Called Energy Stars to come take a look at it (we had purchased the unit from them 5 years earlier), and they said 'because of the high temperatures and multiple people calling in with problems, it would take a couple of days before a technician could show up. Two days later, Eric from Energy Stars arrived to check out my outside AC condenser. As soon as he started to diagnose the problem outside, a rainstorm moved in and it rained the entire time he was outside working on my problem. He explained the issue was a faulty 'high pressure switch' in the condenser. Since he didn't have one in the truck, he 'temporarily fixed' the issue until they could order the switch and get someone back out to swap it out. Long story short, the temp in my house has gone from high 80's back down to mid 70's. Energy Stars called back later that afternoon to confirm they had ordered the switch and set up an appointment to return to install it. The part was covered under warranty (a 10-year warranty), though we will have to pay labor charges. Thanks to Eric who was knowledgeable, polite, and quick to fix the issue.

Some time ago I noticed that my neighbor behind us had a radon mitigation installation on the back…read moreof his house. A few months later, a neighbor across the street from us texted me that he had just done a radon mitigation installation in his house. I bought a radon test kit online, and the it indicated we were just barely over the safe limit for radon exposure, so I didn't do anything about it. Several years went by, and I bought another radon detection kit. Unlike the first one, that only required 3 days of exposure, this one was for several months. The 2nd test showed a slightly higher reading, and the recommendation was that we get the remediation done. I found out from one of our neighbors that the cost for them was $1500. My wife told me one of her good friends had recently done the radon remediation, and I got in touch with her. The price she mentioned was much less than what our neighbor paid, and she was very happy with the work. The company she used was Metro Radon Control of St. Louis. They have an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, so I contacted them and spoke with Mark Manfrede. He provided me with a detailed written estimate for $850. This is what impressed me and why i give Metro Radon of St. Louis, and Mark Manfrede my highest recommendation: 1) I started with a personal recommendation from a family friend that has used them. 2) Metro Radon Control of St. Louis has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. 3) Excellent communication. Mark always got back to me in a timely manner. 4) Showed up on time 5) Professional installation, with excellent clean-up afterwards. 6) Fantastic Follow-up to post job problems I should elaborate on what I am referring to by "Post Job Problems." Sometime after I did the first 2 radon tests, and before I hired Metro Radon Control to do the job, I procured a Hound 1085 Radon Detector for long term radon monitoring. Following the radon mediation installation, the Hound 1085 indicated I had radon readings in excess of 6.0. I contacted Mark, and he came out and replaced the fan with a much larger one. Meanwhile, I got a 2nd radon monitor, and it showed readings between 1 and 2. The larger fan, which ran constantly, produced a low hum, that was keeping me up at night because it was installed just outside of my bedroom. Once again I got in touch with Mark, and today he came back (for the 3rd time) and replaced the larger fan with the original fan. I expected him to charge me for the extra trip, but he didn't. I was a property manager for over 30 years, and met my share of contractors that did shoddy work, over-charged, and didn't back up their work. Recently, I met two exceptional contractors, and Mark is one of them. In general, whenever I have a project I get at least 3 bids. I ask for references and/or check out the BBB reports. I don't always go with the lowest bid. The exception to my getting 3 bids is when a personal friend gives me a referral, as in the case of Metro Radon Control of St. Louis. When it comes to reliability and customer service this company is amazing. Every service tech that has come to my home and the young lady that answers the phone all have been amazing. When you schedule service you will get a text confirmation. The nice young lady will call you the day of to remind you and the tech will call when they're on their way. Like I said, reliability and customer service is excellent. I'm deducting one star because there's a man that also answers the phone who needs more customer service training. Each time I have spoken to him I've felt like I'm interrupting his lunch or my questions are below him. There's no compassion in his voice. He speaks very matter-of-factly. When you're having a concern with your heat or air you're most likely already stressed. It sure would be nice to speak to someone who doesn't contribute to your issues. I requested a lien waiver from him last Thursday for work completed and paid for that day. I had to call today, Tuesday, to follow up. The nice young lady emailed it to me within 30 minutes. The tech, was a really nice kid, and clearly put in a bad spot by his employer. Think twice, is our recommendation.

We called Hoffman Bro's first because they deal with both, and they charged us ~$300 to tell us the same thing as Spire and suggest we call a chimney sweep to check the flue pipe for blockages. We couldn't find a chimney sweep that either could be booked within the month to inspect and give us an estimate, and if they could be booked in that time frame they didn't understand the problem we described and wanted us to fork over hundreds to inspect and sweep our flue. Luckily, an acquantance gave us Crestside Ballwin's number. The receptionist called Dave over to learn about the problem and within a minute he figured that the roofers we had over a few weeks ago probably botched the install of the new flue pipe cap.
