They've got room dedicated to fantasy to mystery and literature. The folks that work there are some of the nicest folks are going to meet. Outgoing and knowledgeable. Friendly. I've ordered books through them and they're good with finding used books and then selling them to me at lower than full price, reasonable price but not max price. They're right next-door to Winans Chocolate & Coffee, so it's really convenient to find a nice little walk, get yourself a nice cup of coffee or hot chocolate, and then go in the back to the reading room between the two and sit down in the corner of the couch and do some reading.

The only drawback to the store is that the building is old and not ADA compliant. The entry is via very steep stairs and no landing. It's kind of scary and I'm glad there are handrails. For those with mobility issues, don't worry, as there is in-store pick up, local delivery, and US shipping.

I'm a sucker for a toy store that sports creative and educational toys. Nine times out of ten I walk out with a purchase either for myself or the kiddos in my life. This visit was no exception. We ended up purchasing these fun stickers that convert a cardboard box into a car (they also had versions that create a mini play kitchen - how fun?!). The shop was filled with educational items - engineering, arts/creative, invention toolkits, art history, etc. They also have a small section in the front with quirky items like a mustached baby pacifier. My only reason for holding back on the fifth star was that some of the tchotchke style items seemed overpriced to a point that I couldn't justify spending more for local - for example $17 sunglasses for kiddos.

I'm glad to be able to find my way out of the wilderness, to find a working Barnes & Noble, especially since Borders/Waldenbooks went away. My visit went very smoothly today and the store was next to Bed, Bath, and Beyond and close to a number of other stores, so it was extremely convenient. Guessing the layout of the store is the only real surprise. They had two magazines I wanted and I was able to avoid the stinky coffee area, which was wonderful. Checkout was ever so quick and smooth. Prices are not discounted but they/we have to pay for all the people using their store as a library.

There also is a second floor which may be dedicated to a children's area; not positive as I didn't go up there. I am always on the lookout for old books as in 70-plus years, but not a whole lot in that department here as far as sorted items. There was a big stack of aged books but not catalogued. Believe me, I would have gladly pulled up a stool and reviewed the entire stack but as is often the case, the impatient husband was waiting in the car so I couldn't prolong my visit. I did grab a great sci-fi classic by Isaac Asimov; the book is pretty beat up but one dollar! Also spotted a tote bag featuring cats and books so that went home with me for sure. There are places to sit if you want to chill and read for a while. The lady behind the counter indicated that I could contact them for any old books I am searching for. Happy that they have Sunday hours and looking forward to a future visit.
