Eskaton did a wonderful job with an informational presentation and a self-guided tour of the property last Saturday. It is evident, in everyone you meet there, that they are friendly and compassionate across the board. Our mom has been residing at Eskaton for the last 3 1/2 years. I have found them to be compassionate, efficient, caring, and wanting the best for my loved one. Great in- patient rehab facility. My wife had bilateral knee replacement. The entire staff of nurses, Cna's, physical therapists, occupational therapists, housekeepers, cooks, managers were top notch. She would not be where she is if not for everyone involved. Eskaton Village Carmichael is by far the best in-patient rehab facility I've experienced, for many reasons. The facility itself is beautiful, clean, spacious, warm and inviting. The shared rooms are very large, spacious and fully furnished, with a comfortable bed. I enjoyed the company of roommates, without feeling cramped and crowded, or feeling like I had to sacrifice my privacy. The food was great, and well presented! I enjoyed eating in the dining room with my elderly roommate and we both really enjoyed the food. And there is plenty of it! I'm a vegetarian and was happy to see they offered a good selection of tasty vegetarian options. I really can't say enough about the PT and OT team. I am so incredibly grateful for their expertise, support and encouragement! I could not have done it without them! The medical and nursing staff were superior. They were all so very patient and kind, and I felt like they always took all the time I needed, even though I know they are very busy people! I guess in a nutshell I could say that my stay at Eskaton felt very safe, comfortable and inviting. Very much like visiting well-loved family. I am happy to be back home, but grateful for Eskaton Village Carmichael being there in my time of need. read more

My wife was transferred here from Kaiser Roseville. Everyone was super positive about the placement. Transportation was late and we arrived at the facility at 10 pm. Kaiser told us she would be placed in a two person room. She is in a three person room with no window, very little light, and at the end of a dingy hall. No nurses were on duty because of a shift change. No bed rails on the bed to assist with safety. My wife needs the rails to roll over for wound care and changing. No ability to get medication because no nurses are available. The bed is essentially a rubberized mat on a metal frame (similar to a pull out couch mattress) which is not conducive to her back needs. Room mates are watching TV with lights on and there is a constant beeping noise coming from the hallway. This place is a joke. Do not believe the hype or the videos on their website. Those cater to the senior living community and not the rehab skilled nursing facility. Shame on Kaiser for lying directly to me and my wife, shame on Kaiser for pushing her out of the hospital to a sub standard placement and shame on this place for utterly misrepresenting what they are to the public. read more

This place is beautiful, and the people who live here are very involved with the many activities. There is a well-equipped fitness center with a pool and daily classes, a library, and an auditorium for concerts and other events.There's even a duck pond with ducklings every spring. The residents have created their own television channel and monthly newspaper. The lovely dining room has full service, and there's a cafe for lighter meals. The apartments and cottages are very attractive, and some are quite spacious. There are separate buildings for assisted living, skilled nursing, and memory care. There are too many amenities to list. We toured here as one of several potential assisted living/memory care communities for our parent. The rooms in the memory care unit do not have showers requiring that the people living in memory care be taken to a communal shower room. The reviews and Community Care Licensing history also gave us pause. It's an attractive facility, but it's dated and it shows. During the tour we also noticed that while staff was present, there were no activities going on and no one was interacting with the people living in the memory care area. read more

I am so very disappointed with the care and treatment at this facility. No facility is perfect, but they could do a much better job with the resources they have. The grandeur is the allure, but they fall short in most other areas. The in-house doctor is ancient himself. They are just too big to care enough The "It's not my job" mentality is evident. Really excited at first about this place. My mom moved into their assisted living area on the belief that she would have access to the nursing care, when the time came. No one told her or her family that without paying into a membership and buying an apartment, she would not qualify for assisted living services. She and we were also very clear about one of her conditions, which is an essential or familial tremor, which when she is stressed or sick can look like she's having a seizure, but she is not. Not a problem we were told, until she had her second episode and we were then told they do not have the expertise and resources to accommodate her particular problem. We told you about it and what it looks like and you told us, no problem! Then when we asked about skilled nursing, we were informed that because she's not a "member" they cannot accept her in the nursing unit. So it went from "no problem"to "you have no place to stay here and she needs to be placed somewhere else within 5 days!!" At one point we were told she was welcome back to assisted living but then within an hour that was a "miscommunication." Watching your elderly mom lose her functioning while the medical experts pass her off to each other is so painful for the family and was humiliating for her. I always thought of this Eskaton facility as the example of how our aging population should be treated, but never again. If you love your older family member, RUN! They don't care about the person, it's all about the $ with the least amount of care and expense to them. read more

My aunt was here. I'll start with the worst...bed sores...2 1/2 inches deep. They blame Kaiser. Kaiser blames them. Both are culpable in my book!! When she was transferred to hospital, they bagged up all her things. We were away dealing with another family medical issue and unable to pick them up for about 4 days. When we got there, they brought us her bags. I looked through to make sure her phone was there, and immediately could smell it. One bag was plastic and tied up. It smelled like a dirty diaper. They had picked up urine soaked clothing and tied it up in that bag and left it for us to find 4 days later. Wash it? Throw it away? Disgusted! And if we hadn't known she had some jewelry in the safe, it would still be there. Asked, and they said they didn't think she had anything, but when they decided to look, found it. Not impressed AT ALL. read more

We have been residents of EVC (independent living) for eight years. It's not perfect, but it's very, very good. Staff knock themselves out to see that our needs are met. Residents quickly become your circle of caring friends. The property is well maintained. We were carefully protected during Covid, and, more recently, the staff went to extraordinary lengths to see to our safety during an extended time with no electricity due to an accident elsewhere. My mom just completed her third stay at Eskaton The Village, and I was once again impressed with the care she received and am happy to award them a 5-star rating. This time was even more difficult because of COVID and the statewide restrictions in place, which prevented family from visiting their loved ones, but for good reasons and safety of the patients and staff. For this reason and more, I couldn't have imagined sending her anywhere but Eskaton The Village. The nurses, CNAs, staff, therapists (OT, PT, Speech), doctors, and Zina were absolutely spectacular and very attentive to my mom's care and my many phone calls. I truly appreciate how this facility sets itself apart from the vast majority - they care about their patients. It's clean, the food is good, and the care is top notch. Please please do not let your loved ones move to Eskaton!! They are sugar and spice to get you to buy and move in....... the sale and move out left to the heirs is more trying than the passing of your loved one. The "sales team" is completely biased towards the buyer and I am sure they are pulled from the ranks of used car salespeople. it has been an ongoing fight to receive payment, we are now over a month since closing and still no payment. They took possession mid-way through the month that we had to pay full rent for. They will not communicate. This has made a very painful situation way worse. Find a different place for your retirement years. If I could have given it negative ten stars I would have. read more

My wife has been a resident of Eskaton Memory Care Unit for nearly two years. The entire Caregiving staff has always shown her love and compassion. Each of the dementia residents receives individualized care, based on personality and special needs history. The Caregivers are well-trained and always present and a happy, friendly posture, however the difficult the situation. Residents have the option of art class, music presentations, games, and regular exercise routines. In short, residents are treated like family, in a very positive environment. "RUN FORREST RUN!" My mom was recent patient there and her quality of treatment and rehabilitation was appalling, substandard, and carelessness. There were only a few staff that actually DID THEIR JOBS! The Administrator had absolutely no empathy, concern, or corrective measures to improve the quality of care for my mom when I met with him. Pictures/Videos speak for themselves. Don't put your Love ones in these facility and leave them at the UN-Mercy of the faculty. Yeah, race does play a "major" role too! They deserve better! If I HAD to recommend a rehab under the Eskaton name it would be Eskaton Manzanita. When my mom had a Stroke a few years ago, they treated my mom with EXCEPTION CARE, & RESPECT. This was my first meeting regarding assisted living for my parents. I have driven by Eskaton in Carmichael many times and found it to be beautiful and well maintained. I met with Shanti Wills and she was very personable and professional. She asked me questions to help her understand my parent's needs and also allowed plenty of time for my questions as well. I never felt rushed or pressured. She took me on a tour of the facilities geared towards my parent's needs. Every private and communal room was exceptionally clean and, most important, was homey and welcoming. Although I have decided to look into in-home care now, I would not hesitate to place my parents here when the time comes. The facilities were immaculate and the staff I interacted with were very kind and caring. Shanti was outstanding and her care and concern to help was evident and genuine. Even though I declined the need for Eskaton at this time, she provided me with some additional resources for when the time comes. The rehabilitation care facility is the absolute worst. My mother in law spent 21 days here. There is not enough help for all the patients. The staff is overwhelmed with way too much work, resulting in: patients waiting 30-45 minutes to get help with bathroom needs, nurses not taking care of patients with respect and care. However Rose and Aire are great. The rest of the staff could careless. The Doctors they have on staff, are usually sitting at a desk reading RN's notes ... rarely seen by patience. Our experience with the so called Doctor was pure elder abuse and verbal abuse when she finally did see the patient. A sheriff came out and took the report and said he'd been here for other issues. Then Ryan Nakaou ( executive) questioned our mother in law about who's she's talking to about the situation, as if SHES the one in trouble. The other serious issue here is my mother in law was tested for dementia by a so called speech therapist. She also represented herself as a nutritionist, registered dietitian. Why is it that one person not qualified for any of these jobs is making the prognosis? How grossly unethical can Eskaton be? Between their abusive Doctors on staff and so called executives, the state of California should shut this place down. Anyone considering this place should read the reviews and RUN.... read more

My husband was in Eskaton for 2 weeks. He received excellent care. The entire staff was so caring and they ensured all if his needs were met. They answered his call button very quickly and treated him with care, they always had a friendly smile and treated him as a person not just a job. It was obvious the staff was happy working there because they always had a smile on their face and a friendly hello from the reception area when you first arrived to the people cleaning his room making sure he had a safe environment. His PT and OT were so patient with Stan and made sure he was safe and getting stronger. The RN and the CNA were there for him to take care of all of his needs Quickly helping him with his daily needs and his medications. His meals were good and always served nice and hot. Head nurses would come in just to say hello and to make sure everything was okay. This has been Stan's 4th SNF that he has stayed in and it is by far the BEST. My mom feel and had multiple fractures in her femur and after discharge from the hospital fell again. It was clear she needed some time in a facility to learn how to be careful and avoid weight-bearing on her injured leg. Eskaton Village Carmichael was the second SNF she lived in. The first one was dirty, delayed with care, and generally likely to result in bad outcomes. Eskaton was the exact opposite: clean, caring staff (OT/PT were amazing), responsive, and best of all, we saw my mom improve significantly over her stay. Every interaction we had with all levels of the facility were very professional and, most importantly, safe. If you are looking from a Skilled Nursing Facility, we recommend them highly. read more

My mom arrived after Hip replacement surgery. First, in the hospital she used bed rails to pull herself up. There are none or any support ways for a patient to pull themseves up. 2nd, The room is not welcoming- its like a hospital room in a prison. No pictures or anything. Small 7x9 (on my mom's side-separated by a curtain.). No chair for guests, and the tv is on the only shelf located to the side of the bed. So patients get a nice stiff neck if they opt to watch tv. 3rd Although in the hospital she used a walker to get to the comode; Here they're having her use a bed pan. My mom is 69 and not happy about this. And hospital had her using walker, to "wrk" her legs and prevemt blood clots. 4th they are providing minimal PT. Basically my mom is laying in bed NOT building her strength or rehabilitating her hip. She says the food is actually good & staff are really nice and fast to respond to "button calls". Honestly, she would get better in-home physical therapy & better accomodations at home. Bring your own home decor & physical therapists. read more

I have been trying to get hold of someone in the marketing and sales of the organization for a week and left multiple messages but no one ever have the courtesy to return the phone call. I recently had foot surgery and I was admitted to Eskaton Village in Carmichael for physical therapy. The facility is spotless and the Staff is extremely kind and caring. It is a quite place to heal. The food is very good and the kitchen staff is wonderful. They ask what your food preferences are and are willing to accommodate any diets. I required physical therapy and the Staff was very informative and caring. There are activities, a house dog and music. I would highly recommend Eskaton Village read more

My home for 17 years...holidays and visits to my parents! So this has been my 'home' flying back and forth over these years from the East Coast. Got to give kudos starting from the top: Greg Klick, CEO, has been exemplary with his attention on all fronts. After Dad passed, Mom decided to move from 2 bdrms to 1 bdrm. At 98, no less. Effortlessly, the staff (Greg, Linda, Lucy,Sandy, Kim) were all there to facilitate. She LOVES her new abode. Friends, activities, Gae and Jon....(from Day 1), Peace of mind when your mother is on 'other coast' to know I NEVER have to worry. FOOD: Glen Blackwell,Anita Singh with professional wait staff and Kevin Casey, Chef - who not only prepare amazing food, it is served with a wonderful staff of young people! The Cafe - perfect alternative to formal dining. Our family has absolutely loved 'coming home', seeing all the good faces, noting that it is truly a country club residence from front gate inwards. I've always heard how difficult it is to get a loved one placed in this facility for rehab. They had a bed available and I hurried over to do a tour. I was so disappointed! When the receptionist finally looked up at me, it was as if I was completely inconveniencing her. When she got up to give me the tour I was told very quickly, "don't think about asking for a private room, those are reserved for members only". The facility is like a funeral home. Every patient was in their bed, no activities were going on, and all nurses were standing around visiting. I immediately cancelled the request to place my mom there. I found a fabulous facility in Auburn, Sienna Care center. My my mom loves it. So unless your wealthy, you can expect to be treated poorly by Eskaton. read more

The care here is on par with other similar facilities in the area. Be very careful with the financial issues here. They charge a $100 late fee on incidentals billings. Seems like opportunistic and predatory fiscal behavior when dealing with the elderly. read more

My wife and I have lived at EVC for five and one-half years and we have honestly never once regretted our decision to move here. We came from the Bay Area and we had misgivings about leaving there for Sacramento but the warm and friendly reception we received from residents and staff erased those misgivings right away. There is so much do here on our beautiful 37 acre campus that is sometime hard to choose. The food is top class and our chefs continually come up with new and exciting menus. Our Executive Director, Greg Klick, and his staff are attentive to our every need and are constantly working to make our home better. However, the best thing is the people here at EVC. My 72 year old father stayed at Eskaton Village for 3 weeks to participate in physical and occupational therapy after breaking his back and suffering from other health conditions. Words cannot begin to describe what a wonderful experience we've had! The facility is aesthetically pleasing, clean and feels safe. The food is also good too (healthy and tasty). I can only speak for the staff in the Rehabilitation unit - they are simply AMAZING. Kiran, Jane, Sarah, Carol, Jackie, Emily and Viktoria just to name a few. They are professional, attentive, caring and genuinely concerned for their patients. They never seemed to mind when I asked them a zillion questions and they always contacted the facility Doctor when I had questions that they couldn't answer. The Doctor is wonderful too, very knowledgeable. I am blessed and forever grateful for the tender loving care that the staff and nurses provided to my father and our family.
