I also cringe at the standard posed wedding photography and knew right off the bat that it would be a mission to find a wedding photographer that would be up for the challenge. So if you're like me, you may dread the thought of choosing a wedding photographer. It was by chance that I came across CMP's photographs while browsing on Pinterest. They immediately caught my eye; they were editorial, intimate and full of personality. Bottom line - stunning. Fortunately CMP had one photographer available for our date -- Danny. We lucked out because he is not only extremely talented in his craft, but also a total gem of a person. We met with Jocelyn Voo over Zoom before moving forward with working with her for our special day as our photographer and our witness. Jocelyn was absolutely outstanding for more reasons than one. Firstly, we felt that she really "GOT" us, from start to finish. She listened to our vision (dark, moody, candid, casual, gritty) and as wild as some of our ideas were, she totally leaned in and delivered exactly what we were looking for! Secondly, when you're eloping just the two of you, having a third person present is intimidating; what if it's awkward? What if the vibes are weird? But Jocelyn was an absolute joy to spend time with! I'd go so far as to say that her presence made the day even more special. She asked us about our love story, she joked around with us, and seemed genuinely interested in who we were as people. This also impacted the photos, as you can see how comfortable we are and how much fun we're having. Third, Jocelyn is an expert at her craft, although not pretentiously so. Her website offers so much guidance on how the elopement process works. Her emails with us gave us contacts for who to reach out to for certain steps (We took pictures in the lobby of the Beekman and had to have permission granted; something we certainly wouldn't have known!) Not only did we consider Jocelyn our photographer, but our guide in the process of eloping. She also is an expert in that her photo-taking does not appear obvious! I was worried about having professional pictures taken of me in public, but onlookers barely noticed as Jocelyn very naturally pulled her camera out and snapped pictures. Our wedding was a relatively last-minute City Hall affair. Liesl gave us ideas on how to best photograph it, and also knew some pretty helpful tips that made the day go much smoother than it would otherwise. We didn't have to think much -- she knew what style we were going for, and what we wanted for the day, and made it all happen. I've been to weddings that feel more like a photoshoot than anything intimate, and it's one of my bigger pet peeves. Liesl didn't make it feel like that. She was unobtrusive, but still captured great moments to always remember our day. And my family loved her -- she was super kind to everyone, and made them feel relaxed and comfortable. Even more than the photos, that was really important to us. After our nuptials, we dragged Liesl around NYC for more photos with just my wife and me. She knew the area around City Hall really well, and got some stunning photos the incorporated the downtown architecture. After that, photographed us on the subway and at Grand Central. We're still blown away by the photos she took. In short, you won't be disappointed. After speaking w/ vendors from all over the country (Seattle to Kansas, LA to BK), we decided on Photo Pink for numerous reasons. 1: we had a carnival theme and the hubs and I have a very certain, somewhat off-the-normal path of what we were trying to portray to our guests. 2: the hubs is a musician w/ an inclination towards the more left-winged approach to humor and that also needed to be expressed. 3: we had a total DIY wedding and I NEEDED someone that could respect and capture all of that 4: once we met w/ Liesl and Randy, we were immediately put at ease -- they didn't seem like they wanted to nickel and dime us.; they told us that we get ALL of our photos and on a CD; they were open to a themed photo shoot, with props and all, and didn't look at us cross-eyed when it was mentioned. In addition, throughout the process, Megan (their office manager) ALWAYS responded in a timely fashion. And all the while, she happily answered ALL of my e-mails (from costume questions, to lighting questions, to crazy large photo requests) w/ respect and courteousness. End result: well we haven't gotten our actual wedding photographs yet since we JUST got married a little over a week ago, but our engagement photos were nothing short of amazing!!! Every single person that saw our photos raved about them nonstop. And for those that met Liesl, they were instantly in love w/ her ease and laid-back personality as well.
