Her work is timeless, elegant, and classic--exactly the style we envisioned for our wedding photos. One thing that stood out to us immediately was Sam's gift for capturing the small, in-between moments. You can tell she is genuinely passionate about photography, storytelling, and the people she works with. From our very first inquiry, she was so excited about our day. Her communication was exceptional. Leading up to the wedding, she was always open to discussing logistics, timelines, shot lists, and locations. She gave amazing insight on the schedule and photo planning, and we fully trusted her expertise. When planning our engagement session--which we had to reschedule due to rain and our crazy schedules--she worked so hard to accommodate us. Even when it started sprinkling during the shoot, she improvised and created beautiful moments on the spot. As we planned our wedding day timeline, Sam offered suggestions that truly made our day flow better and helped us get the best photos possible. She made us feel like our wedding was a priority and always made time for us. Any question we had--big or small--she answered promptly and kindly. On our wedding day, Sam was the calm but strong presence we didn't know we needed. She confidently led the day, kept us on track, and knew exactly where to go and what to do. We never felt stressed or unsure--Sam had everything under control. Our families and bridal party were amazed by how professional, organized, and friendly she and her team were. Traveling around the city with a large bridal party can get chaotic, but Sam handled it with complete ease. Our wedding photos are an absolute dream--better than anything we ever imagined! They capture the emotion, joy, beauty, and details of our day so perfectly that we feel transported right back into those moments every time we look at them. I have spent hours scrolling through them again and again because I simply can't stop! We've had so many guests tell us our photos look like they belong in a magazine. We were interested in taking late-night photos at the bar in our venue (since we were indoors and the city blocked golden hour), and Sam was instantly excited and on board. She always listened to our ideas and visions and did everything she could to make them happen. We received a sneak peek the very next day--which made us swoon--and our full gallery in less than two months, far sooner than expected. Throughout editing, Sam checked in with updates, which we appreciated so much. From meeting Sam to saying goodnight at the end of our reception, working with her was an incredible experience from start to finish. We would pay double!!…read more Though excited I didn't know what to expect the night we went to watch the preliminary 'clip' (or trailer) of our wedding video from Departing Line Studios. I knew they were awesome and a lot of fun while capturing our wedding day, but I've seen wedding videos in the past that were all very predictable and seemingly all the same. BUT after watching just the trailer alone - I stand corrected. Jeremy should be showing Kubrick and Scorcese how it's done! Our video trailer was truly EXCITING to watch and not just because it's OURS but because it is a piece of cinematic ART! I mean my hubby and I were there and obviously played a large role in the whole event but we were left guessing what was next, sitting on the edges of our seats completely enthralled in the video footage that played out in front of us wanting more! That being said... Once we were able to watch the entire video... WOW! Hands down it was theee thing that we were most excited about after the big day. It is something we still agree was the best decision we made when planning the wedding. Wedding pictures are amazing to have around for memories (believe me we had a phenomenal photographer and our pix are beautiful) but even our favorite photos pale in comparison to the wedding video. The video and trailer have several times allowed us to RE-live the moments from that special day. It's truly magical. When we watch the video (which we and our loved ones have done several times now) we find ourselves laughing, giggling, crying, kissing, laughing more, etc. Words cannot even describe the appreciation we have for Departing Line Studios with what they put together for us. We are forever grateful to them for capturing our story like they did and then to put everything together the way that they did afterwards to make it retell not just any story but OUR STORY. I know that many couples like us may be hesitant when booking videographers (and other large ticket services) as we all realize early on, prices add up quickly over the entire spectrum of planning an event. I understand, they do but please trust me when I say that if you decide to go with Departing Line Studios for videography there will be no regrets what so ever. In fact after witnessing their work... My husband and I would have gladly paid double. We have NOT ONCE regretted booking Departing Line Studios for our videography nor will we ever. All the remaining décor is in boxes in the basement, the dress ended up in a garbage bag when leaving the hotel the following morning (don't judge ladies yours might too... lol), the cake and leftovers went home with friends and loved ones but all in all after the BIG DAY we weren't left holding on to much other than each other. Now... With the video we can go back and appreciate the dinner, cake and the cutting of the cake. When I want to watch our guests mingling around the room with the decorations placed ever so carefully I can. When I want to look at my dress and watch how it flowed around the room/dance floor all night I can. When we want to relive the "I Dos" we can. When I want to watch the look on my hubby's face when my father walked me down the aisle to him - I can... over and over and over. I'm sure you get it. The video of our wedding day is amazing and is something that we will treasure forever and ever. After weeks of hearing zero responses from her, I messaged her again asking for a refund. She never responded, BUT she did block me. I spent $140 on 4 gift certificates as my kids big Christmas gift. My family and I were very much looking forward to a great experience, but she stole that from us. She also literally stole Christmas from my kids AND many other kids. I have contacted the BBB, the michigan attorney, and the news. I hope this woman is prosecuted for stealing, and I hope no other families have her do this to them. She and her family should be ashamed of themselves.

They are timeless and capture the essence of each couple perfectly. What really drew us to Melissa though, was her unique ability to capture the candid moments. Looking through our gallery, there were of course the fantastic formal photos and more guided shots, but my absolute favorites were all of the other shots, the in the moment shots. She does a great job of capturing people in their best light, even when they're not posing. Based on how flawless our engagement shoot with her went and how stressed I (the bride) was on the day of our wedding, we were a little nervous about the pictures. The engagement shoot was so smooth and we vibed together so well. The wedding day was very overwhelming and we both were worried that it would show on our faces. But every time Melissa was around (which was often thank goodness!), we were both immediately more calm. We had to pause looking through the gallery because they were too good and we were crying too much. We cannot recommend Melissa more! She is top of the line, folks!!!!! For what it's worth, we are both 29, got married in East Lansing / Grand Ledge Michigan, and bought "The Ultimate Package" (which was super worth it!!)
