This guy was so rude to me. He had no bedside manner and had the nerve to tell me that if "I" didn't lose weight I would die of a stroke or heart attack. Has he looked in the mirror lately? He was always nice as pie to my husband but treated me like dirt. He must have put nasty comments about me in my chart because other Banner network doctors could see his remarks and one provider was shocked but she wouldn't tell me what was in my chart. Like the other horror stories about the front desk, I would show up for an appointment and be rudely told I had to pay off a balance before I could be seen. Why didn't you tell me that before I drove all the way from Laveen? He doesn't want anything to do with technology. The diabetic meters these days keep track of everything so you can share the records with the provider. He only wants it written down in a diary. The only thing I like about this office is his nurse who has a nice demeanor with patients. read more

Have seen Dr Epstein a few times and each time I think it can't get worse, it does. Not only does Dr Epstein detests answering patient questions but the office staff is curt and rude. Dr Epstein huffs and puffs, sighs as he curtly answers your questions. Of course the shorter and blithe his answers, the more questions I have to ask to get him to clarify. Also, the receptionists and the nurses seem to always be having a bad day. I am not sure what is going on at this place but it is definitely not welcoming. Furthermore, the nurses are rough handed so pray that you don't bruise easily. Additionally, their billing practice is ridiculous. They bill quarterly, which inherently is not a problem. But if you have multiple follow up appointments within that 3 month period, you are required to pay the bill even prior to actually seeing it! Go figure Dr Epstein is the only endocrinologist in town (and believe me, I called plenty of them) who isn't booked out several weeks to months. Next time, I will book with a doctor who has a fuller calendar. It's worth the wait. read more

I called for an appointment and specifically asked if the doctor practiced and was well versed in HRT. I needed immediate relief from some symptoms. I confirmed they had an in-house lab and would have the results and would prescribe the meds needed right then. Unfortunately, his lab was not on my insurance and I had to go elsewhere.Twenty-three days and $120 into it I got some results from the blood work and my thyroid was discussed but no mention of the reason for my visit. I expected relief finally, only to be devastated when told I need to see an OBGYN and he would not prescribe anything until I did. WTH! I did not need to see him then. I made an appointment with a reputable doctor and in one visit received the meds I so desperately needed. This man and his office manager's Hippocratic Oath is to sucker victims and bill their insurance without providing the healthcare.you requested. They refused to refund any money. I must say that all of the negative reviews made me skeptical. However, I had a really positive experience. I understand that not everyone is going to see this doctor for the same reason. My reason is thyroid cancer. The entire staff was very warm and friendly. The doctor was sensitive to the fact that I was anxious about what to expect. He took the time to thoroughly​ explain the next steps in my recovery. It was so thorough​ that I didn't have​​ any additional​ questions​. Even though he asked. i feel like i am taking crazy pills here. I get sent off to do an ultrasound and an MRI to see my thyroid and pituitary gland. nothing visibly wrong but all of my hormone levels are out of whack. he asks the same questions everytime i see him, and does NOT take notes. a real eye-opener when you're missing work and have to hound them for information due to a short-term disability case you have open. my current issue is that i last saw him on the 2nd of october for a prescription that required a pre-authorization....we had discussed it 30 days prior. he wasn't prepared and i am still without my medication because they don't answer their faxes. and when i call to hound them on that.....he forgets to sign the prescription....so here i am three weeks no medication and becoming more and more irritated daily. its' worthy of a medical board complaint but i don't even know how to go about that read more

My appointment was set for 10am was told be here by 930 for check in. Well I've been sitting in one of the rooms for ablut 30 mins now and still no dam doctor. No one has even come in to say he'll be right in or nothing. People have things to do no one plans to be at a doctor office for over an hour. I'm very disappointed in this place. I am aware of Dr Epstein's negative reviews and I must say, I did not share any of the experiences I read about. I LOVE this DOC!!! I feel like he cares about me!! He listens to all my concerns without rushing. He asks a ton of questions, which I appreciate. He is digging to find the answer to my adrenal problems. A solution .....Not a band aid. I have hope for the first time in years!!! His assistant, Esteban, is a dream!! Another caring and responsive medical professional. My general practitioner said she was not comfortable with some endocrinology issues, so she referred me to Dr. Epstein. Made my first appointment and met with Dr. Epstein. He ordered additional bloodwork and asked his staff to schedule my next appointment, which I did. When my general practitioner got a copy of my new blood work from the lab, she immediately wanted to change my medication dosage. I called Dr. Epstein's office to see if there was any possibility I could meet with Dr. Epstein before my scheduled appointment date. I was told I did not have an upcoming appointment; i.e., they gave me a handwritten appointment card, but never scheduled the appointment into the computer. (Of course, it was blamed on "computer problems.") Ok, everybody makes mistakes, but let's rectify the situation. I asked if it would be possible for Dr. Epstein to squeeze me into his schedule sometime in the near future. Even though my situation could possibly be life-threatening, I was told by his staff that he doesn't "overbook." (What a joke! That's exactly what they did when they double booked someone else in my appointment time.) Not impressed at all with this office or their policies for rectifying THEIR errors! Luckily, I was able to book an earlier appointment elsewhere with staff kind enough to give a new patient a previously canceled appointment slot. read more

I went to see Dr. Epstein because I was experiencing thinning hair. The most common reason for female hair loss is due to high DHT levels (testosterone) or low estrogen. They ran thorough blood tests for thyroid and hormones. Everything came out normal other than low vitamin D levels, you literally have to be in the rickets stage before hair loss occurs from a deficiency in this vitamin. I'm certain my hair loss is due to high DHT levels. My scalp itches like crazy. Also my identical twin sister has not had any issues, and she has recently had a baby (so is fired up with estrogen). It also started thinning about the time I stopped taking a contraceptive pill. He refused to prescribe me with Spironolactone, a DHT blocker. I would recommend that Dr. Epstein read Geoffrey Redmond's book, "It's Your Hormones." "Follicles overly sensitive to testosterone can shed their hairs when exposed to even a whiff of testosterone, even if levels read normal." I was very fortunate to visit a young, knowledgeable dermatologist (Dr. Matthew Woods) who thankfully confirmed that I did indeed have androgenic alopecia and prescribed me with Spironolactone. I didn't even mention the drug to him. This guy has certainly done his homework! Dr. Epstein did however notice an enlarged thyroid and suggested that I go for an ultrasound. I'm thankful for his advice because a nodule was found, luckily non-cancerous. read more

If I could give this doctor less than a star I would. He is always running incredibly late even though he spends less than a few minutes with his patients. Maybe this is because you can see him sneaking through the back door of the office an hour after his first appointment time. He is incredibly rude and does not take the time to listen to your concerns and understand your needs. He's also dangerous and frequently does not order the necessary tests to manage your conditions or gives you the wrong results! Stay far away from this quack if you value your health. read more

This man is amazing! Spent several years being told by many doctors that there was nothing wrong with me. Dr. Epstein took one visit and a few well thought out tests and within two weeks had me diagnosed with a rare adrenal insuffientcy. Two weeks later I was on meds and feel like a new person. This 1 star review is for the front office staff and not so much Dr. Epstein. Dr. Epstein refers me to get my thyroid removed he tells me come back 2 weeks after surgery. I schedule my appointment and come back 2 wks after surgery. Prior to my appointment I received 2 calls reminding me of my appointment. No one at that time said I had a balance. I never received a bill why? Because they left the apt number off my address. I get to my appt and Viola the rude unprofessional receptionist says we can't see u unless u pay ur balance. I say what balance and why didn't you tell me during the 2 reminder calls. She replies we like to tell patients in person and not over the phone. I tell her I wasn't prepared to pay today and she replies well I can't check u in until we receive payment. I drove from tempe to glendale only to not be seen and I had just had surgery. I schedule another appointment a month later because that's the earliest they can get me in. This time I have my payment the office manager comes to me and says next time u decide to walk out of ur appt ur going to be charged. I'm confused like excuse me. She said Viola reported u were mad because u had a copay and u said u didn't want to be seen. My mouth is on the floor. I'm like that's not what happened she refused to check me because I had a balance. Viola says that's not true u left on ur own. I say why would I drive from tempe to glendale and fresh out of surgery I feel miserable because my thyroid was removed and I'm not on medication and I refused to check myself in? You're lying. They said if I continue to throw around accusations they will have to ask me to leave of course this was after they received my payment. I see dr epstein for 5mins and he's talking so fast I'm wondering if he is an auctioneer in his spare time. Dr. E is a GREAT endo! He is willing to look at all the possible issues. I originally found him because I was referred to him for hypothyroid disease. He got me through that successfully (4 years at happy med levels now, and feeling better than I did for the previous decade!) He is always careful to ask about any other concerns or things going on. I mentioned at one point that I have chronic vitamin -D deficiency--that is now on his check-every-time lab list. I have been seeing a rheum. for fibromyalgia, and was not happy with that guy wanting to just write more and more prescriptions for BIG neuro meds to treat sort of mild fibro symptoms. Dr. E listened to my questions, and when I asked about magnesium, he immediately ordered a mag. lab, which came up on the low end of normal. He gave me a mag supplement, which has completely ELIMINATED the need for all the big drugs. You do have to go in knowing he is not a touchy-feely guy, (and he is not willing to prescribe things simply because you read a book that you got on Amazon) but he is totally current on cutting edge endocrinology, and is absolutely fabulous in my book. read more
