Food was pretty meh. We needed a bite after a long morning tour of the Sistine Chapel and St Peter's Basilica and before our next activity. This was the closest cafe. The food was ok. Wouldn't recommend if you had time to explore the area for options. read more

I came to this place because it was near where I was staying and I needed to do some communication for work. This place is like a modern coffee shop with many of electrical outlets. I ordered sat down, ordered coffee and food, and got all set up with my laptop. However, I find out later that the coffee shop has not WiFi. Stopped here for lunch after a big morning of sightseeing. Lots of food options in the window & a helpful staff member explained it was 6 euro for a small plate or 8 for a large, filled with whatever you'd like from the window. There were arancini, frittata, potatoes, different salads, meatballs, parmigiana, potato & salmon bake, veggies, cheese & tomatoes etc. we got the large plates but most people were happy with the small. Er Caffettiere was the first Cafè/breakfast place we visited during our stay in Rome. Since this was our first time ordering breakfast, we were quite nervous. But the staff was excellent at understanding us and even discounted one of the members in our group. The cappuccino was AMAZING and the croissants were warm and flaky. Came here due to the reviews. Ordered an espresso (never had it before) and a croissant-like pastry. The pastry was flaky and buttery with a subtle sweetness. They sell sandwiches and a few pastries and sweets. Service was decent. Nice people. They speak a little bit of English. Located directly across the Cavour station. Very small place. Delicious morning pastries! I thought Tartine in SF was my favorite pastry spot but that title was easily usurped by this place. Came here at 6am for cappuccinos but the pastries looked too good to pass up. We purchased 3 cappuccinos and 3 pastries for only 7.5 euros. The little crunchy Nutella-filled ones were my favorite (only 1 euro each) but everything was warm, flaky, and delicious. They need to release a cookbook, I would be first in line. read more

Really loved this place. We stayed right down the street from this cafe and I was lucky to run by Er Caffettiere most mornings before starting the day. For Americans like us, they have takeaway options -- say "da portare via", but they speak good English here too. Best cappuccino I've had was from here (I'm an enthusiast who drinks a lot of coffee but by no means am I an expert). At night (at least on Fridays), they have a great deal on a happy hour that includes a drink and a "buffet" of pastas, salads, leftovers, etc. Super friendly and welcoming. Er no, do not go here unless you like getting ripped off. On a recent trip to Rome I stopped here to get a cappuccino to go and was charged 4 euro. Are you kidding me?! If you are not Italian (I am and my parents are Italian immigrants though I was born in the US), meaning born and raised in Italy, don't go here because this place will discriminate against you for not speaking fluent Italian and look down on you for being a tourist. My family and I absolutely loved this place! It's off the beaten tourist path in a historic tavern district where the slaves used to come after working on the monuments nearby. Wow, what an awesome little coffee shop! This place is right across from the Cavour station. Super convenient to grab a quick espresso before heading off to work or travel. Very good prices here too. A nutella croissant was only 1 euro and it was amazing! So chocolately and flakey, it was heaven in my mouth. Best place to grab breakfast in the morning, I highly recommend stopping by here if you get the chance.
