I had signed up for Equifax monthly service in the past - two other times. Both times I liked the level of service, the information provided, and ease of use of the website, but I hated how convoluted their cancellation process was. This time I signed up for Equifax monthly service because of specific concerns about my credit report. Once I didn't need it anymore, I figured I'd just call and cancel. I couldn't find a number on their site for this purpose, so I just called the "dispute something on your credit report" number and they quickly transferred me. It's still not fantastic and they seem to want to make it not super easy to cancel your account, but I feel like they have put some efforts into improving their product and processes so I have to give them credit for that. read more

I received a letter from Equifax, stating that my information has been compromised based on an excessive mount of credit bureau reports recently requested. Based on this they indicated I needed to contact them immediately. Unbeknown to Equifax I have LifeLock and there has not been one credit report requested in the last six months. I recently received an email from CreditKarma telling me my credit score had changed. When I logged on I saw, to my astonishment, that Equifax reported I was in collections. I have a high credit score (825+) and have never been in collections. When I clicked on the "dispute" field I was taken into never never land but finally learned the collections was a result of not paying my cable bill (comcast/xfinity). I've been with Comcast since I was 19 (before it was Comcast, before Xfinity) and I'm now 74. I always have my monthly bills automatically paid from my bank account. When I called Xfinity about this they researched it and confirmed that I was NOT in collections and that I had a perfect payment history with them. When I tried to dispute it further with Equifax I go nowhere. Maybe it's a scam--I don't know. But Equifax is almost impossible to reach. I put a freeze on my Equifax credit report. I was a victim of ID theft about six years ago. The IRS and FBI told me to never share my DOB and Social Security number together in any personal paperwork unless I was guaranteed it was protected. For years, I have been requesting credit reports from the 3 reporting agencies online without any problems. Since a year has passed, it was time to request a credit report from Equifax. I still have the copy of last year's report from Equifax that I actually printed out from the online data. Equifax demanded that I send them my DOB and my SS# together in a letter, along with several other ID documents to verify my identity. I reported them to the Consumer Financial Protection agency bc I thought they were discriminating againt me since I was a victim of ID theft years ago. Equifax sent me the identical letter that I had to send this sensitive data thru the mail and not online like before where it was protected. Apparently, the people at Equifax do not understand how ID theft info is culled. All a person needs is your DOB and your SS# to steal your identity and open accounts or mortgages in your name. I cannot believe they are so stupid. And according to other clients, Equifax readily shares ALL of your personal data with third parties, which is illegal. If I were you, I would think twice abt counting on Equifax to protect your identity in any manner and would NEVER sign up for a service that asks me to surrender sensitive info that makes me vulnerable to ID theft. Equifax is great at collecting monthly dues but on a scale of 1-10, their customer service is a 2. I can not access my account and after 30 minutes with the first L1 customer service rep, 25 minutes with the second, I was told that my issue would have to be escalated to their L2 Technical Support. I expected to be transferred but instead I was told that I should receive a email within 1-3 business days to schedule a review of my issue by the L2 Technical Support team. I asked if there's no one available that can resolve my issue now, the response was that I had to be put on a list due availability....REALLY??????? read more

Is it possible to give them a zero? I called over and over again trying to have a fraud alert added to my account after some papers were stolen from my vehicle. I finally had to chose options that didn't really apply in order to get someone in the line. After confirming there is fraud yet, they tried to seel me a $25 a month monitoring service. When I rejected this, I was told that my score would not be protected if someone was able to commit fraud with my identification and credit cards. Nice service! Having dealt with all three credit rating companies for many years, I can say that Equifax is by far the worst. They have not improved since the massive 2017 breach. Their website is always down, they have limited phone customer service hours, and their online and telephone automated assistance always ends with "we are currently closed" or "mail [sic] to.... I called Equifax at their 888 number in order to have a credit freeze lifted while my lender verifies my credit score. The lender had attempted to get information before to no avail because of the credit freeze The call is automated and because I got to a point that I needed to speak with a Service Representative my call is transferred to a nice lady with a very heavy accent, she is in a call center in the Philippines, are you kidding me? I need to provide my entire Social Security number to someone in the Philippines? I am fully aware there is a lot of fraud going around in the US but why hire someone in a country thousands of miles away that then proceeds to ask me personal questions to identify me, which I am ok with, finally one of the questions is in regards to what credit card I closed in the past and how much was the balance before I closed the account. My response was that I couldnt remember what specific card I had closed and when but I was sure that the balance would have been zero. Se ask me for the name of the Bank that issued the credit card and I responded I didn't know and named 3 possible Banks or credit institutions and then she proceeded to tell me that I had failed to identify myself, are you kidding me? it is a gotcha question I cant call Atlanta because the call is routed to again some call center in India. No wonder there was a data breach with a large settlement against Equifax. I can't complain to anybody. That is the reason why I have a credit freeze, for things like this. In the next few days and while my freeze has been lifted I will have to monitor my credit very closely with the other bureaus. Equifax is reporting 30 points below all other reporting agencies. When I looked at their system, I found out that they list a different Social Security number with my account, AND roll both my debt and theirs together. I filed a dispute and some system must have auto-removed the issue. I was never contacted about it. 4 months later, Equifax sent an email that said they resolved the issue and reverted the account to having the WRONG SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER. They never even tried to contact me with investigation but have sent me at least 1 spam email a day since I had to sign up to dispute this. This company is a scam that should have their credit reporting abilities removed. UPDATE: I finally got a hold of Equifax, only when I gave them the wrong SSN, and they told me that there's nothing they can do unless I mail them my sensitive documents, and they can't guarantee any resolution. This company constantly tries to get you to sign up for a monthly monitoring with "Boost". You must select NO to a pop up each time you log in or you will be charge for a new membership ($24.99) without even knowing. Those boost points will stay on your credit as long as you continue to pay Equifax each month for that membership. Beware! Customer service is overseas. When you call, you will speak to an overseas agent. When you ask them about it, they have been instructed not to disclose that they are overseas or verify that they are outside the USA. You must "verify" your identity with these "agents" including all vital statistics and social security number. How safe can our information be when it's being transmitted and accessed offshore? How well are these "agents" vetted with background and security checks for our protection? When filing a dispute, do not do so over the phone. They are supposed to detail report exactly as stated by caller. However, language barriers cause many problems. Request a supervisor! Be advised the supervisor, who is US based, confirmed the overseas offices. Supervisor representative also confirmed the electronic notification of creditors related to any disputes. Both the overseas and US based representative suggested, encouraged and at times impaired the dispute process by strongly advising to contact the creditor regarding the dispute directly. FYI: In most cases, that resets the debt clock. They know this. Clearly there is no impartiality and the collusion between Equifax and creditors seems obvious. read more

I called 888-298-0045 customer care to do a temporary lift on a credit freeze. The recorded voice asked 4 id questions and 3 credit report questions from the past 5 years credit report. I couldn't answer the credit report question so I got stuck in the loop and can't get a hold of a life person. I made several attempts by calling different Equifax number but can't get a life person. I went to myequifax to create an account to request temporary lift of credit freeze. After I entered the same id info, the website replied I already have an account. So I requested to reset password, but it told me I don't have an account. I tried to create an account by entering the same info, but it tell me to call customer service. Be warned this is a very incompetent and poorly managed company responsible for reporting vital and critical credit information of US public. they do not follow Federal Guidelines and to save money recruit and hire their workforce cheap labor over seas compromising you safety and security. I believe EQUIFAX is a major liability to national security as it is not capable to provide accurate information. I generally don't like leaving negative reviews, but I'm making an exception because this is a truly terrible company. Their website is very buggy and very difficult to login to. It will tell you your password is incorrect (when it's definitely not) and also give you problems when you go to unfreeze your credit. Usually the website will only give you one option when you run into problems, which is to call their customer service. In my experience, their customer service has been very poor and unhelpful. Not to mention their hours are very limited and you have to wait on hold for long periods of time before getting a representative.
