Stations are 100% accessible and have fare-card vending machines that allow payment by both cash and credit card. Tren Urbano currently (2010) runs along a single line with 16 stations and offers connections to other modes of transportation (buses, water ferry, taxi, etc.). The system is one part of Alternativa de Transporte Integrado (english: Integrated Transportation Alternative) or "ATI". The rolling stock is clean, climate controlled, and security is noticeable throughout the entire system. Announcements at station platforms and on the trains themselves are announced in both Spanish and English.

The worst part is probably just sitting in that crap little area in San Juan waiting to get the bus back as there's no real time table you just wait and hope the driver comes out eventually. I loved listening and trying to learn more spanish from the locals riding with me. It's also a great way to see various neighborhoods including residential ones tourists really don't get to much. Ironically enough the only person that got a bit upset with my crap spanish was an older lady that I asked about when the next bus was. She exlaimed to her friend "tourista!" and I go "claro, soy turista, cuando piensa el proxima bus!". She told me, but was shaking her head. Oh well, grumpy old lady aside the trips were fine.

Very appreciative of that!! On to the experience! My guide, Tom, arrived right on time and picked me up in front of my hotel. He kindly provided me with cold water and a helmet for the ride. From there, we spent the next hour and a half perusing the streets of Old San Juan in a stylish sidecar! (So much better than sitting in a cramped, sweaty van with 15/20+ others!‍) You get to cruise the cobblestone streets with the open air/breeze in your face feeling, as well as getting unobstructed, 360 degree views- it is AMAZING! There were many historic sights to see, along the way. Tom was very knowledgeable about the history and culture of Puerto Rico- I learned quite a bit in just an hour and a half! As we zipped around Old San Juan, Tom also pointed out some cool local eateries to check out, as well as places to shop. When you reach some of the destinations, you're able to jump out, take some photos and enjoy the views. I highly recommend PR Sidecars! Once on site, we had a few minutes in the Margarita Bar to take a bathroom break, grab water or snack, etc. Then we went to another area to get our gear put on and then headed to the first line. Before getting started one of the guides gave instructions on what not to do with the gear, how to hold on and how to pull yourself in if you don't make it all of the way to the next platform. Next the adventure began. I don't recall the description saying that there were open-slated wooden bridges to cross or slightly steep and possibly slippery hills to climb. I can say that my nerves, glutes and hamstrings got an intense workout. lol. The last line ends back at the Margarita Bar, perfect for if you need a shot after. The guides help you get all of the gear off. The views were great, and I really did enjoy myself. I made it across successfully on all 5 lines. It was more work than I bargained for but I'm glad that I went and would consider doing it again. All of the tour guides assisting us were great and everyone in our tour survived the experience.

We saw different sights like the Antiguo Prision de la Princessa, the Paseo de la Princesa, Fuente Raices, Paseo de Los Presidentes, Castillo San Felipe Del Morro and many other sights. The driver did Mariza did a great job getting to the places we visited safely and timely. She did a great job navigating those streets and getting us as close to the places as possible so that we would not have to walk much. Our tour guide Aponte was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. He made the tour even more interesting than it already was. Great tour! We met the boat crew around 545pm as the ride starts at 6 and goes 90min. We paid $257 for 2 adults and 1 teenager. We left on time and the crew was great. They provide you a snack plate of grapes. Turkey sandwich wrap, baby bell cheese and pretzels. You also get water, soda or beer free as part of the tour. You get to see old San Juan, irs bldg, morrow castle, governors home, along with other sites. The crew of 3 has a captain, first mate and tour guide. The play music in between sites and bring the tour group into conversations on history, where they are from snd if they are celebrating anything.
