I rented a car through National, for pickup in their subsidiary in Manchester Airport, Enterprise Rent-a-Car. We waited maybe 35 minutes to get on to the overcrowded bus to the rental village. Upon arriving at the front desk, I was told that there was no insurance on the car, and that I would have to take out additional insurance to get the car out. There was nothing on my confirmation statement that said the car had not been insured. This doubled the price of the rental, putting the rent higher than Sixt, Hertz and the other rental car companies at the airport.
I was told to pick up my car at a certain bay number, and made my way to pickup. The car was not at the bay the agent told me, so we spent some time finding it.
We inspected the car, and discovered that there was a huge crack across the windshield. We walked to find an agent to reject the car, and the Enterprise agent told us "Oh - you got the car with the cracked windshield", so they obviously knew about it up front. We had to wait 45 minutes for them to prepare a car that was legal to drive, and ended up getting a smaller car than what we ordered and paid for. We received no discount for the cheaper car.
When returning the car, we had to search to find an agent, and the agent would only take our keys in the booth. No inspection of the car with me present, and no sign-off on the condition of the vehicle.
I rent cars often, also with Enterprise at Heathrow etc, and I found the whole experience with Enterprise Rent-a-Car at Manchester Airport odd. They seriously need to look at training their staff. read more
