This place is a complete trap near the Trevi Fountain. They automatically added "service" and "tax" charges to our bill and then demanded a tip on top of that. When we politely refused to leave an additional tip, the staff essentially trapped us at the table, making it uncomfortable and intimidating to leave without paying more. We ate here because it was about 11:15pm and we were really hungry. From the outside, it seemed like it would have been a good place to eat because there were a lot of people seated outside. I didn't want to sit outside because the space was so tight and crammed that I didn't want to feel like I was having a meal with the other guests so we asked to sit inside where it was empty and only 1 couple seated. We ordered the fritto misto carne, cacio e pepe, spaghetti pomodoro, 2 lattes, and a water. The food was decent, but very expensive compared to nicer restaurants we've eaten at so far, which I thought was strange. Once the bill arrived, I was so shocked about the handwritten tip request from our server for an additional 20%, which happened to be more than 20%. I even heard the table next to us complain about their bill also. My husband does not play so he went to the host and complained. There's already a 10% charge added into your total for tax/service so to be charged for an additional +20% was ridiculous. It wasn't even like fine dining in San Francisco. My husband argued the charge and the host said it was for them, which is fine, but in all the restaurants we've eaten at in Rome, we never have a handwritten tip request added to our bill and there were only 2 of us. My husband asked to have the charge adjusted so the host did it for us. I want to be fair with the 2- star rating because we did have good service and the food was decent, but if you can avoid this place, please do. Like everyone else is saying, don't come here. They charge a bogus 20% tip in Cash only AND they round up. Checked with our hotel and they confirmed that is a bogus charge. Especially because it is cash only and doesn't go on your receipt. Tell them you don't have cash and when they say there is an ATM across the way, just leave. Also, the food wasn't great, very bland. Food is over priced for Italy and does not taste authentic. On the menu in the fine print it says service is not included and gives a range from 10% and up. It doesn't not say the service fee needs to be paid in cash so make sure you have some on hand because once they give the bill they request the fee in cash. Also recommend before seating you confirm if there is a festival happening. That will add 10% to your service fee. I asked why they charged 20% for service fee and they said there's a festival. I asked which festival and the waitstaff couldn't answer. It was a Wednesday with nothing except regular tourists around no festival in the area. The pizza was soggy and the sauce was sweet tasting. It was nothing like the pizza we had eaten at several other spots. The meatballs did not taste fresh nor handmade. Nor was the pasta homemade. The waitstaff were attentive at first. After the meal I asked the waiter for the bill. We waited for 20 minutes even after asking the main guy again. He then yelled at the waiter in front of us for misplacing the bill. I had not read previous reviews and was shocked at the cash only tip that was added. I did not have cash with me. I know they deal with fee complaints all day - but these greedy vultures could care less, because they'll make out on the few 'trusting' people that will not notice it or those that are naive enough to think it's a standard. They tried to tip shame me on 'that's all the waitstaff get' - which is a lie. In Italy, waitstaff are paid proper wages (not tip wages like in America) along with retirement and health benefits, so if their staff is only making wages on tips, they are working illegally. They begrudgingly took off the 20%. One should never be hassled with something like this during any dining experience - these rapacious, dishonest owners should be ashamed of themselves. This is definitely a TOURIST TRAP with the intent of ripping you off. There are so many great places to eat in Rome, it's a shame that piss stains like this exist, but when they do, they are almost always located near a tourist landmark. Typical Roman cafe steps from the Trevi fountain. Food was fine, drinks stiff, beer large. Rather expensive. Service slow and inattentive. A 20percent service charge is added on to each bill (four parties from our group ate there), and could not be reduced after strongly requesting. The service charge had to be paid in cash but the food/drinks could be paid with credit card, they just won't give you back your credit card until they have the cash in their pocket. Hands down my favorite gelato!!!! This is saying a lot, because I ate gelato every single day (often several times a day) while I was in Europe. This place was absolutely amazing and actually quite cheap, too! My favorite flavor was Nico, a combination of hazelnut and nutella flavored gelato. I had my first cone here the night I arrived in Rome. We were taking a night tour of all the sights and ended at the Trevi Fountain. On our last day, my boyfriend and I trekked allllll the way back (was not easy; we were far away) just to get some more gelato from this place. They no longer had Nico, so I think I just got regular hazelnut. Still absolutely amazing. We sat on the steps right in front of the fountain to enjoy our cones. :) read more

This place is literally right next to Fontana di Trevi, if you are facing the Trevi. It will be on your right side. It is a relatively tiny bar, but they offer an assortment of goodies from gelato to panino to pastries. I personally have only tried their pistacchio cannolo, which was great (~€2.50). They have restrooms inside as well. The workers are really nice and friendly too. However, there are no seats inside but who needs indoor seating when you can find a spot to sit at the fountain and just people watch. I will definitely be back to try their other goodies. read more
