True Performance Training came as recommendation from a friend, and Filipe Cotas (the owner and…read moretrainer) did not disappoint! I was looking for someone who would work with my 14 year-old brother on the 5x5 program that his school had assigned for the upcoming soccer session. Filipe was fantastic. He modified the program to better fit my brother's soccer needs and was incredibly patient and down-to-earth. My brother worked with him for about 8 weeks (roughly 3x a week)and felt huge difference during tryouts. The facility is brand new and well equipped plus Filipe's pricing is incredibly reasonable. You pay as you go and there is no need to sign up for an annoying gym membership. Here is what my brother has to say about his time with Filipe: Filipe not only helped me to become a stronger person but a more determined one, as his deep knowledge of fitness combined with his welcoming personality and unending patience created an environment of hard work and perseverance. His emphasis on proper form taught me the importance of not only the weight of what I was lifting but the technique I was using to lift that weight. Additionally, Filipe did not judge me but rather encouraged me to keep going when I made mistakes, giving me pointers to do so, all leading me to not only obtaining the strength I needed but the knowledge and work ethic to continue to develop. So in closing, Filipe's knowledge and understanding of fitness not only create a friendly environment to work out in but a mindset centered on hard work and dedication. P.S. - I recommend arriving 5 minutes early for sessions to accommodate yourself before Filipe starts working with you. Also, do not be afraid to speak up if you are not certain about something, at any point during your work out. Finally, push yourself -- no matter how exhausting it may be, Filipe will be right be your side to encourage you the whole way. I began to see a huge change in him, pics of him at the gym, what he eats, his motivation. I decided to reach out to him last summer as 1. I was inspired by his posts and 2. I saw that he was offering personal training and diet plans. My weight and sedentary lifestyle were wreaking havoc not only on my body but on my mind and my self esteem. I reached out to him via Facebook, he immediately got back to me with his phone number. I called him and he asked me questions about my lifestyle and diet, he was very kind, non judgmental and said he'd put together a meal plan for me. We made an appointment to start training, or as I call it now, ass kicking. I arrived at his work space and he started small with stretching and weights. I spent a lot of time like a flounder, laying on the floor, he put fans on me at my request (it was August, extremely hot and I was extremely out of shape) we laughed.. a lot. We still do. I did quit for a month or so.. not because of him but because I was having some personal troubles. He reached out to me during that period just to check in, just to see if I was doing ok. I finally decided to go back in November? and I learned, to his credit, that it's not about getting skinny, it's not about looking like I did 20, even 10 years ago, (I turned 50! In October) it's about taking care of yourself, mentally and physically. He pushes me past the limit that I think I'm capable of and I'm always amazed that I can, in fact, do what he thinks I can. I hurt my elbow last week and I could barely lift 5 lbs.. he kept telling me that the more I stretch and work my elbow the better it will feel. I told him that he was trying to kill me (I say that after every set) but lo and behold, my elbow started feeling better. This was last week and I have absolutely no pain in it now. Jake isn't just a personal trainer or meal plan guy, he's a kind, compassionate, funny guy. Very motivational. We talk about all kinds of stuff and laugh, again, a lot. He doesn't sugarcoat things (which personally, I respect) he'll send a text saying how proud he is of me if it's deserved. I strongly suggest that if you're looking to lose weight, feel better about yourself or just feel healthy again, please reach out to him. Not only will you gain a trainer and meal plan guy, you'll gain a friend who's truly invested in your well being.

We got there at 9 am for a 9:30 class. There was one other woman waiting along with us, and now that I remember, it was the day after daylight savings and we all thought the instructor didn't set his/her clock forward because the woman waiting with us said the instructors are usually early as are other people taking the class. The instructor got there are 9:20/9:25 and we didn't know but we needed to do some paperwork pertaining to our health and make up a card with our name, number, etc. My friend had printed her Groupon out and this was an issue because she was told it needed to be marked "redeemed" on the app on her phone. Luckily for her, she did have her phone out in the car, but they should really state that they don't accept the print outs for the Groupon and that they only accept the Groupon if it's on the mobile app. If this was stated on the Groupon, I'm sorry, we didn't see it. But as far as we knew it didn't mention anything like that. All of this made it so that the class started late and therefore we were late entering into the actual studio so we had to split up. We got there early so we could all be next to each other, but it didn't happen that way, unfortunately. As for the class, it wasn't really de-stressing or relaxing. The instructor, while nice enough, was kind of all over the place and out of it... She'd go to help someone with a pose then get back to her mat and forget where she was at, or she'd try to tell us what muscle a certain pose was working but couldn't remember stating "I'm a yoga instructor, I should know." Maybe out of it due to the time change? I don't know. I tried to concentrate on my breath, posture, and relax but it was hard because I felt all over the place with everything. I'll go back at a different time and day, as I still have 9 classes, but after that I probably won't continue at this studio as I found one closer to where I live.

I had just enough stamina to make it from my desk to the closest vending machine and back. I was at my all time heaviest and needed a change, so I turned to Lauren Lauren's approach is gentle and encouraging. If you are looking for the kind of trainer who screams in your face and frightens you into compliance, look elsewhere. However, Lauren WILL challenge you. She WILL test your limits, but in a kind way. In my case, I would push myself extra because I didn't want to let her down. Lauren has her own studio. This is awesome because you don't have to worry about looking stupid in front of randos the way you would at a regular gym. I was able to really focus on exercising without feeling self conscious. The space is on the smallish side, but very well equipped, with everything needed for strength training, an exercise bike, treadmill, and a plethora of extras (balance board, bosu, stability balls, etc...) About 4 months after I initially started training, I was down 32 lbs and feeling good. My stamina and endurance had greatly improved. About 7 months after I started training, I was doing things in the gym that I thought I would never do--the kind of exercises that only "atheletes" could do. I also worked with Lauren throughout my ENTIRE pregnancy. She knew which exercises to modify and which to avoid. I was actually strength training with Lauren the very day my daughter was born. I truly believe that the training I had during my pregnancy helped me keep my strength and stamina up through labor and delivery. I don't get to train with her as much these days since I moved away from the area. However, she does provide written copies of workouts, so I still use those. If you are looking to make a change for your health, I highly recommend giving Lauren a call.

I can tell you that THAT WAS A BAD DECISION!! (Don' get me wrong - Grafton AF isn't bad) Now, i don't know what happened back in 2012/13, but those postings are NOT for today's Medway AF! It's possibly one of the cleanest gyms that i've been to, with a great variety of equipment to use... ranging from cardio (treadmills, ellipticals, stairmasters & a jacob's ladder, if i'm not mistaken), to machines, to a wide variety of free weight options! Now, it's not a HUGE gym, but for it's size (and it's not tiny), it offers a lot of options for you. And to my surprise, it has an "outdoor gym" - but i've been hitting this gym at 5am, that is only open when there's staff so... makes sense. I'm driving in from CT for my job, so if\when I move to Mass, Medway AF will be my new "home gym"!

I spoke with Chris over the phone in order to register my child, and he told me that the confirmation emails and the email to start the online training portion would be sent directly to my son. I took notes from the phone call: he gave me a date by which I had to cancel, and told me about the pre-participation swim test that had to be passed before participating in the lifeguarding course. Now, the swim test was not just " can you swim a lap in the pool?" No, it was swim 150 yards without touching the sides of the pool with your hands, tread water for 2 minutes without your arms, dive down 7 feet and pick up a brick, return it to the surface, then swim with it 50 yards. So this was not your average swim test, and this info was not communicated in advance. Unfortunately, my son did not pass the test and was unable to participate in the lifeguard course. While he was working trying his best to complete the tasks, he felt like the ADULT IN CHARGE WAS MAKING FUN OF HIM. I don't know if this was Chris or not, but there is no reason that a 15-year-old should be made to feel bad for trying something and not making it. The following day after the swim test, I called the facility and asked for a full refund for the course since my son would not be participating in it, and it was explained to me then that the refund is 50%, because "they can't resell his spot." Now that was unsatisfactory to me because that was not explained in advance, and they claim that that information was sent in an email to my child. This is unacceptable because a 15-year-old cannot be expected to make decisions and judgements regarding a financial commitment that is communicated in an email. I spoke to Chris who was fairly respectful and communicated the policy. He was not able to solve the problem, and I asked to speak with his supervisor. He connected me to Brad. I told Brad the situation, and he proceeded to scoff at me, make fun of my son, question his intelligence, and question my intelligence. It was an extremely negative interaction with no sense of customer service. This whole experience has left a very bad feeling with me. I feel like they stole $200 from me, that they only send the email to the teenager so that they can do this very manipulative practice. Terrible facility.
