Not that I ever want to be in hospital again but if I do I hope it's here Thank you to all the nursing, catering, cleaning and Physio staff on levels 1 and 4 that I came in contact with.

And according to my husband, the patient, the path lab staff are some of the best 'needle peeps' he has to deal with. Great on-site services (post-mart, bookshop, pop up shops, reliable cafe and pharmacy.) There's even a choice of cafés - cafeteria style Alf's which offers a quite excellent and well priced range of nom noms following the 'traffic light' system (read: everything from potato cakes to brown rice sushi). The salad and juice bars deserve a special mention - not a typical hospital offering (from my experience) and very appreciated by frequent visitors. The dedicated caffeine bar works just as well as you'd expect in a place filled with shift working, high performing professionals who, as a matter of fact, may be performing brain surgery. Alfretti's is a bit fancier, noisier, and more like an outside world cafe. Ultimately, I hope you don't need to be at any hospital for extended or repeated visits, but if you do, The Alfred definitely holds its own in the food and bev department.

At first I thought that leaving me one day without food or water as a diabetic and then stealing my medication for another two days on top was bad and still no food or water. But it got so much worse. They do not communicate to you about your treatment and they stand near your room and clearly you can hear them talking about declining to treat you. I am an Aboriginal disabled women and they decided to ignore my cultural beliefs and deny me access to a disability liaison officer and psychologist while they were abusing me for requisition someone who knew what yelling at a physically disabled woman as the stood above me and screamed I was not disabled despite 10-17years of medical evidence and surgery results. And when I literally was on the ground begging them to look at my medical history they also said "no I am not going to do that." I also begged and pleaded that I could not stand due to the reason I was in there being medically unable to and they screamed and I had 6 people grab my body and rip me up in a very dangerous way and dump my spine (the very issue I was in there for was a disc bulge in my spine that was causing sciatica for a second term) into the hard wheelchair and then dragged my spine over the wheel chair to tie me into it as I didn't protest and wheel me to the street and dump a disabled woman to the dark 2am street where there was no one around and put her phone and purse out of her reach all because they didn't believe she was unable to stand. As I requested my medication that they had stolen earlier in the week they denied having it. I called the police to get help and they somehow were able to get a bag full of medication then to give to the police and then they lied to the police and despite me begging the police to investigate they took the word of the nurse in charge of the ED and left a paralysed woman whose walking is very limited and experiencing severe sciatica and unable to walk on the dark street for three ours with no way to get home or aid.

I was most impressed by the high level of medical knowledge and excellent care. My father and I were treated with so much kindness, empathy and respect. The nurses were so attentive to my father's needs. Unlike my father's clinical care at a hospital in the Western suburbs, the GEM team at the Royal Melbourne know exactly what they are doing and were in constant communication with me. They listened to me , took my opinions on board and validated my concerns. The discharge process was seamless and the hospital clinical pharmacist was efficient and brilliant. I am so grateful and thankful for how they looked after my father.

I was meant to go to rehab at Epworth for 2 weeks, I wanted to leave the very next morning!! The…read morephysiotherapist I had was really unprofessional & too busy chatting & gossiping with her colleagues to care what or how I was doing. The (male) nursing unit manager was abusive towards me & made it very obvious that he didn't believe I had, had a fall, because none of the staff witnessed it.My daughter came in, at first encouraging me to try & stay the full 2 weeks but a little while after she got there the NUM came into my room & continued to be rude & confrontational towards me (in front of my daughter, and not being aware it was my Daughter, who also happens to be a Nurse), after my daughter witnessed the way I was being treated, she told me to pack & leave with her. The Allied health staff (and a trainee Specialist) tried to tell me that what a Professor & various other professionals had told me was incorrect & that all that I had wrong with me was "a bit of arthritis", yet they never spoke to anyone or obtained any of my actual medical records or test results from the hospital I was taken to after the car accident. I stuck it out for almost the full 2 weeks as I genuinely wanted help but despite my efforts, I didn't get the help I so desperately needed. They completely messed up my bowel care regime & medications (that were not an issue to begin with) & changed me to a morphine based medication after I specifically informed them that morphine makes me feel very nauseous. To top it off after I left, they rang my TAC case worker & told her I needed "tough love", I did not give them permission to speak to anyone regarding my health status, so they in fact breached my privacy. I have a spinal cord injury & am pretty sure no amount of "tough love" is going to fix that. I needed guidance & skills to enable me to me more Independent. I deserved kindness, compassion, patience & understanding not to be bullied, belittled and treated so cruelly. What little self esteem I had left, I lost completely during my short stay. I would never NEVER EVER recommend anyone go to the Epworth for Rehab, or for any reason & would never allow another member of my family to either.

I can start to see the value in the painful amounts of cash spent on private health insurance. The Epworth Freemasons is a private hospital with a number of day-procedure suites and specialists. They have a lot of specialised women's facilities and having been here for a recent procedure I was astounded by the level of care and professionalism I was met with. Mostly because I have been treated at Royal Womens, where patients are treated like cattle and you'll be lucky to see the same face twice. Obviously it's going to depend on the kind of care you need and doctor you wind up with, but even when I had a day procedure here a few years ago and complained about the jerk doctor and his lousy bedside manner, the hospital administrators were courteous and understanding. Unfortunately even the exxy health care probably won't cover you for treatment costs at Freemasons, but they are good about providing quotes upfront before booking to help you prepare. Just be warned that you may receive an unsolicited donation request phone call after being a patient here, which can be a bit insulting if you've barely scraped together your treatment costs, but as a non-profit organisation, is just how the world works. If you have a choice (and basically in the case of this hospital you're doing exactly that), I do have to give them props for their care of women.

Consumer Liaison consumerliason@petermac.org PATIENT…read moreFEEDBACK My stay in Peter Mac from Tues, 6 Feb 2018 tom Mon 13 Feb 2018 in Ward 5A Bed 16 Writing in point form for clear & succinct communication: Prior to this, I was treated by 3 different hospitals namely Genesis (Michael Chao); Epworth (Prof McKendricks) & Peter Mac (Sarat Chander) since 2015 Coming to the realisation that it might be better to do this under one interactive centre, I requested my GP, Dr Abraham Mass to refer me to Peter Mac so I could do this. This done in Dec 2017 resulting obtaining the earliest appointment from you on 6 Feb 2018 I was treated by Sarat in 2015 before going to Kerala, India for Ayurvedic treatment. This together with the Hormone therapy bring down my PSA levels from + 350 to 14.8 in Sept 2015 but this couldn't be sustained. Sarat was most concerned by this and made a personal phone call to me to re-consider if I was doing the right thing. I continue to be impressed by such a caring & humanistic caring professional! Then, on seeing him, on 6 Feb, my wife & I shared with him what I had been through was going since then. My Cancer had deteriorated and he and his Registrar Dr. Beini who complimented his professional etiquette to the "t" assured me not to be disappointed as there were many options still left for me. Not privy to my 2nd bone scan on 22 Jan, my wife and I were most apprehensive. We were quite surprised at the level of deterioration and so was Sarat who arranged for an immediate Emergency admission that evening. I was assigned to Ward 5A Bed 16 under the Registrar Patrici and her Registrar, Dr Felicity. The next day they came to see me to advise me on my case. This first meeting turned out to be rather confrontational with unwarranted remarks like: * this is not a 5 Star and I would be discharged ASAP * that I may never be able to walk unaided ever again; *Radiologists are not true doctors! Then, after they left the room, I remembered some pertinent information I should have given them which could affect my treatment protocol and requested another 2 mins of their time to inform them of this but I was not accommodated though Felicity did re-visit me, then. The next day, the Oncology team headed by Prof Peter Green followed up with this to give me my prognosis. He was most optimistic and consoled me that I had a good chance to make a good hile Before being admitted, I had already fallen 6 times, 4 of these directly on my patella on hard ground which rattled my confidence and put a good amount of fear in me! Tis happened on the R patella which was already damaged in a whiplash 35 years ago. Now with the nerve impingement in the lower lumbar made matters even worse. I then fell again on Thursday while the Physiotherapist, Dr Jessica visited me. She became most concerned gave immediate instructions to the Ward that the alarms should be at the highest level even if I were to attempt just to get out of bed. A steady stream of professionals attended to me daily from then on. I have been assigned to be under the duty of care to Prof Guy Toner, whom I am yet to have a first consultation with. I was then advised to have 5 sessions of Radiotherapy and attend Physio twice a day. This meant Registrar couldn't discharge me because I had now become a liability to myself. Sarat also arranged for have a comprehensive X-ray done for me so that he could recommend me to get on the Denusab treatment protocol ASAP. I am happy with this and happy to go ahead after Sarat assessing the results of my next PSA score on my next meeting with him on Mar 20. I might add here that I am also open to having PSMR experimental trials if the Oncology team deems this appropriate for me. Concluding, I like to add here that the purpose of this feedback is not to fix any blame on anyone. This is done to inform you of how impressed my wife, siblings and well-wishers and I are with level of professional Cancer treatment in PeterMac despite the initial glitches. Personally, I feel that the care of treatment I received here is just as good as Mt Sinai or Hope in USA and we'll jointly endeavour to make PeterMac the best Cancer treatment in the Universe! Almost all staff, right down from those down the line like Kelly; Sarodee; Anthony; Tara, Ingrid, Georgina, Jess, Felicity and most importantly the staff from Radiology treated me with respect & care, especially John & Josh.
