I love this gym. I joined in July and i go all types of day and night.. usually in the am though. Even on crowded days its not that crowded. Showers are clean as i shower there more than home now. I love the steam room. All machines and benches are in good shape. Only thing they are missing is a kitchen as they still don't have that yet like they mentioned would take over that spot soon. Also, the mannequins in the front can go its weird..they need a better little intro setup there but its minor. WiFi is decent ...i notice drops in the locker room more than out on the floor. The trainers and staff are all pretty laid back and chill. The JP shakes are nice too. read more

This gym has gone downhill. For some reason now, they are heavily pushing their personal training services, to the point where they are turning a workout there into an unpleasant experience. How many times can I say that I'm not interested? I just want to do my workout in peace. I don't need creepy stalkers following me around the gym floor trying to strike up conversations and asking me about my workout to try to get me to signup for their personal training services. I also don't need weirdos asking me about my testosterone level. read more

This review is for, hands down, the best cycling class I've taken at a gym or studio - cycle power on Sunday morning by Angela Moore. As soon as I walked in and heard the Kygo/Whitney Houston version of Higher Love being played, I knew I was in for a treat (don't yuck my music taste, that is exactly the type of music I need for a spin class). She then rolled through a series of hits including N'Sync. Forty-five minutes of cardio never passed by so quickly. Ahem. Back to the gym. Location is in the fancy shopping district of Chestnut Hill. I liked how everything was just on the same floor so you only need to wander around for a bit in order to find what you need. Also appreciated the sizable seating area for lounging about if you just don't feel like working out. Lots of natural light coming from the windows. Quite busy on a weekend morning but I didn't notice any wait for the machines. Locker room was clean. Tons of equipment. You know the drill. Overall, aside from the exceptional spinning class, this one seems par for the course for Equinox. read more

Recently, I made a change in where I exercise from Lifetime to Equinox in Chestnut Hill and I couldn't be happier. I have spoken to the Managers and Trainers more on a regular basis in the 3 months I have joined Equinox vs the 12+ months at Lifetime. I feel welcomed and glad I am there. Exercising and taking care of myself has become a way of life, I do not know what I would do without it and Equinox's part in it. You will be happy you joined. read more

Love this gym. Great location and amenities. The staff is really welcoming and friendly. Everyone minds their business and is respectful of your space on the weight floor. Never have to wait for the equipment. What would make this location better would be adding charging stations for cars, a protein/smoothie bar, slightly longer hours, and upgrading some of the weight machines. read more

Equinox is everything I hate about health clubs. They make you call for information , you have to schedule a meeting for membership questions and the membership rules are predatory and designed to keep you locked in as long as possible. The equipment is OK but the club membership and the way it treats people is insulting. So why am I going back? They require vaccines ‍ Support gym membership bill of rights. No long term commitments, require online or email cancellation if online signup is available. read more

The men's locker room in the shower area and steam room have a very moldy smell. I have heard people talk about this for a few years and it has never improved. For me, I will not use the steam due to this. It smells like mold or a dry drain. The staff seem to not care about this. Otherwise it is a nice. read more

For an exclusive gym, this is a pretty pathetic representation of what an Equinox is supposed to be. Most of the classes aren't difficult and instructors (with the exception of a select few) are uninspired. The Spinning classes in particular are awful. Classes end early in the evening and they don't pair them well sequentially. Most of the trainers aren't in "trainer" shape. The locker rooms are rarely clean. The facilities in the women's locker room haven't been repaired (sauna and steam). Generally the staff is not friendly. The trainers do not introduce themselves to members who aren't clientele. Members feel as though they are putting trainers out if they ask for assistance. Trainers also seem to be narrow minded in their methodologies, putting down functional training and opting for heavy lifting. The only saving grace is the pool which is exquisite. read more

Like a lot of folks who live in the Newton area, I joined Equinox sight unseen 7 months before they opened. They offered a great promotion to lock in $20/mo off your monthly payment, and also waive the outrageous intro fees. I've been coming here since January and have to say it is a massive improvement over Boston Sports Club. Due to Wegman's being open now, the parking lot is pretty much always packed unless you go before work. Kind of a drag sometimes, but that's not the fault of EQ. The facility itself is immaculate. You don't feel like you're walking into a gym. It doesn't look like a gym and more importantly - doesn't smell like a gym. The main foyer is just a waiting area and front desk - the gym itself is upstairs. Upstairs they have a really nice (albeit pricey) juice/shake bar and a small seating area surrounded by the membership offices. The fitness floor is large and the equipment is all spaced out. For cardio, they have a TON of treadmills, ellipticals, and bikes. The locker rooms are always clean and pretty nice for a gym locker room. I don't shower at the gym so I can't tell you what that area is like. I just wish they would play some more masculine music in the changing area. They have some coffee-shop playlist, and it's just terribly traumatizing being surrounded by naked older gentlemen while listening to a Jason Mraz acoustic sesh. They have everything you need for strength training but don't expect to be blown away. The emphasis here is group aerobics classes, yoga, barre, and the like. There is also no hot tub in the pool area - somewhat surprising given the $150/mo pricetag. The WiFi here is great, I must say. The music selection on the fitness floor is pretty bad, so you'll def be getting your money's worth out of your Spotify account. As others have mentioned the contract is literally a marriage license. If you sign up for a year, be prepared to pay for a year. I think the only way to get out of your contract is to die. The only annoyance I've experienced is that the sales office is very high pressure with regards to selling you personal training. I feel like they just recently gave up on me, but for a while it was once a week. The personal training prices are high (I think $120/hr) and they will try to sell you packages that cost thousands. I've seen the trainers in the gym and they are fresh out of college. It seems EQ has their own formula for training which involves whatever is hip at the time. Expect lots of kettelbells and jumping since Crossfit is so hot right now. One of the things that's hard to describe to people is the culture at a gym. At BSC Wellesley, the culture was more akin to a Jewish nursing home. EQ is definitely more my scene. For the most part, the crowd is attractive and clearly into fitness. I've encountered some snobs; but I guess that is to be expected given the area. I'll probably try Sports Club of LA next year, assuming it doesn't take a court order to get out of my contract. The good news is that we no longer have to settle for BSC, or drive to Natick for Gold's. read more

Originally signed up because I loved the decor, facilities, amenities and classes. And I still do, however I am displeased at the staff and service. And the most difficult and disappointing aspect of my experience is in the process of cancellation. Due to a move out of state, I need to cancel. However the process is difficult, requires a list of documentation of the move, etc. Since when is a gym membership cancellation more difficult than breaking my lease?! And why do their staff have different feedback on cancellation policies and procedure?! The difficulty in this process is why I don't want to reconsider re-joining Equinox post my move. read more

Equinox is the best health club I have ever joined and I have tried them all. The manager Lindsey is incredible, helpful, professional , and fair, she will go out of her way to keep the clientele happy. The staff is awesome solicitous and great to deal with. The locker rooms are clean and I like the kiehls products. I love the classes and the variety, the mats are cleaned after every use. The trainers could be a little more courteous to others working out around them. I highly recommend Equinox Chestnut Hill a great place to work out. read more

Came here with a friend on a pass. Very sharp, and modern. The monthly fee is quite hefty though, so I'm having trouble justifying it, but may ante up. I usually go to BSC, but it's so small and cramped with everyone liking up for the next piece of equipment. I enjoy hitting the gym 3-4 x a week so this. investment may be worth it. read more

This place is so worth it. The gym is so clean and nice inside that Its a treat coming here to work out. The massage staff is also really great - so much better than Massage Envy (where I used to go.) I want to particularly recommend James Rosenblum. This gym is really nice a little pricey but not to pricey the staff is really nice. The lockers are great the showers are a good size the products the have are kiehls which is a nice brand and the machines are really clean and new. I love how they have a smootgie juice bar inside and a sweetgreen downstairs for before or after you workout they also have eucalyptus towels which are nice after your finished working out and your all sweaty. read more

I love this place. I will sit in Route 9 traffic for 20 minutes to go here because it's that clean, spacious and beautiful and the classes are that good. Qualified, personable instructors, amazing steam room, immaculately clean locker room, and the pool is much better than the ones closer to where I live. I've belonged to other gyms and none of them has felt like the oasis that Equinox is. I look forward to going there. It's an indulgence. I work out more, enjoy it more, and completely relax in the escapism of the steam room afterward. I've taken over 20 unique classes here and am consistently impressed by the knowledge of instructors and how energizing they are. I paid half as much for the last gym I went to, but if I only went a quarter of the time and didn't enjoy it... was it really a deal? read more

How is this Equinox staying in business, when there is a Life Time Fitness about 400 yards away that is basically the same price, but is better in every respect? I'm scratching my head? Life Time has more equipment, newer equipment, nicer equipment than Equinox. Life Time has much bigger facility, more space than Equinox. Life time has a much, much much nicer locker room, much bigger, with much nicer steam room and sauna, and bigger locker room area, just nicer floors, everything, not even close. And the staff at Equinox, they are fine, ok. But Life Time staff, just so much better, so much more bought into the company, Many of them have met the company CEO and founder, they all know of him. Most at Equinox could not even tell you who started the company or runs it. Where this impacts is the founder culture, caring everything done right I could go on, but really, will ask this rhetorical question of anyone, what does Equinox have that at the same price would possibly make you go there rather than Life Time at this Chesnut Hill location? read more

It's kind of limited as gyms go...no hanging heavy bags, one set of really cheap rings and no real high bars for pull-ups. Today I wanted to do some bar muscle ups and pullovers, I had to place an olympic bar on a Stevens Rack. The place lacks padding for fun stuff, the weight stuff is clean and shiny because it's all new. The ceiling is low but they have a Queenax cage, I stepped on one of the bars (with my 140 lb.) and the bar broke off. A trainer wannabe stupidly told me that it had broken earlier in the day and someone put it back. The TRX facilities are functional. As a ranked TRX pro, I can tell you that none of the trainers know much about TRX. Some of them came to me with questions. For me, the Queenax and TRX suspension trainers are what I use most, Wellesley BSC has a real TRX rack and keeps the suspension trainers in good shape. They have high bars for muscle ups and straight pull-ups. The wifi at Equinox is good. The Q-tips, shampoo, towels and razors are free is you can call a $160 (a a special price, I was a transfer) a month gym a fair price for admission. I live and shop in Chestnut Hill, so it has the location, but as gyms go, I'd go with the Golds in Natick. You won't even get a spot out of the self-absorbed clientele at Equinox. As gyms go, the trainers are good guys, some of them, depending on your standards are good trainers. Again, I'd go with BSC Wellesley or Gold's Natick if I weren't so lazy. Probably Gold's, they have the most stuff and a really good clientele. According to my phone I live about 800' from Equinox. I don't park, I just walk there. Location, location, location. I wish Reebok would open a gym near by, I'd jump ship in a heart beat. If you have to drive there, seek life elsewhere. read more

Nice enough gym but the company policy is ridiculous. I only wanted to use the gym for a month before going back to college but no one told me of the year obligation and 45 day notice I must give to cancel, hence I am unfairly being charged for 2 months while I cannot access the gym whatsoever. I talked to the managers and they are nice but not being very considerate of this issue and I wish this could have been solved more fairly and reasonably. I will most likely be finding another gym after this. read more

There are definitely some pros to this gym. Their equipment is top notch, facilities are clean and spacious, and they have some of the best group classes in the area. If this location were more convenient for me, I likely would have remained a member. HOWEVER... I was originally a member of Equinox in NYC. Transferred my membership to Chestnut Hill early May when I moved. I checked in NYC when my 12 month membership was expiring, and they confirmed it was May 21st. When I transferred my membership to Chestnut Hill, they also confirmed it was May 21st. Since there aren't any Equinox locations in Boston that are convenient for me, I planned to join (and did join) a new gym once my Equinox membership expired. May 21st comes around, and I get charged for another month. I called my membership advisor who confirmed that my 12-month membership did expire May 21st, but at that time it had switched over to a month-to-month membership, which required 45 days notice to cancel. Umm, what? I feel like this would have been a great thing to say when I asked when my membership expired! I escalated this to an assistant manager, who took 6 days to get back to me and confirmed that I would still be charged for the next 45 days and would not backdate my cancellation, despite the misinformation provided to me by 2 different membership advisors. She initially didn't even backdate the cancellation to the 6 days that it took her to respond to my question. Needless to say, I've been left with a pretty bad taste in my mouth and would not join another Equinox gym based on this experience. For a gym that is supposed to be premium and high end, they have some of the worst policies and customer service I've ever seen. It's pretty low to misinform your members and then continue to charge them for services they they do not want and are not using. The best part? My new gym is reimbursing me for the full amount that Equinox charged me. That's how you do customer service. read more

Don't waste your time or money here. Yes, the facility is great and a couple classes are good, but that's the 1 star. The locker room is always out of body lotion and there is usually a wait to use the shower. Overall, the gym is full of arrogance. The staff is gossipy and comes across fake. You get a couple personal training sessions with membership and they teach you basic techniques and the trainers they place you with are pretty junior. If you really want to get members to get training packages, put them with someone who will challenge you. If you have issues, it will take several calls to the GM to receive a call back. Even with 2 calls and an email I didn't get a response. Joined another gym and I love it! Make sure to get guest passes so you know the gym is for you. Membership will wine and dine you to get you to join. Don't say I didn't warn you:) read more

So worth the wait! I have been a member of Equinox Gyms for four years and have been to many different Equinox locations in Boston and around the country -- this new gym in Chestnut Hill has it all! Beautiful interior with plenty of sunlight, great open floor plan, and plenty of machines. Plus all the signature fantastic Equinox classes including Barre, Spinning, Yoga, etc. Not to mention they have a pool and a spa (not yet open). I took one of the new Barre Method Figure Four Classes today and loved it -- not to mention I had one of my favorite instructors who also teaches at the Equinox in the Financial District. The locker rooms are gorgeous and the lounge area by the juice bar is very conducive to plugging in your computer to get some work done, checking email, etc. I'll definitely be back! read more

The gym is awesome but the trainers are garbage. I went to check out the gym and saw a trainer I actually know. He was talking about rolling joints and doing lines of coke with another trainer. What kind of trainers does this place hire? I don't recommend this gym to anyone. read more

Friendly staff - more blue shirts than other locations generally Cons - which for me are sticking points 1. No real dip bar / 'Captain's Chair' 2. No 35 lb plates - bumper or else - really? 3. No sleds, even though the space is large. 4. No chains although to be fair I've only seen chains at Sports Club locations 5.
