The oldest bakery in Salzburg and it did not disappoint. It is located within St. Peter's monastery…read morein the basement next to a waterwheel which is still used to power their milling machine. The aroma of the bakeries are so strong and heavenly, you can find it just by the smell of it. They are known for their sourdough but I was told to try their brioche which was what I got. The bread was soft, pillowy, with a slight sweetness to it that's perfectly balanced with the natural flavors of wheat flour and milk. A small batch just came out when we arrived so it was warm as we devoured it.
I was told there's usually a long line but maybe it was during the heat wave when we went so there were only a few people ahead of us.
One interesting thing is there's a stone in front of the store which has 2 shapes of their signature breads. They actually use that to guarantee the size of the bread.
Overall, although they only offer limited items, but they've perfected what they do offer. You can tell they use high quality ingredients. This is a must try when in the city.
