Peaceful Waters has been the biggest blessing of a business I have found all year…read more What I love about Peaceful Waters is that although they are founded on Christian principles, you do not need to practice a specific religion (or any at all) to participate in their services. They cater to the individual client, allowing for as much or as little (aka none) biblical foundation as desired. They many kinds of holistic wellness services such as yoga, massage, essential oils, etc. on top of psychotherapy/counseling. When I was younger, I used to go to counseling in Virginia. I found that despite the claim of being Christian-based, there was hardly any focus on that aspect of counseling whatsoever. Here, I go for counseling services weekly. My sessions have been completely faith-based, which was my #1 requirement in looking for a therapist. I'm able to openly share anything I would want without fear of judgment, & with confidence that my counselor's response will be empathetic, understanding, & biblically sound. Having an educated & mature believer to guide me through counseling is priceless. She utilizes cognitive behavioral therapy alongside the spiritual practices which were so important to me, making for a beautiful combination of methods to help me work through things. Their mission to love and serve everyone regardless of any personal beliefs is so evident. I truly feel at peace as soon as I walk in, even from my first interaction with the receptionist. Peaceful Waters provides what I looked throughout Virginia practices for yet did not find, at an affordable rate. I highly recommend calling or stopping in to find out if you could benefit from any of their services.

I asked for the owner to call me back because I was so sick with throwing up that there was no way I could of sat through a session unless I kept a bucket in front of me. The woman I spoke to just kept repeating to me that it was the policy from the owner, and that there is no talking around it because it's set in stone. Well, after asking for the call from the owner, she never bothered to get around to calling me. If this is how they run their business, I don't understand how they are even in business.

Hot yoga was an incredible experience!!! I've done yoga a couple of times in the past but never…read morethought I would experience hot yoga so when my friend asked if I wanted to attend a session, I was all for it. Chesapeake Hot Yoga is located right off of Kempsville Rd. and since they are located in a plaza, there's plenty of parking which was nice. Our session started at 6:15pm so we all arrived a few minutes prior in order to check in and get set up for our 75 minute session. Once we put our belongings away, we entered the yoga room and it was pretty warm but bearable. The room was large and spacious so we were all able to spread out and have plenty of room to exercise. We brought our own yoga mats but towels were provided and I'm so glad they were. The more movements we made, the more I sweat. I was drenched from head to toe once it was over and my yoga mat was soaked by the end of the session lol. Thankfully, we were given a cold towel that was lavender scented to place on our heads to cool us down and it felt great. Overall, as intense as the warm temperatures were in the room, I would return in a heartbeat. Our instructor, Kali, was absolutely awesome. She was very patient and allowed us to go at our own pace. I love doing yoga and I highly recommend everyone give hot yoga a try, at least once.

At some other studios, I've noticed that the teachers kind of rush through the classes, but the instructors here take their time, walking around the class and helping students get into alignment safely. Meaghan and Gil, the owners, are the most lovely people! They make sure to remember your name and keep up with you. They are easily some of the best instructors I've ever practiced under. As for the studio itself, it has 2 rooms in which to practice. The parking lot is a bit small, but it's to be expected due to the urban setting. They do have lots where overflow parking can go though. The only thing that makes me sad is that they don't offer that many classes, but they will be adding some soon due to the recent graduating instructors. I'm so excited!!!

Go, have fun, and give yourself some time to breathe! ;) I also had the opportunity to complete Breathe's 200 hr yoga teacher training (YTT) program with Meaghan and Gil. If you've thought about completing a YTT program--whether to teach or to deepen your own practice--I highly recommend you check it out, talk to Meaghan and Gil, and see if it's a fit. The program prepares students to not only be knowledgeable, confident yoga instructors, but to be knowledgeable, confident human beings. Students are taught the fundamentals of teaching a yoga class, yes, but are also lead on a journey toward inner peace and clarity. This clarity allows students to more fully delve into their own yoga practice and to find the joy in their practice, both on the mat and in their daily life. It is through this grounding, clearer sense of self that students are then able to share the potential of yoga by guiding other students on their own journeys.
