We arrived early and there was only one other car in the parking lot. The beginning of the hike we did was like hiking on a mowed path in a field, but then we got into the woods and it was great! The paths are well maintained and easy to follow. We only saw 2 other people when we were there- it was peaceful and quiet and we enjoyed it.

This park has a great vibe and really expresses the culture and history of the area. Just a short…read morewalk across the creek bridge from historic Silverton's main street shops and restaurants. You can hear the babble of the small brook as your kids play in the park. The children have so much fun at this local Silverton Park they don't even notice when it starts to sprinkle on their heads nor do they care. As you can see from the photos the local residents take great pride in this park I do recommend spending a morning or afternoon.

There are two main places to pull off the road - a huge flat spot near the pond, and a parking lot towards the eastern end of the property. It's an easy walk up the hill to a viewpoint where you can look down at the birds. Trails are well maintained, and walking is a pleasure here. Our last visit was during a government shutdown, and we were happy to see that the restrooms near the parking lot were both open and being maintained. Thank you to the people who take care of this wonderful place.

You can continue on the footpath from there. It's quite wet, and waterproof boots are necessary unless you like damp socks. The views are beautiful! We went slow, took lots of pictures, watched a juvenile hawk hunt, and sat to watch for butterflies on the Kincaid's lupine. We saw the Fender's blue butterfly, both a male and female! He came across Kathy's Airbnb in Silverton and we fell in love. Location was great and we definitely feel the Oregon hospitality from the locals. For our 3 day stay in Silverton, we walked around their downtown and checked out some of the murals that the locals tell us about. There must be at least one in every block! Besides that, we also ventured out to nearby places: SILVER FALLS: The Silver Falls Park is a 7-8 mile hike to see 10 waterfalls! The hike was doable but definitely got us sweating at some point. The falls were beautiful to see and it was a peaceful and enjoyable hike. We went around 11:30am and there was an ok amount of people. Not too crowded but with the right amount of folks to chat with and hike alongside. They have a gift shop and a cafe with semi-clean bathrooms. WOODBURN PREMIUM OUTLET: on our second day, the bf and I checked out Woodburn Premium Outlets and it was great! Plenty of nice shops to look at such as Michael Kors, Nike, Adidas, North Face, Coach, Forever 21, J. Crew, etc. so many good sales ranging from 50% storewide to some with an additional 20-40%!! And omg, can't forget the TAX FREEE! I'm definitely loving this tax free in Oregon !! SALEM: the bf and I wanted to check out places not too far from our Airbnb and Salem was another nice little town nearby (~20mins away) and there was a nice little surprise when we arrived! On the day we visited, it was the 5th day of the summer solstice so it was "Make A Music" day. On this day, worldwide, bands play music on the streets for people to enjoy, We really liked walking around and listening to open mics all around town. There was a band playing in like every other block. Never experienced this before so it was fun to see people singing and dancing along the music. Silverton is a great area to stay cause it's quiet and peaceful and easily accessible to other places. Although not much to do in the town itself, they aren't far from other places.

They have done a good job keeping history alive around town and preserving it for others to enjoy. Not too far from silver falls state park. One of my favorite parks to visit in the whole world. This park is really hard to find- I only found it on the Chehalem Park & Recreation's website,…read morethough it does have a Google Maps location. Even on Alltrails, the trail does not show up on GIS- so I don't know if the trail is fairly new, or if this park is just super obscure. Anyway, it was a pleasant surprise since I was looking for a relatively short hike with some elevation gain. I recorded about 130 feet of gain in under a mile- not a ton, but a minor workout and a potential good spot to go back up and down for training. There is a playground, basketball court and the aforementioned trail. What I will say is that the views from the top of the hill are amazing- the trail is really well maintained and you can see out onto the valley for miles. Unfortunately, there aren't any facilities such as restrooms, but there is a nice water fountain. If you live in the area, this is a good place to take kids to play on the playground or shoot some hoops. The trail is fine too, though I likely won't come back for it since it's short and not terribly impressive.

This is a nice little park located north-west of Salem. It is easy to miss off of the highway and…read morethat is one of its best qualities in my mind. I drove by this little park several times and had no clue it was ever there. The actual name of the park is a Willamette Greenway. The park itself has a small parking lot. The trail starts from the parking lot and is gravel for some time. Eventually, it turns into a standard dirt trial. The trail makes a nice little loop that splits off after about 200 yards from the start. If you take a left you will go straight to the river and see a nice little bench that overlooks the river. The forest that this trail travels through is a mix of some broadleaf trees and some tall fir trees. It is an absolute beauty of a trial. The trail is very short, so if your looking for a long hike, be prepared to do some laps. If you have a dog, there does not appear to be any rules posted regarding leashes, but it's not a bad idea to bring one just in case. If you are north of Salem and looking for a nice little hike this is a great option, however not a very long trek!
