Everything seemed perfect - Rose was available at the last minute and able (for an additional $50.00) to make the trip from Naperville to Glenview (where the party was). She arrived, seemed friendly enough, and took pictures. After the party she informed me that she would have the photos unloaded within two days (wow - super fast, I thought) and a disc with the images would follow shortly via the mail. After two weeks, I had yet to hear anything from Rose or receive the pictures. I called her and send her an email - just checking in (my husband and I didn't mind waiting for the pictures, but had been hoping to use an image as our thank you notes). I did not hear back. I called and emailed her again, and this time I received a short email back saying she had not gotten my messages, but the disc was in the mail. The disc never arrived. My husband and I have contacted Rose numerous times (via email and phone), filed a complaint with The Better Business Bureau, and contacted a lawyer (as a last resort). We have no pictures of our son's fifth birthday and are out $250.00 - and yet Rose Alene continues to post Craigslist ads and update her website.

After talking to almost 10 photographers (yes, picky, I know), I knew instantly within the first 5 minutes over the phone that Julia would be the one. She was personable, professional, and very knowledgable. Although she seemed easy-going, you can tell she would be meticulous and detail oriented. Throughout our entire planning process, she was responsive and I never waited more than a day or two for a reply. As a matter of fact, I felt like she followed up with us more than we followed up with her! Our wedding took place in Northern California, so we didn't meet Julia for the first time until our engagement session. She promptly responded to emails, was easily approachable, and made me feel comfortable both on the phone, in emails, and in person. Christine even helped us think of locations we could try and had the great idea of going back to the spot where he proposed. I knew that I wanted her to photograph our anniversary right away! So, it was a really nice day, spent not just with our personal photographer but together, enjoying the moment, and remembering the days we got engaged and married. Christine set us in the mood and made us feel very comfortable, which is no easy task to do, as I am completely awkward in front of the camera. Due to Covid, we had to reschedule our wedding and had to find a new photographer. A friend recommended working with Dawn and the rest was history. Dawn walked us through what the new schedule would look like, what photos we wanted, and understood how we wanted photos to look. We wanted a more natural, "candid" picture. She was able to adapt to our individual needs. Even before the event, she was extremely helpful, welcoming and addressed our questions in a timely fashion. She also asked questions that helped her understand the unique situation she was asked to take photos for (small wedding, personal premise). When it came to the wedding, Dawn was fantastic. She immediately started scouting for an additional photo spots to ensure she would get the best view point. This was no small feat, she walked a good distance to the tree line and into a small forest. She really wanted to maximize her working area. The photos of the prep time, ceremony, dancing and speeches captured the magic of the evening. Her photos really speak for her craft. Dawn was our wedding photographer, and she also did our engagement shoot. We had met with two other photographers, who were great in their own right, but we immediately "clicked" with Dawn. Her personality put us completely at ease, and her photography style was exactly what we had in mind. Initially I didn't even want to do an engagement photo session. I'm not at all photogenic (believe me, that's not false modesty, but a fact) and I'm not very comfortable posing and having my picture taken. My then-fiance convinced me that having an engagement shoot would be good practice for taking the wedding photos, and would give us an opportunity for Dawn to get to know us better and vice versa, thereby resulting in better photos. As usual, he was 100% correct. We wanted our engagement photos to not be too "staged," so we chose to shoot around our neighborhood, where's there's unusual backdrops and lots of natural settings. At best, I was hoping for a few photos that I could "live with," but they all turned out beautiful. I was blown away. Fast forward to our wedding, and again, Dawn nailed it. The pictures captured all the fun and emotion of a most memorable day. We'll cherish these photos for the rest of our lives.
