As I was walking down from Bernal Heights Park toward Mission, I was surprised to have come upon this 35-foot slide. How great for the neighborhood children, I said to myself silently. We went here and rode the slides!! The first time without cardboard and the second time with cardboard. Definitely recommend with, you go so much faster. I went so fast, I flew off the end! It was worth the injury that was inflicted and my son even got a perfect video of me including the fantastic landing. ;) read more

Hidden gem! I had the hardest time getting my kids to leave. We were here for 45 mins on a Saturday afternoon, and no other kids showed up, so not too crowded either. The view at the top of the slide is beautiful! read more

Cheap and easy fun. A must for any afternoon bouncing around the city. A dual, medal slide runs through a park between homes. What a great idea! Maybe not for the neighbors. Although I did see cardboard sleds best used at other, concrete, city slides, you do just fine racing your friends in what you have on. NOTE: denim slows you down. If you want to win, cotton pants baby! Weeeeeeeee Picnic table at the top for nosh between heats. Bring the children, your friends or the homeless guy at the bottom of the hill and enjoy your time here. I love that there's an opportunity for me to keep being a kid. read more

I wanted to post a new review because no one else had checked in recently and I wasn't sure if the slides were still there. They are as of December 2019 and are great fun! The area is nicely maintained, the slides are fast and smooth and there was plenty of cardboard laying around. We didn't end up needing it as the action on the slides was fine without. Weather/humidity can definitely factor in to the slide experience but we must have picked a good day. My kid tired himself out running up the stairs to do the slides over and over and over and over. We will definitely be back! read more

Came across these lovely slides while running up the stairs to Bernal Heights Park. Make sure you stop by the park if you're visiting these slides. It's not too far of a walk, and it yields AMAZING views! Wear something slippery on your bottom. Something stretchy will usually get the job done. Be careful, though... You have a pretty good chance of falling at the bottom if you fly off without preparing yourself! If you're scared, put your feet against the slide to slow yourself down. Oh, and no need for cardboard -- save those for the concrete slides! Other than the slides, there's not much more at this small park besides a sitting area up at the top. read more

My friend, Clayton A., was devastated with the destruction of the Seward Street Slides. His search for the next best thing brought us to the Bernal Heights Mini-Park Slides. This place consisted of two metal slides that are about 40 feet long...and they are FAST with cardboard! It's a little slower than the Seward St. slides...but fast enough to break you pretty little face if you're not careful with the landing. We didn't have any trouble with the neighbors like we did at Seward's...so that is a huge relief. But still be sure to respect the tenants around the area. read more

Always looking for cheap thrills and good, inner-child releasing fun, I stumbled upon a wonderful little hidden gem lurking up in the wilds of Bernal Heights--the Winfield Street Slides. I have sought out other slides, mostly of the cement variety on Seward Street in Diamond Heights (http://www.yelp.com/biz/seward-street-slides-san-francisco) and Codornices Park in Berkeley (http://www.yelp.com/biz/codornices-park-berkeley), but I think this pair of identical 'race tracks' top them both. Located in a terraced park next to a set of stairs, just down another set of stairs from Bernal Heights Park (http://www.yelp.com/biz/bernal-heights-hill-san-francisco), these two aluminum sheet slides zip you down the hill at good speed with no cardboard required! They are both identical chutes, so you can race friends down, if you'd like. The only reason I don't give it four stars is because the run-off at the end is pretty short. While it is bedded with rubber padding, it is rather short and should you get going too fast, you might have trouble stopping before tumbling over the edge and down the hill (ouch!). Also, since this is a quiet, residential neighborhood, be mindful of the residents respect their desire for peace and quiet. We didn't yell or scream and came in the middle of a Saturday. While there was no evil troll as there is with the Seward Street Slides (nor the copious amount of warnings), I'm sure that both will appear if us grown-up folks indulge our inner child with too much reckless disregard. read more

Awesome place to bring your kids but street parking is terrible get ready to hike to the park

While it was fun to find a little park in the middle of this residential area, the slides just didn't slide! Maybe it was because the air was moist, but neither myself or my boyfriend could get a good clean slide. We'll have to come back and try again when the weather is warmer. read more

What a pleasant surprise on my stroll to Bernal Heights Park! I suggest taking the stairs on Esmerelda street to get to these slides. They're really fun and great for kids AND ADULTS! There are two recycle bins, at the top and bottom of the slides, with cardboard pieces in them. You can sit on these to go down even faster! A bit of a warning though, the landing after the slide is a bit short so you may want to slow down at the end so you don't go shooting off into the bushes. read more

Perfect for a quick and unique jaunt. Then I'd suggest climbing Bernal hill, and enjoying the near-360 degree view! You don't need cardboard, just workable clothes. I feel this is truly a hidden gem of a spot. read more

As someone who lives next door to these slides, I can testify that the secret to swiftness is synthetic fabric. My husband once sat on a Nike running jacket and went down holding hands with our daughter. He built up such momentum he ended up dislocating his finger when he came off the end. To summarize: wear an all-Lycra ensemble and don't hold hands with anyone. read more

The Bernal Heights slides actually gave me one of the biggest mini little thrills that I've had in a while. It's been ages since, I have been down a slide, so I went down full speed all the way towards the end. Wow, that could of been the biggest little mistake I've had ever encountered because I nearly shot off and stumbled past the dirt landing area and on down the hill. Lucky, for me I made out like a gymnast and planted onto the ground after a few frantic steps after flying off the slide. Whew, quick body part check. All good. read more

I found this place 22 years ago when I first lived in San Francisco. I moved to a new neighborhood shortly after that, and forgot all about it. I am back in Bernal now and went exploring the massive hills of this quaint, quiet neighborhood. A little hard to find. These slides seem like a block long, but slow for me ... a review suggested cardboard, so I will have to try that. Being the speed demon that I am. It's a clean park to bring the kids and have some fun to get away for a while. The neighbors are nice, but respect their property. read more

Still under construction in August. There's cardboard and you can go down the slide, but since no one is maintaining it you don't slide so much as..."scoot". Could be fun once it's finished, the views of SF were great, but the hike up many stairs ended in disappointment. read more

How can you give anything less than 5 stars for something that is FREE and FUN?! Came here during an urban hike and the inner child in me could not wait to go down the slides! Lucky for me, I was already wearing my slick yoga pants, so I went FLYING down! As of now, there are two baby blue fleece rags for people to ride down. I love this little park. It was such a great surprise when I found it one morning on my walk back down to the Mission after going up to Bernal Hill. The area is kept clean and I like how it's hidden within the trees. I also love the little tended garden areas that the neighbors have adopted to make the space so pretty. read more

It's true about the type of clothing you're wearing and if you're unlucky to find a clean piece of cardboard (note to self: next time, bring our own) -- the slides just won't go that fast. Castro and slides? Who knew they could pair up so well together. I was browsing the internet looking for a touristy spot to check out in San Francisco and I came across Esmerelda Street Slides right in the middle of the Castro district. Though the parking is a complete disaster, once you are able to get to the slides you are going to have a boatload of fun. Please bring cardboard because it's going to make the experience THAT MUCH BETTER. The slide feels like a rollercoaster that brings back childhood memories. Once you hit the top and fall straight down the slope, you're going to scream like a little kid. I love this little gem in the middle of San Francisco because it makes this city so amazing! I agree with Allan M. Not Seward Street Slides but still fun to ride! There were cardboard pieces around so we used those to slide down and we went pretty fast! I appreciated the rubber mat at the bottom of the slide because I'm always afraid of busting my face when I jump off. So I like to think that it's pretty safe for kids. We only spent about 10-15 minutes there but it's long enough to bring the inner-child in someone back to life! read more

As of June 2016, the street slides were currently under construction. Also, at a glance the slides are not as long as they seemed online, so I wouldn't recommend going out of your way just to drive here. read more

If it's warm and sunny the slides are fast, but if it's foggy they're slow and damp cardboard won't help. To go really fast, wear polyester pants or bring a piece of polar fleece to sit on - you'll fly off the end! read more

While most of the reviewers give this place 4 or 5 stars, I think that's from an adult's perspective. It's just OK from a kid's standpoint. First off, on the sunny Sunday we went, we were the only people there and the slides can only hold your attention for so long. Plus they aren't even that fast -- our 5 y/o stopped about 3/4ths of the way down due to lack of speed. Because of that, the dearth of any other children to play with, and the fact that this park is mostly in the shade, meant that we left after about 5 minutes. read more
