The paths are well maintained and easy to follow. We only saw 2 other people when we were there- it was peaceful and quiet and we enjoyed it.

Going back to the car afterwards is a bit more challenging though because elevation. At the end, you can climb down to get closer, but it's a bit too technical for the kids. The drive there is interesting with lots of windy roads. Make sure you route your trip on GPS there and back while you have signal. I lost all signal up there.

You'll see little chipmunks, a banana slug or two, streams, ferns, and beautiful unspoiled nature that Oregon is known for. The suspension bridge is cool to walk on, and not too scary (unless someone is rocking it!) and the waterfall is breathtaking. It's not super crowded but you'll encounter people along the way and back. On the weekends parking is a bit harder to come by at the lot, but I waited for a bit and got a spot. You can pay en route to the trailhead at a spot with a QR code ($5 for the day pass) where there's some reception. There's also one at the trailhead but not sure of reception there.

Some parts of the trail cross streams. Birdsong fills air, and you can see occasional robins hopping on the trail, trying to find a snack. Tiny songbirds flit through the air. There are some inclines and slopes on this trail, but nothing too bad. Take it in at your own pace. Everyone on this trail had great trail etiquette and preserved the quiet nature of the atmosphere. Parking can be difficult to find at times, as this trail is so popular due to its proximity to downtown, as well as being a beautiful experience! I highly recommend experiencing this trail if you have the time.

It's fairly easy-to-moderate, with the true uphill slog coming right before the mansion, but along the way you'll cross a couple of bridges, be awed by a stand of redwoods and march though a lush forest. The new Barbara Walker bridge is pretty cool to walk over as it curves across Burnside. All told, it's about a 3 mile round trip, mostly shaded and fairly hilly in parts, but not too intimidating IMO. The city view at the mansion is the icing on the cake.

One thing they don't really tell you is that some of the sights are cash-only, so we definitely lucked out by having cash on us. The trail definitely kicked our butts , but it was super, super beautiful and completely worth it. Lots of out of state folks here doing this hike- I'm sure it would be quite packed on a weekend. The trail itself was a bit overgrown and narrow in parts. Beware of game trails, I missed a turn and found myself a ways down a game trail before turning around. The view at the top is amazing, definitely don't just view from the lower trail. If you're able- climb up the rock face to see the view from the peak. It's so worth it!

You definitely need a capable car because some uphill parts are rough and slippery (almost lost traction). The hike down is a bit steep and slippery but there are ropes to help. Tip: Bring gloves! After reaching the bottom, just follow the stream to the beautiful waterfall. We had a picnic there and it was so chill. There are no trash cans here,please take your trash with you. I felt like being at a childhood summer camp with the hiking and climbing. The water was too cold to swim this time, but I'll definitely be back during the summer!
