Melanie is an amazing coach and mentor. Here is a little backstory... I was diagnosed with Neurological Lyme disease in 2016 after being misdiagnosed for many, many years. I was in pain; mentally, physically and financially. I was experiencing brain swelling which led to blurry vision, seizures, mood swings like a tilt-a-whirl and an inability to perform the simplest of tasks. I was depressed, angry and riddled with anxiety. After undergoing a very aggressive and painful treatment plan with little improvement I decided to focus on my healing from the inside. I became somewhat convinced that I had done all I could in every other area but I had yet to tackle the spirituality aspect. I have spent my life seeing therapists but felt stuck in my story. I wasn't making the progress to healing my body so desperately needed. With having just moved to Santa Cruz I didn't know anyone. The best deep massage I have ever gotten, hands down. I have been going to massage therapists for a few years and have recently moved to Santa Cruz and have not been able to find someone who I felt was really able to dig in and help loosen me up, until now. Melanie has great rapport building and communication skills and is a deft technician. The body work was awesome, at one point I am pretty sure I was drooling!! After a string of disappointing massages (they all felt like they were working out of a text book) I was ready to give up and accept the fact I would never get the massage I needed to fix some major tension/knots. Then by chance I found myself with an appointment with Melanie. FINALLY!!!! This was the massage I needed! She is able use enough pressure without hurting me or leaving me bruised. She is good about finding the spots that need to be worked out, and listening to what I need. The massages are never exactly the same, and NEVER seem like they are out of a textbook. I don't remember her ever being late or not at her office even once. She's always in a great mood and has turned into a really great friend over the years. I went to Melanie for a hypnotherapy session about a week ago after seeing her special on Living Social and her great reviews on Yelp. I'll admit I was little apprehensive, since I've never tried any kind of hypnosis before, and none of her reviews mentioned the hypnotherapy, but I decided I'd give it a shot. Well, I was NOT disappointed. Not only is Melanie warm & understanding, but the results from our session have been amazing. It's kind of creepy! Who knew the brain could be that powerfully transformed in an hour and a half? My roommate, who is getting her phD in Psychology, said, "Well, it's probably just the placebo effect." I said, "WHO CARES?? It's WORKING!" If I'm organized, waking up on time & happy early in the morning, cooking healthy food for myself and not craving sugar, and working out -- I don't care if it's because it "really worked" or because I just "believed it would work." Melanie deserves the five stars she has been given by so many reviewers! My wife and I had back to back massages. We had very different needs. She's 34 weeks pregnant and I'm just sore. But Melanie was able to provide each of us with exactly the massage that we needed. She makes sure to ask about how much pressure feels right and it was not simply at the beginning of the massage; she made sure to check in periodically and adjust pressure as I asked for different things for different parts of my body. Melanie is THE best massage therapist I've had in the 15 years of being a very picky massage junkie. I never write reviews and I'm even using my husbands yelp account because I don't have my own, but she is just sooooooo good and well worth it! I found her on yelp because I needed a prenatal massage when I was 7 months pregnant and I have now gone back 4 more times this pregnancy. She has the comfy belly and chest cradle that makes any pregnant women wish she could sleep at home on it. It allows for work to be done on the back in a comfortable position and her bed raises up in the upper body when you turn over so you can sit up a little and breathe better. She does amazing deep work that gets the knots and kinks out yet isn't painful where you are holding your breath the whole time. She is very knowledgeable about anatomy and the possible causes of pain and always works out any issues I have in the exact spot needed. Melanie is super sweet and has a lot of skill and I'm even planning on having her at my birth for massage and breathing help. I even recommended her to a pregnant friend of mine who is also picky about massage and she LOVED her too! My husband was having headaches because of stress and a kink in his neck and she was able to feel around and relieve his pain and he even fell asleep! He said that only happens when it's really good! He too has had a ton of massages and is very particular. It's rare you find someone who really knows what they're doing. read more

If you read my other reviews you will see that I'm certainly NOT afraid to speak on a business when they SUCK.. Melanie has good bedside manner and she is very skilled at really FIXING my broken down body. I am a very Large man and I require someone who has a lot of strength and know how. She is ALL OF THAT. When I first threw my back out I was in TREMENDOUS PAIN so I called my normal masseuse as well as most all others on yelp. Melanie was the only masseuse to return my call. My normal masseuse did return my call but she was 2 hours too late. She even rearranged her schedule to accommodate me and she didn't even know me.. Needless to say, I no longer see my old masseuse.
