There are several paths with boardwalk and viewing platforms. You can view the falls in a matter of minutes, with minimal walking, or put a fair amount steps on the clicker, if you so desire, with the other trails available. If you just want a good view of the falls & some pics, 2hrs is ample time. If you want a better stretch without a full day, 4hrs should do ya. The parking lot is large, plenty of spaces & restrooms The falls are pretty amazing & definitely worth a stop

Alright well, Kakabeka Falls is actually a provincial park located on the outskirts of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. If you're making the 150-mile North Shore Scenic Drive up Minnesota's eastern coast, you'll eventually encounter the border with Canada and if you have a passport, you might as well gain entry and make the 38-mile drive north here. I had a pretty high outlook for Kakabeka Falls, and it didn't 100% fulfill my expectations. During my research, I had read that the 131-foot waterfall is known as the "Niagra of the North". So...I assumed that it'd be similar to Niagara Falls, but...this is just one specific waterfall, (majestic to some degree) that's viewed from a few different observation areas. There's not much to the park other than short hiking trails in nature and a campground. While in comparison, Niagara Falls is one of the great world destinations with an abundance of exploring options. You can use multiple days to admire the magnitude of such an iconic landmark. Although I expected a lot more from Kakabeka Falls, coming to see this with a clear and open mind, overall, I still found it impressive and would recommend it to outdoor and waterfall enthusiasts, lol. There are 3 forms for visiting. You can pay for times... - 2 hour visit - 4 hour visit - All day visit Kakabeka Falls sits right beside the entrance/parking lot so you don't need the entire day to see it. I paid for the 4-hour option which was $8 Canadian or around $6 US. I also purchased a souvenir magnet for $2 as well. There's a boardwalk pathway that navigates around the falls. All you have to do is casually stroll it. It takes 20 - 30 minutes to walk. And just stop at your own accord when you feel like taking a picture. This is the main highlight/feature of the park. For those wanting more hiking/exploring time, here were 3 paths recommended to me by the park ranger... - Mountain Portage Trail - 1.1 km loop - Little Falls Trail - 2.5 km loop - Poplar Point Trail - 3.8 km loop There's also a campground inside the park. They accept travelers with and without reservations. I'd also like to point out the setting. I visited yesterday for the early part of June and the surroundings were perfect. It wasn't hot or humid and simply stopping at different points on the Boardwalk Path to appreciate the sights was worth the small price of admission. Lastly, looking away from the falls was scenic. The river flows down in between a rugged valley gorge and when you're standing high above along the boardwalk path, it makes for special views. Kakabeka Falls can be categorized as an under the radar attraction located just north of the US/Canada border. It's not difficult to access and having time to appreciate a beautiful waterfall backdrop is a winning formula, from my pov.

Reception staff excellent. No executive lounge but was given breakfast vouchers good for their continental breakfast. The voucher could be used toward main menu items worth $13 CAD. Great food at the restaurant with attentive servers. The Sunday brunch is extensive and we were allowed to use the voucher toward it. However we were misinformed as voucher is only good for continental breakfast, not brunch. The manager made an exception due to misinformation. Kudos to the manager. Room very clean. However, housekeeping did not do a thorough job first night (trash not emptied, short on towels). Also had to call maintenance to fix TV and repair shower handle. Maintenance was very prompt and effective. The hotel just needs a little oversight on small issues like this. Hotel is located in the harbor district and footbridge gives access to downtown. Not sure I would venture there after dark. The Bright restaurant next to hotel is outstanding. Go there. Would stay there again. Keep traveling.

The YA's It does have a signature bar and restaurant that had live jazz entertainment but it's definitely not worth the price Of $300 a night standard 2 queens. Everything has a charge, they'll nickel and dime you to death here. $10 starting for breakfast might get you a muffin... $25 parking but it's heated underground so I bought that for convenience instead of having to lug the luggage carrier through snow then up stairs into the front foyer ( which really they should have bellboys for that but don't) Honestly I don't know how these big chain hotels think they can drop amenities, gut guest services and charge you on top of the hefty price of a nights stay for less. I'm surprised they don't make you wash the linens when you're done. Being a member means nothing, no perks, no late checkout, unless you're a farmer and think noon is late. LESS FOR MORE pretty much sums it up. Perks? I mean if you're conference is being held here staying here means you don't have to walk across the tracks might be the only perk aside from the view but ya you've gotta pay extra for that too! lol I could go on but it's already 11pm and I've got an early late checkout so.... Book a room at the Holiday Inn Express and be treated like a king for less!

At less than $70 per night this place is cleaner than most 4 star rated big name hotels. Did I mention the rooms are clean?? Bed was comfy. Bathroom has full shower and tub. Also clean. My room also had a nice sizedmini fridge, microwave, coffe maker , flat screen TV with full cable, WiFi and air conditioning. I was very happy with my stay here and will book this same motel again next time I visit. Highly recommended.

"It is an old building, open a window (only one window had a screen), want a fan, when did you turn the AC on?!? LOL. What an absolute joke!! We were completely dismissed. Be AWARE, please do not book this BS place. You might have no heat, no AC, be in the basement, what a joke. As a side note: Thunder Bay is an absolute joke right now. We stayed one night even though we were booked for two, and we saw Las Vegas drug zombies around. Right in front of us people were falling out. Unreal, and sad. Send this around, give awareness.

The rooms are clean, surprisingly quiet given the proximity to the highway and airport, and the beds comfortable, which is probably the most important thing. Staff are friendly, and they give you free water bottles which is a nice touch. The hotel is short on amenities - no pool or restaurant, which is why it doesn't get 5 stars, but there are plenty of places to eat nearby so it's not really a problem. So far the best sleep I have had in Thunder Bay.
