David, the training manager, and Jenna, the personal trainer, were amazing to work with. I'm so glad I met David. He really listened to my goals and physical limitations and recommended Jenna as the best fit. Before training with Jenna, I was dealing with recurring pain, stiffness, muscle strains, and diastasis recti. Since working with her, all of those issues have improved significantly. I became much stronger and achieved incredible body recomp results. At my 1st check in the number on the scale barely moved but I'd lost 6 inches of measurable fat from around my body and replaced lbs of fat w muscle. That's why the inbody scan is so important. I got it done beginning, middle, and end and invested in a smart scale for home. Beyond the physical results, Jenna gave me the knowledge and confidence to train on my own, and I've continued applying what she taught me. Working with Jenna was hands down the best investment in my physical health. I highly recommend meeting with David and allowing him to guide you toward the trainer who best fits your goals and needs. I can't really say this is a great location but if you are in the area and is convenient it is a good spot. It is a bit of a hassle having to go 3 floors down in a somewhat narrow environment - if you have a large SUV or lift truck, I wouldn't think you can fit. Having been to numerous of their locations, this equinox is okay. No issues with the staff or trainers at all, they're all friendly and social. The classes and instructors are great as well. But the location itself is meh. They aren't open late and they're closed on Sundays. I also hate the parking situation and how complicated it can be to get to the building itself with DTLA roads. On top of that, it's only 2 hours free parking. Anything over you have to pay. I wish they had a sauna... and some of their equipment could be upgraded. It's never too crowded, the trainers and workers are nice, facilities are clean, and classes are never too crowded. Parking is hard to figure out the first time, it's off flower st. - the teeny tiny entrance that says the building name which is four fifty four or something like that? Maybe four forty four since that's the building #. It's free validation for 2 1/2 hours, which is a 1/2 hour more than other locations! Enough time for a full workout, stretch, shower, and yap session with the trainers haha. In the summer, they have happy hours on their terrace where they do things like complimentary massages, vendors giving samples of their products, drinks, etc. It's a pretty nice perk! If you get a membership, definitely see if you have a corporate or school discount, as that can bring the cost down! I was interested in finding a good quality gym that fits my needs. I came across equinox DTLA by doing a search of surrounding gyms in my area. I was offered a day pass to check out the gym. I will say I was hesitant after seeing the atmosphere of the gym. There were many working class and older crowd. I'm both (not older) of those but the vibe was just off. When you walk in there's a juice/smoothie bar to your right and also a athletic clothing store (alo, lulu lemon, etc) further back around the corner and the check-in desk directly in front. Once you scan in, you go inside the gym area to the left. The gym area is quite small or it may be the layout is weird. They also have a Pilates studio and another studio for daily classes. Further down you have a sitting area and the men and women locker rooms. The locker rooms were nice. They offer full size towels for showering, hair essentials and many other necessities that I haven't found in my current gym. Inside each locker room there's a small hot tub, a steam room, and a dry sauna. The showers are really nice with quality body wash. Around the corner there's another workout studio for larger classes. They also have onsite massage therapist rooms (not included in membership). There's a set of stairs you go up into a larger workout area with various workout machines/equipment. That area is larger than the workout area when you walk in. They have cold or hot small towel stations throughout the gym which is nice. Overall, I would suggest this gym if you're more reserved and don't want the loud gym vibes. Me personally, I just didn't think it fit what I was looking for. For the price of the membership I was expecting a little more. It felt a little depressing in the gym in my opinion. I guess I was looking for something a little upbeat and inviting. I might check out another equinox location to see if I have a different experience elsewhere. read more

This is one of the nicest Equinox gyms in SoCal. It's very clean and spacious. Staff is friendly. Parking is validated for 2.5hrs in the garage below. Earth bar is now open. The machines and weights are well maintained. I enjoy the steam room and spacious studio areas of the gym. They do not have a pool or basketball court. They do have a patio with nice downtown views. Pre pandemic.. Equinox was my gym for the last 6 years where I was a regular. Gotta burn those Yelp calories. Love this place since it was always clean, never had issues with broken equipment. The other DTLA gyms are somewhat dirty and hella packed. I've head stories of the homeless at the other gyms. It's a bit pricey but well kept. The only thing is this location is a bit small and the equipment is lacking. People here are pretty friendly. I've been a member for a little over a year now. Of the commercial Gyms in DTLA I liked that it had a peaceful & modern aesthetic & less over crowding than other gyms. The parking wasn't bad once you found out where it was & what routes to take to get there ( make sure to get parking validation otherwise you are paying for someone else's dinner) The classes were great, I did sound bath & yoga. The training programs they offer are also great but an additional cost. The cons were that in all the time I've worked out there it never felt welcoming. DTLA is an area where everyone is on edge, maybe they should have a better checkin process or layout so staff can focus on their clients instead of treating everyone like they're not sure if they are a member. Its just awkward when you're greeted every time with... let me see your phone and then you switch to the right side of the gym to buy a drink or check out the store and they are checking again to see if you are a member (within the same hour). It's rarely hi welcome back, hey, have a great day. The staff changes so much and the clientele is so transient, they really don't know how long anyone has been a client for so everyday they have to assume that you are not a member for security reasons. Other cons, not all the equipment works. Most of my membership the row machines didn't work and some of the treadmills still have issues with incline and changing speeds ( mostly effects you when it's busy & your looking for a machine only to find that it doesn't work properly lol) One time when I was brand new...I locked my clothes & phone in a locker, sometimes the locks don't register your combo, if the dials aren't aligned perfectly. So I was stuck for 20 minutes waiting for staff to find coverage for the front desk...lol I came from the steam room so all I had was a towel and I wasn't sure if they forgot, but I wasn't about to walk out into the gym with just a towel... thankfully one of the cleaning staff members was able to check for me. The best part about this experience is about a week later the same thing happened to someone else, then a week after that, it happened to my boyfriend. It was epically comical. The solution given to me at the time was I could purchase a personal locker so it wouldn't happen to me again. They fixed most of the lockers now, but it was one of the highlights of how I was paying for a plethora of awkward moments. The really sad thing is that in my time here at Equinox DTLA it was one of the best gyms in DTLA. There are others that are way worse in my opinion because the standards of DTLA are so low. If I were to ignore that I have knowledge of other gyms outside of DLTA, Equinox DTLA is relatively a 5star gym for what's available in the area. But the reality is I have lived a life outside of DTLA and experienced better gyms and better Equinox locations...so if your like me the overall feeling is your paying to feel like a cog in their machine, your membership includes feeling gypped and undervalued. So I'd recommend sticking to the other Equinox locations or finding a boutique training gym or personal trainer outside of equinox ( for a better sense of community), or even just pay more for a fancier apartment in DTLA that has a luxurious gym ( it's about the same cost upgrade), because this one will make you question the entire experience. It made me realize that no amount of money could actually improve my experience here. I will say that if you don't live in DTLA but just come to DTLA for work, it could be a great way to add value to your membership given that you spend most of your time at one of the other Equinox locations. It's probably a great in between gym to make sure you get your workout in throughout the week, but like I said it's a terrible home base gym because it's doesn't provide a sense of belonging and all the inconveniences add up. The vibe isn't always bad, but it's enough where I wish I cancelled my membership sooner because it actually de-motivated me to workout & motivated me to move out of DTLA (after living here for almost a decade). Plus if you do cancel your membership , make sure to do it sooner than later because they do not pro-rate and they charge mid month. I validated my ticket and went to leave lot only to see I was being charged $24 and then be yelled at and berated by the parking attendant because equinox of course doesn't let you know you can't stay longer than 2 hours..... I would never have signed up for this location knowing that but they tell you parking is free LOL Parking attendants are rude and the whole parking lot is a six foot tall dungeon hell hole. 3.5 DTLA location is like a diet Coke. It's drinkable, but no one actually enjoys a diet Coke. And if you do, you're either diabetic or lying. This location is ok for commuting/fast workout in the area before work. Pasadena, Glendale, even Westwood are higher on my list. This place is definitely a no judgement zone, quiet, not crowded, over 70 group fitness classes available (never crowded) machines will always be available, on site on the floor fitness trainers available to assist with any need you may have both on and off the floor. Did I forget how the locker rooms are to die for??!!! Steam room is immaculate and they are fully stocked with Kiehls products. It's definitely the exclusivity I've been looking for. First and foremost, it's important to state that I've had gym memberships with 24HR fitness, LA fitness, and John Reed fitness. I'm a veteran getting back into working out and up my game. Parking was very easy, there's plenty of spaces (including handicap spaces) which was a good sign. Upon entering the Equinox, the first thing I experienced was as an incredibly friendly staff that were attentive and able to answer all my questions as I dropped in for a surprise tour as I was interested in starting a membership after being treated poorly at John Reed. Within 5 minutes, I met with Tim D. Who gave a stunning presentation of the overall facility. He was well spoken, very friendly, dressed sharp, and knowledgeable of all the equipment. In addition, I was blown away with the magnificent level of cleanliness throughout the installation especially with the men's locker room. The lockers come with prebuilt locks, the showers have opaque glass for privacy, and the sauna is an outstanding addition to the locker room. In addition, they have everything for a mobile professional such as shaving cream, disposable razors, etc. As far as selection of equipment goes, there's an impeccable amount of isometric and free weight machines. There's also a wide selection of stair masters, ellipticals, and tread mills to choose from. While I personally haven't attended any of the classes yet, there's a massive selection to choose from boxing to Pilates to yoga, etc. After signing up for my membership I hit a great workout and called John Reed to cancel my membership on my way home. Disclaimer: I am 23 years old and have never been motivated to be a Karen and write a bad review, but this last instance with this location annoyed me so bad. I've been a member for more than 2 years now, and this location is definitely more private, has an amazing cleaning staff, and has really great instructors like Rocco Stowe, Chrissy Gonzalez, and Jose Alvarado. Without these three things, I would've been long gone. BUT. Management and the front desk show absolutely no appreciation for their members. Here are some reasons: 1. You're only allowed 2 guest passes per YEAR after paying $265 A MONTH. I understand wanting to be branded as exclusive, but it's not that serious. Can I have at least 5? I've even had some friends get memberships, and even then, I'm only allowed 2 passes a YEAR. 2. There's only been 1 instance in the 2 years of my membership that I needed to pause my membership for a month, and they charged a $50 fee to my account just to pause it. I emailed management to ask if they could consider waiving that fee, and they said only if I show a letter from a DOCTOR showing that either a family member or I am in the hospital. Like??? Is it that deep? Is Equinox going to go bankrupt if you waive that fee, Franklin? Lastly, my 13th reason. My phone was at 3% today, and I go to the gym enough to establish some kind of rapport with the front desk. So in my head, I thought that they wouldn't have a problem if I asked to leave my phone there to charge. As I approached the desk, I saw several unused chargers perfect to fit and revive my dying phone. I asked, "Hey, can I leave my phone to charge here." He gave a sassy glance to the "used" charger and said, "sorry, we don't have one available." You don't have ONE available? What do ya'll use to click away on your personal phones all day? Not even one in the breakroom? Surely, the iPads could survive for 30 minutes without a charger. But no, my phone and patronage are not worthy of any charger at that establishment. I needed a set of athletic clothes because I needed a quick workout in between work meetings and didn't have any. There was no one in the shop for the entire time I had free from work during the store's operating hours because she was on lunch break. That's fine, employees should be able to take lunch breaks, but the problem is a gym that charges 200+ dollars for a membership and is too tight fisted to hire a second store employee to accurately offer the amenities the gym promises. I've been a member at this location for almost two years now, so I've probably established an accurate estimation of the club's value by now. Here's what I've observed... The Good: - Signing up was an easy process. My membership advisor was friendly and informative, gave a comprehensive tour, and patiently answered any and all questions I had. I didn't feel pressured into joining, which made me feel more comfortable signing up same day. - Overall cleanliness is consistently top-notch. Even when the locker rooms are packed, there's always an attendant wiping surfaces, restocking towels, etc. The workout spaces look sleek and modern, and people generally pick up after themselves (mostly). - The men's locker room (including the steam room) is pretty spacious compared to some other Equinox locations. In almost two years, I've only had to wait for the shower once during the evenings. - Free parking for 2.5 hours, which is more than is provided at some other locations (the Pasadena Equinox is limited to 2 hours). - The clientele are for the most part respectful and mindful of others. The diversity is also a plus. - Good variety of classes with enthusiastic instructors. The meh: Once you've been here long enough, you start noticing little annoyances that you wouldn't expect given the premium you pay. - Some equipment isn't well-maintained. The LifeFitness treadmills on the second floor all have some kind of defect in their monitors: one had its TV channels mislabeled, another won't even let you change channels, another shows nothing but static... and they've never been fixed in the 1+ year I've been here, so I no longer expect them to be fixed any time soon. Not something that ruins a workout, but something you'd hope wouldn't be an issue at a place you're paying $200+ a month for. - Lockers (at least in the men's room) are dusty and seem neglected. Though the janitorial staff are great at maintaining the public spaces, they seem to ignore the lockers. One had a dirty tissue in it for weeks. - The chilled eucalyptus towels on the first floor are almost always lukewarm, because the fridge door is always left open. Tip: Always grab one from the second level. - This location has more limited hours than others; they're closed on Sundays but make up for it by letting members use some of the other clubs on that day. I actually enjoy this as it allows one to experience other Socal locations. - The gym is smaller than some other locations, but still has enough for everyone. At least during the evenings, it never feels too crowded (compared to other fitness chains) - The parking lot is annoying (you have to drive around an entire floor to get to the lower floor, which takes time), and sometimes the parking valet blocks off the "C" level for no given reason. Always do self-parking. The Bad: - The club recently switched the razors in the locker rooms to a cheap, low-quality brand that left me with a lot of cuts. This appears to be a company-wide change, so not a criticism of this location itself, but a disappointing sign of diminishing value. - The front desk staff for the most part don't seem particularly friendly or welcoming. Your mileage may vary, as I've noticed a few of them tend to greet certain patrons (usually white or conventionally good-looking) with bigger smiles and greater enthusiasm than others. It makes for an awkward and demoralizing vibe upon entering the club when your 'hi' sometimes goes unacknowledged, met with a silent stare. - You get one complimentary personal fitness training session a year, but it's clearly meant to convince you to purchase more sessions (at a jaw-dropping price point). It's not even hidden; when I told a trainer that I wasn't interested in taking the free session because I didn't want to lead them on when I didn't have the budget for a personal trainer, they respectfully acknowledged it and left it at that. My 'complimentary session' goes unused to this day. ---- Overall, I've had a mostly positive experience at this location. It hits all the basics for your workout, and the locker room provides you with everything you need (towels, soaps, shampoos, moisturizer, etc) so all you need to bring are your clothes. The minor inconveniences and sometimes less-than-friendly vibe do take their toll though, and makes one reconsider the value they're getting out of one of the most expensive gym memberships in the country. They increase your membership fee every year, and as far as I know, it's unavoidable, even as the value of the Equinox brand deflates. I usually go to Century city equinox but downtown one is little closer to me and went here for 2 days and dont really like it alot. HUGE difference from the century city one. Every thing seems very old and not so clean. Used razors in the showers and used towels piled up even tho theres not much people. No dry sauna. Couple workout machines they dont even have compared to century city one. Equipments are rusty and old and the gym is lacking AC or somewhat air. Definitely can see why the century city one is 110$ more expensive than other locations. The parking is little annoying to go down to level C. read more

I love it here! Don't believe the other reviews! I have been coming to this gym for a couple of months now and it has been such a safe haven for me. The staff is kind and attentive. From the jump, they have been consistently approachable and helpful. Starting with LaJuan who onboarded me and explained all the benefits of the gym so thoroughly. He's always very nice when I see him at the gym. The best part of this gym is my amazing trainer Eliza Soriano! She has been a beacon of light for me. I have really struggled with being more active and comfortable at the gym and she helped me feel more confident and at ease during workouts. I really look forward to seeing her and learning new exercises and ways to be healthier. She always comes with such a great attitude and is my biggest cheerleader. She pushes me without being degrading and respects my input. She's always willing to go the extra mile to support me and make sure I'm progressing. If you're paying $250 per month for a membership to a gym, you have a certain level of expectations about the facilities and amenities that you receive. However, that's where Equinox Downtown LA falls short. The cost of a membership to the Downtown location is very expensive, as it is with all Equinox locations, however the Downtown location is much more crowded and has less amenities than the other Los Angeles locations, so it feels like you don't get as much value out of your membership at the Downtown location. I personally like to swim as a part of my workout, and relax in a dry sauna or Jacuzzi and I cannot do any of this so with my membership at Downtown. This is the closest location to me and it's disappointing that it does not match up with the great offerings in West Los Angeles and elsewhere. I've been an Equinox member at the Downtown location for about a year now and I've noticed that while more and more members are being added, the staffing has not kept up with the number of people now visiting the facility. I was able to check out other Equinox facilities around Los Angeles and was shocked at how different they were in terms of atmosphere, facilities, amenities and perhaps most importantly: space. The Downtown location simply isn't large enough to accommodate the current membership, the men's locker rooms are tiny and cramped compared to Westwood and the Sports Club locations, as evidenced by how dirty the locker rooms have gotten in the course of the year I have been a member. Towel boxes are not emptied frequently enough and are usually overflowing with used towels which can also be found strewn across the floor and left by other inconsiderate members. There is frequently water on the ground, and the Steam Room is, more often than not, filled to capacity so that there is nowhere to sit inside. It's difficult to find an open shower after a workout and I find myself waiting in line for a shower to open up more and more these days. One of the treadmills has not been able to connect to any TV channels in about a month, and has yet to be repaired. You'll find showers out of commission pretty frequently and the pumps for the soaps and shampoos often don't work. Yesterday, I almost got run over by a trainer and his client doing kickboxing in the walkways. I'll say it again, this location just doesn't have enough space. With respect to amenities missing at this location, yes, you get the Eucalyptus scented towels and the Kiehl's toiltries in the lockers, However, the Westwood location has a large sitting area with a flat screen TV inside the locker room as well as a shoe polish machine where this one does not. The Sports club has a large hot tub that you can enter off the locker room as well as a dry sauna and this one does not. I particularly like the layout of the Westwood location, in having the facility span across multiple levels in the building, with a two-lane swimming pool on a separate floor. The Westwood locker room is massive compared to Downtown. Here, the lockers are stacked so tightly together that it is difficult to get ready without bumping into other people. The drinking fountains in Downtown supply the room temperature water, which after a hard workout isn't as pleasant as the ice-water you get at other locations. I think expanding to an additional floor in the building would alleviate the space constraints of the Downtown location, I noted that the downstairs unit was vacant for sometime before it was leased and was disappointed that Equinox did not expand downwards to that unit. It seems that the outside patio is not used very often, and is a poor use of space. Perhaps a co-ed jaccuzzi could be placed there, or the gym expanded out to the area. It seems that with the weather getting better, some of the Yoga classes could be held there, instead of it just sitting empty all the time. With respect to amenities, I feel that for a luxury club some of the amenities could be upgraded to suit the monthly membership cost. Specifically, the hair gel in the men's locker room was the stuff I used in high school, and avoid using nowadays because of the shine and hardness it leaves. Kiehls makes a Texturizing Clay that is not only better suited for most hairstyles but the same price as the styling gel that's currently in the locker room, or better yet, offer both so that there is an option depending on what look we are going for. On the subject of hair, I feel that the gym should consider upgrading the low-quality hair dryers to Dyson Supersonics, which has built-in technology to avoid overheating hair and only cost one member's monthly membership per unit. If there is a saving grace, it's that the staff and group fitness instructors are very friendly at the Downtown location. Everyone greets you with a smile, but it is a shame that this facility is the black sheep of the Los Angeles Equinox locations. read more

I'm shocked to say from reading the previous reviews that this place sucks. It's all true. Some of the clientele and the majority of staff that work here make it very obvious with their eye contact and their body language that they don't like you. What's the point of coming to a gym with such a negative environment!? The staff here definitely gossip about their clients. That is a major red flag for me. Especially the personal trainers!! They are not even that attractive to be doing that! They are on the uglier side of the spectrum! If you want a good personal trainer go somewhere else. I was working out next to the black female personal trainer and all she does is talk bad about the other guest that are working out than finding actual clients. She must be getting fired soon. This is also not the first time I encountered this altercation but a few more times as I went to this location. The lady has a mouth of a demon and the looks of a rat. Like what the hell! I really don't like this environment and some of the people. Evidently, this is the closest location to me and I have destination pass. Compared to other locations in Los Angeles this facility is lacking space as it looks like a hotel gym. I am canceling my membership. All thanks to the black female personal trainer and her bad work ethic. Update: I found her name through the Equinox App. The demon herself is Brooke Boykin. Amazing gym with amazing views vibes and atmosphere... everyone was so so kind from the workers to your peers working out

I've been a member of Equinox DTLA for a few years now. The location temporarily closed between Mar and May 2020 due to public health guidelines for COVID. I received an email that they planned to open the gym back up in June in a limited capacity. I'm an emergency physician and see on the front lines what is happening with COVID. I was not comfortable going back to the gym at that time due to how quickly COVID cases were still increasing. I contacted Equinox Member Feedback, Member Admin, and Concierge, letting them know I did not want my membership to start again. I thought all was fine, except I happened to look at my credit card bill recently and saw I was charged $265 at the end of June anyway. I haven't heard anything from them, but I have a feeling they'll refuse to cancel unless I physically go in to the gym... even though the whole point of this is to avoid going in to crowded places unnecessarily. read more

I have been to the hawain gardens one and comparing both this one is the best 2 floors. paper towels/ disinfecting sprays installed throughout the gym. Water faucets/ dispensers in every floor very clean theres a sauna for men and one for women which i like cause the hawaiin gardens one has one sauna only and its co ed mixed for men and women lol strange but the parking is convenient too its literally there in the structure 2 floors most times and if u cant find parking theres plently outside the streets on the meters read more

You don't get hot water sometimes in the morning. Imagine after taking a cold shower and coming out with the strongest AC blowing on your naked body in winter. I've reported 3 or 4 times and the issue still hasn't improved. I pay $255 a month for my gym membership and this location hardly meets my expectations. I'm not sure why this location is charging more than the others when it doesn't even open on Sundays. Can we perhaps move the extra budget to get equinox members access to some EV chargers? This is the most incredible fitness center I've ever been to. Living downtown Los Angeles there's a lot of options to choose from. Don't be confused everything outside of equinox pales in comparison. Literally five stars the entire way. The customer service is impeccable. What you get for the monthly fee is very fair! Other places charging $20 or $30 per class or more per month. Upstairs has Olympic weightlifting equipment. So many new and modern machines for all varieties of fitness needs.I love upstairs there are trainers that walk around only to help you. There are so many different types classes to get in optimal shape. In addition there is a spa, boxing, earth bar, an praise lounge area, eucalyptus in fused towels, Internet, call towels, kills brand organic shampoo conditioner lotion and body wash. The locker room is gorgeous with their entire area with blowdryers. The showers are beautiful and brand new and big. Taryn is my equinox concierge and she could not have been more helpful and more kind. I've had a very bad experience with a small Arts District boutique gym and so glad I made the move! This facility is so beautiful with highly qualified trainers. Excellent customer service an unparalleled fitness equipment and a high caliber of customers.
