The caption in the sidewalk reads, "Donald Baechler. Walking Figure. (2003-2004). Bronze. Edition 1 of 3. On Loan From Gateway Foundation." Online, "Walking Figure poses motionless in front of the Gateway Foundation building, stuck forever in walking stance but never gaining any ground. The sprightly form reminds the viewer of a child's drawing of a human, with the arms and legs sticking out awkwardly from a square-like torso. The childish face of the figure grins shyly but contentedly with closed eyes as it towers above the heads of passersby, striding purposefully toward some unknown end. The surface texture of the bronze is strongly textured, inviting the viewer to interact and touch the rough surface of the piece." [Review 14462 overall, 1788 of 2020, number 94 in Missouri.]

We parked in the attached parking lot, which was card only and very convenient. I bought a locker and knee pads, which made the time here much better. I highly recommend these add ons. This place is more like a giant jungle gym than a museum. City Museum has climbing opportunities for adults, and I felt like a kid again. It gave me a sense of wonder and exploration. I recommend going outside in the morning while it's not too hot. A lot of the outside is metal and rebar. This area was very nice because I didn't feel claustrophobic outside. I know we must have missed a lot because each nook and cranny had more to explore. I'm sure there's some places I missed because I couldn't fit and some I just didn't see. I found out after we left that one area allows you to go under the floor. This museum is not a place where you should wear shorts or a dress. I recommend long pants. I tore my jeans on a rivet, and it would have cut me up in other clothing. We had 1 adult with us who was handicapped, and she wasn't able to stick with us at all. There are elevators but it is not disability friendly. Overall 10/10 would return.

I believe tickets were around $20 each, and my wife eventually sprung for a $20 headlamp for our kid to explore the caves. And I will say, as a 40+ person with a preschoole, I did feel at one point my last breath would be had in those caves. There are just so many places in there for little ones to crawl and explore, but they also have some big drops in other areas that I had to help out with. It's fairly dark in there and I had to contort myself in ways I hadn't done in years, so be wary! The rest of the building feels similar, but with more light. It felt really cool noticing all the little slides and hideaways tucked everywhere, and really made me think about how often kids may get stuck in places? We walked past the aquarium and made our way to the carousel, where there was also more playground type areas. There was also this odd area that looked like a skate park, but without skateboards. So of course all us adults attempted to run up one of the ramps that felt like the warped wall from Ninja Warrior. I think my hip is still feeling that one. We did not end up eating here, nor do any of the outside stuff. Regardless, this place really is a wonder and will both excite and drain the battery of people of all ages. Lots of fun to be had here - just be sure to stretch ahead of time parents!

This is the smallest national park, and you will need to park in a parking garage, private lot, or use street parking. But it is just a short walk of a few blocks to get to the Arch. It is recommended to purchase tickets online because they often sell out. But today, a Monday morning, I just walked in a purchased a ticket for the next tram to the top. If you are claustrophobic you might not be able to ride the tram to the top. The cars are very, very small. There are five seats in each. But if you handle the tight space it is totally worth it to ride to the top. Once at the top you are allowed to stay for ten minutes, then you board the tram for the return trip down. The gift shop is worth a look, my favorite is the large collection of exploration history books. Many books about Lewis & Clark, of course, also other many other books about exploration and early history of St. Louis and the West. Books on pioneering women too, and Sacagawea. The tram ride was a bargain at only $17. While I didn't have time to view the movie today I have seen it before, on my last trip, and it is definitely interesting.

The artwork shows Geppetto, the well-known carpenter from the Pinocchio story, holding a hammer above the puppet's head. At first, it might look playful or cartoon-like, but the scene feels more complicated the longer you look. Is Geppetto angry, or is he about to bring Pinocchio to life? The puppet gazes up at him with a mix of trust and worry, adding to the tension. Otterness often uses simple, familiar characters to explore deeper ideas, and this piece is no different. It makes you think about the bond between a maker and what they create - who holds the power, who gets to decide, and how care and control can overlap. It also reflects the original Pinocchio story, with its themes of honesty, identity, and the desire to become real. Completed in 2001 and placed in Citygarden by the Gateway Foundation, the sculpture stands about eight and a half feet tall. So, I wouldn't recommend visiting at night, as you never know what you may encounter. The Grafitti wall was much more longer than I thought it would be! The vibrant colors from various artists that join together to create a complete picture was truly astounding. It's actually so inspiring to see so many different artists working together, incorporating their own unique styles to create one single piece of artwork. If I took a few minutes to really take in and admire each grafitti, finishing the wall would take HOURS! I was skeptical that this mural was worth the trip to an abandoned area, but I'm truly so glad that I came to see this beauty. If you're in Saint Louis, you have to come take a look!

I've seen several mural walls throughout the US and this is by far the most extensive one I've come across. Aside from the surprising length of this mural walls the quality and the meaning behind these works of art stood out to me the most.
