I stated that budget was most important to me and would make or break if I were to receive certain care. My root canal procedure had to be done by a specialist at another practice which went well. After my appointment I called Summit Dental back to get a quote for the crown and set up my appointment. The gentleman told me the cost would be over $1,000 which I stated on the phone I will need to use Care Credit for that high of an amount. He said "Oh, yeah, okay." When I came in for my appointment the dental assistant taking care of me had me fill out some paperwork at the beginning of my appointment and had asked what form of payment I would be using in which I said Care Credit and she said "Okay". It wasn't until two hours later after they did most of my dental work and while I was waiting for the crown to be made that she took my card and that's when the front desk told me they don't accept Care Credit anymore. When I told them I said multiple times before my appointment started that was the form of payment I was using and no one told me that, they just said "Oh, well sorry". They refused to work with me on another option like a payment plan so I had to figure out another form of payment right then or else they wouldn't finish me crown installation which at that point was a matter of five minutes to glue it on. It felt very deceptive that they would wait until the procedure was 95% done to tell me they didn't take Care Credit even though I disclosed that was what I was going to use before and the lack of compassion and consideration to work with me on another option at that point is why I will not be returning or recommending Summit Family Dental.

But he died, and when I went for my next appointment, I had his partner Scott Hodas. Hodas talked me into having my dentures relined, even though they fit well. He said they had to be relined every so many years and I was overdue. So I agreed to let him reline my dentures. BIG MISTAKE. Since the reline, I have to use denture adhesive twice a day, and my upper plate is not snug. I often find it difficult to talk. When I went for my six month cleaning, I wanted to talk to Dr. Hodas about this. He looked at the denture adhesive I brought along and said that's what the adhesive is for.

Their cleanings are gentle, they've done same-day fillings and an extraction if needed for me and otherwise are just great. Anyway, went in today for my first cleaning since COVID-19 breakout. I have to say I was VERY impressed with their process and precautions. You wait in your car when you arrive for your appointment, call them to let them know you're there. They call you to come in, mask required, they do a temperature check and ask you to use their fancy hand sanitizer before you proceed to the exam room. They have a plexiglass divider hanging at the checkout station, and all employees wore masks and the hygienist & doc wore face shields as well. They did a great job keeping you away from other patients and it was very efficient considering. Highly recommend if you're nervous about a COVID-19 cleaning or other dental work.

It was clear that I was in competent and caring hands to get my dental health on the right track. So far, I've had a dental cleaning and some gum treatment along with the new X-Rays and 3D scans of my teeth. My dental hygienist Tayjay has done a great job and Dr. Gustafson was very friendly and helped map out the next steps in my treatment plan which will include teeth whitening and new composite fillings. I had called around other dentists in the area and one well renown place wanted me to pay upfront for new X-Rays before they could even meet with me which was VERY off-putting and GM couldn't have been more different - they were welcoming, took a look under the hood before suggesting treatment plans, were transparent with pricing, and walked me through different payment options. Instead of my usual assistant, I was greeted by a different dental assistant, Mrs. Rose. From the moment she walked in, she radiated warmth, kindness, and genuine care. She was the sweetest person and made me feel comfortable, even though I had come in feeling down about my dental problems. I just saw the bill, they billed an emergency exam (this is done if you go in with a tooth ache) and did a scaling and root planing, wich is a type of perio surgery/procedure. It should have been a new patient exam. Possible a debriment since it had been 5 years and see how the patient responds. I was in the dental managment industry for over 25 years, and this kind of crap is why I left. Not to mention there was no fee/copay disclosure before starting treatment. I will be putting in a formal complaint with Delta Dental. I did call and was told they did everything correct.

She checked my mouth briefly and sent a request for approval from my insurance company. Since seeing her I went to two other dentists and found out a denture would not hold for 5 minutes in my mouth because I have so much bone loss there is nothing for a denture to hold onto. I have to have a bone graft before a denture would stay in my mouth. Chalasini said nothing about this, received approval from my insurance company, and if I hadn't had two other opinions would have gone ahead, losing over half my annual dental insurance "budget", and the denture would be sitting in a drawer somewhere, certainly not in my mouth. Check to see her overbilling and find another dentist for even the most basic things. Thankfully I sensed something was wrong with this office, and I was right. This office is a nightmare.
