They were accepted to both Purdue and UIUC. One is for engineering and the other for chemistry. This is significant considering many smart kids were reportedly rejected this year. I had a poor experience with MyGuru for LSAT tutoring and law school admissions prep…read more For 6 weeks, I met with a tutor twice a week for 90 minutes. I would do practice test sections assigned to me and we would review them in our sessions. Because I was planning on applying for the Fall of '25, I wanted to get a 10 point LSAT bump from my original diagnostic score in a matter of 10 weeks. I did not put enough time in studying to get such a large increase, but nor I find the tutoring particularly helpful. In addition, I paid an exorbitant sum for law school admissions counseling. When the tutoring wasn't going in the direction I had been hoping, I cancelled the tutoring and the admissions counseling, deciding to wait for the next admissions cycle to apply. MyGuru would only refund me 50% of their admissions counseling fee, despite meeting with me only once about admissions. When I asked them for a refund based on the work they put in, they said: if they calculated that, it would be likely be a greater cost. I accepted the 50% refund and asked them for a deliverable of the work they had done. They gave me an excel document in which they took notes from our admissions meeting and had collected admission information from law school websites. There was nothing new or helpful about this information, and I suspect it took him less than an hour to copy and paste it from the law school admissions websites. Yet, MyGuru was comfortable charging me thousands of dollars for it.

(in Prospect Heights/Wheeling area) and we decided to sign her up for college planning which included individualized essay review help for the Common Application. One important factor in comparing college prep programs are the costs. What we liked about College Planning Co. is that they focus cohesively on entire process rather than solely on ACTs or SATs like popular SAT/ACT programs such as Princeton Review or Kaplan, etc. We wanted a company that could start with us from the beginning so that by the time she was ready for college, she would be fully immersed and a competitive applicant. We really liked how there was a lot of college career counseling (more individualized than what they offered at her school) and that there was a lot of advice on what she needed to be involved in. What was even more beneficial is that they also offer financial planning tools to help with FAFSA profiles and other scholarship programs. The President/Owner discussed the programs with us and told us about their ACT36 program. We did not sign her up for that program (she's super smart and studied using books) but that might be an option for certain students. I was informed that they use their own individualized instructors for this program. I really liked the location (free parking) but honestly wished it was a little closer to home. She's said things are helpful and her teachers are nice which I'm happy about. I wish I knew about this company a lot sooner (when she was a freshman) so she could take advantage of the entire process.

I had to drive around the entire building to find the entrance that I was supposed to enter through. Once inside I found the hallways to be very cramped. The classrooms all had chalkboards, which I haven't seen in at least 15 years. The bathrooms have not been updated in a long time, 30 years if I had to guess. There were some sound problems with a presentation but the sound engineer was there to fix the issue. There were some nice lounge areas to rest and recharge between sessions on a long day. I cannot recommend Roosevelt University to as a facility to attend conferences at.
