfect. The staff were excellent, seemed very happy to help and to be there, and I will be using them again as my first choice should I require a rental in the future. Thanks guys!

National/enterprise have franchised many of their locations. Franchise owners can set and change their prices after the rental has been returned. We performed a one-way rental, and instead of the usual 400$ drop fee, we got charged a whopping 3,000$ extra. The contract with the franchise will LOOK the same, but a few key words are different to allow them to do this. There is nothing you can do, we had legal look into it. If you signed the forms to pick up the car you WILL be paying the maximum 5,000$ on every rental with these crooks. Be careful, and vote with your wallet.

I left several messages and no return call. After 4 days someone finally called, only to tell me they didn't have a vehicle for me and wouldn't have one.They didn't even offer to get one from anothe town. After being in a hit and run, and going to Dr. s and emergency and police reports, the last thing I needed was to be without a vehicle. I still had to get to work. (A taxi costs $63 a day) I have been dependant on my boss and taxi's to get to and from work and just every day errands. My insurance covers a rental up to $750.00. And I pay my insurance every month. It's supposed to be available to me because I am paying for it. ICBC assured me that there would be a vehicle of similar make and model (Lincoln Navigator ). But when they couldn't get an answer at National Rental it was left up to me to get a hold of them. I totally feel like i've been scammed. I pay my insurance every month, and it was peace of mind knowing that I had this additional coverage. I am a single woman in my mid 50's and felt assured knowing that this was back up for me in case I ever needed it. I can't say anything positive about my experience with National, and will be cancelling that service from my insurance, plus leaving a bad review. Even one star is a generous rating.

Spent over an hour kicking around trying to get a hold of someone. They rolled in around 8:30am no idea that they had someone who reserved a car an hour and a half earlier. They were apologetic enough and said they'd discounted the rental by 20% without me even asking. The car didn't have any fuel in it, they verbally said it would be okay, just return it with no gas. Dropped the car off at 7am the next day (place was dead as a door knob again). Things were smooth enough until I got the bill, they charged me for 26 hours, the additional 2 hours at 30 dollars an hour, because they weren't around the accept the vehicle at 7am. Plus they charged full price, no 20% discount, and charged me for a full tank of fuel. Greasy place, greasy people.. The invoice said i drove 1300km... I went to GP and back, no way that was 1300km FFS. Tried in vane to get a-hold of them to sort it out, they don't answer the phone. Typical, they think you're an oil company and don't care... it was a personal rental... will never rent here again.

Unfortunately I later forgot to return the keys and flew back to Vancouver. I called in right away after landing and they told me to just courier it back. They didn't mention any delayed fees and usually company like this tend to have spare keys anyway. In the end they charged me 8 days rental fee. Walt's has had a haloed existence in FSJ for several years, mainly due to the Father, who was a…read morekind and honest mechanic. My experience here this past couple of months has shown a business where Pop made it and Son runs it but has lost the reason why Walt's was so successful in the first place. Here are the problems that I encountered: 1. Very Young Reception Staff who are way over their heads in their position as Clerical but think they are Journeyman Mechanics. In other words they are spewing out information which was downright incorrect. 2. The intake appointment process was just ridiculous. You make an appointment for your vehicle and they tell you to drop your vehicle off at 8 am but they might not 'get to it' until afternoon and might need to keep it overnight. Which is so inconvenient to me as I cannot just drop of my wheels and wait for them to decide 'when to get to it'. Why not give a customer a specific time? 3. No waiting room. 4. Now to the actual work. The mechanic did a wellness check on my vehicle. So, for over two hundred bucks, I was told that one tie rod end was cracked and needed to be replaced. No problem I told them to order the part and get it done. Which meant another complete day that I would be without my vehicle as they still insist on dropping off the car a 8 am. So, the tie rod was changed and I was charged for 1.3 hrs work to do it. Seems a little long, considering it could easily be changed in 20-30 minutes. 5. They told me to get a wheel alignment. I had to go to another outfit to get this done and this is where the 'exposure ' of the poor inspection done by Walt's mechanic was evident. The 'Wheel' Company that I took my vehicle to, told me that the 'other' tie rod end needed to be changed as it was rusty and loose. I said, 'What!'...Walt's just did an inspection and missed the opposite tie rod end? Could not believe it, which left me pissed at Walt's. 6. Further, the 'wellness' check that Walt's did on my car revealed a cracked brake line, which they never specifically reviewed with me. I only noticed that particular when I reviewed the sheet and had to decipher the mechanic's inspection. I brought this up to the very young clerk who was so snotty about having to order the part. I was stunned, she acted as if it was my fault that I never brought this matter to their attention when the Fact of the matter is that I paid Walt's to tell me what further work was needed for my vehicle. So, all-in-all, I found Walt's Automotive to be very poor in their Inspection and Service Protocals, which actually cost me more money in that I had to rent a car two times because their 'drop your car at 8 am' just did not work for me. Plus, had the mechanic properly inspected my car, he could have changed both tie rod ends which would have been cheaper for me. Not to mention the hassle they created by not reviewing their findings of the inspection process (missed the cracked brake line). The pluses of Walt's: 1 out of the 3 frontline staff was very courteous and helpful (Erin). I did feel sorry for Erin as the other two young female staff were really rude and dismissive to her. I think they are jealous of Erin, as this Lady was professional and charming, while they were rude and very unlikeable. For me, Walt's is a thing of the past, unfortunately the New Walt's just does not give that old world service that was once reliable and considerate.
